Not to be rude, but how does one end up like this? Being 35+, posting anime girls on 4chan. Is this just a habit that (You) picked up back in, let's say, 2005 and it stucks with you ever since? Do (You) have a normie-tier life in the meantime, or are (You) a wizard?

Well, some hobbies seem to be thing you do as a 20+ lonely man, but are forced to abandon for "not having time for this". Kind of like guys who played vidya back in 90s seldom do now.

It’s a bit of a double-edged sword, anon. I’m 29 now, but I’ve been on 4chan since I was like 11 or 12 back in 2008–09. The internet culture I grew up with is basically gone, and most of the people from back then either drifted off to tiny imageboards that get maybe four posts on a good day, or just disappeared entirely. A lot of us were using the internet to cope because we didn’t really fit in IRL. Sure, you always had the black nerdy guys trolling on /sp/ having a blast, but they were definitely the minority.
The funny thing is, even I felt like I missed out. I thought I was late to the party and had missed the legendary 2003–2007 era. Looking back, though, I think I still caught 4chan at its best, even if I wasn’t around for some of the classic 2006 chaos. I watched /r9k/ morph into a monster, vanish, and then get resurrected for the detriment of humanity.
Honestly, the best thing you can do these days is find a woman before AI turns the whole internet into a ghost town. If it weren’t for the internet, I’d probably be alone without kids, my wife’s from a remote country in Asia, and I never would’ve met her otherwise without the internet. The best time to do something is always yesterday but the 2nd best time is now.

what do you think changed the most about the internet? every time i look at old archives it feels like everything just got worse. people seemed more united back then since they were all escaping reality like you said, but i can’t really say much since i didn’t experience that era myself.
sometimes i wish i was born in 90s japan and got to live through 2000s otaku culture. posting on 2ch and watching random niconico videos, watching endless CGDCT anime and reading touhou doujins. i mean, i can still do most of that now (except 2ch), but the community just isn't same at all.
even though loneliness hits me, i honestly don’t think i want a wife or a family. if i had a wife i’d probably treat her more like a really close friend. i have zero relationship experience, so it’s confusing. i need to think more about this serious life stuff.
for now i guess i can survive in a world with only anonymous and other internet friends, but i don’t know. it sounds kinda pathetic. but i’ve already accepted being pathetic. if i hadn’t, i wouldn’t be rotting at home all day during my free time.

Not who youre replying to but the internet died when every idiot with a smart phone could access it. Back when I was young and posting here (2004 - 2009) it was a lot slower but the community was much more real. Being on MySpace was still considered new and trendy. Being on 4chan was basically unheard of. That cultivated a real sense of belonging that doesn't exist anymore.
I think thats one of the biggest problems for most people now, regardless of who or what they are. No one feels like they belong anywhere. Everyone is seeking their place and many aren't finding anything because the world right now is in general turmoil
But seriously don't get too excited. Even back then everyone here still felt like a loser and the memes were not even that funny half the time

Maybe it's a sign to stop it with escapism. If there's any lesson to be learned here, it's that reality always comes back to haunt you.
The way things are was always predestined. Even in the 90s, everybody said the Internet was "going to be the future." But no one on 4chan listened, you all thought that you could continue to spend all your days forgetting the outside world on the Internet, thinking this was your private little haven... But the internet is so much fun, and so convenient, isn't it ? So, why WOULDN'T everyone start using it ?
You're the only ones that suffer such consequences, because for everyone that already had a life, back in the day, 2000s internet represents, yes, some nostalgia of younger days, but otherwise, not much else. This idea that the internet 'died' and that you 'wish you were born etc. etc;' that you 'don't belong anywhere anymore' is only caused by the flawed way you all used it in the first place. It's karma.

sorry for the late reply, hope you had a merry xmas and a happy new year.
>regardless of who or what they are. No one feels like they belong anywhere. Everyone is seeking their place and many aren't finding anything because the world right now is in general turmoil
i really notice that everywhere seems to be the same nowadays. older people describe the old internet in a very unique way, each site had a very unique culture. now all sites have the same users, the same type of posts, the same opinions, the same discussions, etc.
everything today is a repost of things from other sites, it’s pretty tiresome.
the aspect that irritates me the most is political issues. no matter where you are, they always find a way to insert themselves into some topic. political issues on the internet are like parasites. it honestly disgusts me, no matter the side.
>Even back then everyone here still felt like a loser and the memes were not even that funny half the time
from what I see, at least the sense of community in the past seemed to be stronger, and to be fair most memes nowadays aren’t very funny either lol
thanks for the response, and I apologize for the late reply.

Am I the only one who feels 2008-2012 is underlooked in terms of not only anime art, but Internet culture as a whole?
Like all of the trance videos with futuristic anime art on them seems forgotten in today's world.

Smartphones and increased accessibility to the Internet have done irreparable damage to online communities. Ironically, the real world has become the new Internet.

I did stop playing video games, but cute anime style characters is a personal favourite aesthetic of mine and I don’t think you grow out of that. It would be like saying someone grew out of rustic decor in houses or they outgrew liking hydrangeas. The thing you think is pretty is part of your long term inner self.
