Fuck, believe it or not, normal dogs do not bark 24/7 unless they have been abused. shiba inu, akita, native russian husky, basenji, these are normal dogs that have not been fucked by western breeders selecting for using dogs for fucking sports. Their behavior is how dogs act by default without 100 genetic and mental disorders inbred into them. They don't bark 24/7. They yip and scream when they are frightened and have a much higher threshhold for alarm barking (ie: a stranger at the door, not on the other side of the street).

I grew up with Basenjis and they were good, you have to be careful with small animals around them though because they can instinctively go into a hunting mode. Some jackass left a days old stray mutt outside once and we took it in, and when we introduced her to the basenjis they immediately formed up around her which was pretty funny since they had all been pretty lazy dogs, had to pull her away and socialize them slowly over the next few weeks. They got along great in the end, but it'll always make me laugh remembering just how quickly the Basenjis base instincts activated. That said, I don't recall them being particularly territorial or poorly behaved but if they didn't want to play, they didn't want to play. They are pretty strong willed, as you said. Good dogs though, if I were going to get another it would be another Basenji

There are genuinely some good dogs in shelters though. A lot of retards get a puppy and then when the puppy stops being cute but is still crazy they will just surrender them to shelters because at the end of the day they treat dogs like accessories rather than living beings.

The problem is that dogs like this are vastly outnumbered by pitbulls and pitbull mixes. We just need to euthanize all the pitbulls and go from there.
