What is this thing useful for? It was invented 12y ago: where is it being used, and for what? I can see why Bitcoin has value, but I can’t find a single real world use for picrel. I just see a massive, huge digital bubble.

If it stayed as being POW, it would be considered as being BTC but with smart contract functionality. The fact that it was changed to be POS makes it just another L1 and changing it to be so has been quite possibly the dumbest move made in the entire space bar none.

To put it very simply, POS makes eth tokens like a stock that can be inflated at will where as POW made eth tokens more like a commodity that reflected the underlying demand for the network (that was not easily inflated in number as work/computation was required to do so).
