i got my love of animals from my dad
he was a hs biology teacher
and we would watch animal docoumentaries on tv together, and also basketball. that was our thing after school/work
and he would tell me, he was a really good story teller, when i was a kid he would ask me what animals i wanted in da story
and he would make up a story on the spot and it was so awesome. any animal i wanted.
soo good bros.

You rarely see this in pics but Hyraxes are fucking masters of rock-crack parkour. Not only can they run up very smooth surfaces with their weird little suction-cup feet, but they can also wedge themselves sideways in cracks and move with remarkable ease.

An adult hyrax is known as a "fluff brisket". Juveniles are "squeaks".

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY IMPOSTORS such as rodents from the genus Petromus, they are easily distinguished due to their tails.

I went to wikipedia to read about more fun hyrax facts and instead found out about their extraordinary poop. A group of hyraxes will use the same spot to poop over literal millenia, leading to giant fossilized dung heaps. That grey rock in the picture is one of them. They're useful for archeobotany and are apparently prized by the perfume industry for their strong musky smell.

Their whiskers are interesting. The traditional ones on the nose are not as big as those on a chinchilla, but the ones on their eyes are huge. They also appear to have some on their chins.

Why should I believe they're related to elephants

I need real solid proof of this
>>
>>5095127
They are really good friends.
>>
>>
>>5094376
most animals with whiskers have them on their chins, they're just smaller than the others. look at a cat some time, they have little whiskers on their chins
the whiskers are there to help the animal navigate when it can't see well so it needs to be able to sense the terrain all the way around its head
>>
>>5095127
their tusks are their incisors like elephants and unlike all other tusked mammals

>>
>>5095224
>look at a cat some time, they have little whiskers on their chins
Sure, they're just much smaller and less dramatic in appearance. IIRC cats also have whiskers on their legs, which is rather neat.
