5 months of the old thread and not much has happened.
Summer cons have been and gone and once again everything is fundamentally different. I don’t think we’ll
Go back to pre lockdown glory.
Ho hum.
Theres a few more bits and pieces before con season is over but I cba looking them up this time.

Ok, guess I can post cons. As per usual, stolen from first Google result. Thread does not endorse any event, do your own research etc. if you know of more, especially more traditional cons rather than modernised trade shows and what not then stick em in the thread.

It checks out, it's on their company website. I think it's a con about selling designer stuff. No idea why they would combine it with anime, I guess it's a loose crossover with anime and stuff. I don't even know what designer means in this case

From their website
>DesignerCon is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys, customs, plush, designer apparel and so much more with urban, underground and pop art! We are a celebration of all aspects from the world of design.

As insanely late as it is, this board's got a small pool of posters and crazier things have happened so I'm putting this out there: if you posted this and there are any good cons happening next summer (i.e. when Oasis are playing Wembley, Heaton Park or hell, even both) yes I am around and open

Finally finished Stocking's sword. Had wanted it done for Animecon back in June but was busy with some IRL stuff.
If you're at Liverpool Comicon in november and see me, come say hi!

Nothing's going back to pre-lockdown glory for the foreseeable.
Don't recall many anime conventions during the dark ages innit.

It really isn't helping that a typical con costs as much as going on an actual holiday these days.
I'm only really bothered about going to whichever MCM is closest and if I make an effort to go to a con I'd rather go somewhere in europe, at least I can take a few extra days either side to see somewhere nice and new rather than fucking London or Birmingham.

So true, xister. I heard two weeks ago that in two more weeks, comes the announcement for two more weeks. We'll be able to say then that, well and truly, definitively, unquestionably, demonstrably: IT'S OVER

>weekend ticket is £70-£100 now
>hotels are extremely expensive across the board
>train strikes every now and again making travel annoying
>petrol is expensive too
>most cons don't even bother to get guests any more, just MCM, MegaCon, and whatever that Final Fantasy fan-run convention is (not Fanfest)
>cons only give out "creator" passes to people who will shill them the hardest on social media rather than actual creators
take me back to 2009 please

so that was fun
>drive down to MCM london nice and early
>get off at the wrong exit on royal albert way bcuz im a tard but ended up in my favour
>half way to the car park stopped by security and asked if i'd booked parking
>"uh....no?"
>sorry mate all 750 spaces are fully booked you'll have to park in the premier inn
what the fuck? every MCM london i've been to, on the sunday i've rolled up around 9:20 and had my pick of most of the car park, what was that all about?

It seemed better than average for hotel con organisation! Had a good time here but skipped the awkward ceremonies and just did panels and parties and the talent show with friends (which was suprisingly good) Didn’t go back up on Saturday after they kicked everyone out of the main hall but the DJ sets were good even with some cringe on the dancefloor
The hotel was less shit than last time but I got one drink at the bar and now I have no money :) :) :)

I had fun. But I havnt been in years. Different atmosphere certainly, but it’s chill. Better with friends, but the campsite aspect and bbq, fires etc make meeting people easier as it’s a much smaller event.

Are there any still active residential/social round-the-clock cons (like Koko, Kita, Ame, Hotaru) that do on-site sleeping bag accommodation? Whether having some of the rooms dedicated to it, a sports hall turned into a camping zone or just tacit approval for people to crash in random places?

And yet there are no UK cons that do it. What point are you trying to make? The closest you'll get is uni accom rooms but that's not what you're looking for. Unless you count Tokonatsu since that is tents/sleeping bags in a field.

I havent been in an AL cesspit con since like 2019 and it's INSANE how packed it was, like holy shit, I went there expecting a dead af con to just introduce my GF to something kinda quiet for her first con but godamn it was full of pre much every age bracket 16-45 it had to be minimum double of what it used to be back then.
Now, was it good? I mean, no, it was just insanely overpriced shit and a really crappy stage and events(even worse than before) and mostly just people hanging out so, exactly the same as every fucking UK con.
Go to the US or europe for a good hotel one.

What happened at Custom House station? Was travelling to meet friends tonight (staying a few stops away from Excel this year) and everything after Royal Victoria was cancelled due to "a serious incident at Custom House for Excel" and they were bringing out the shuttle buses. Seemed to kick off about 9:30 ish.

peaks between 12 and 1 but it seems to empty out quite quick. Sunday was fun, glad i booked parking. stalls were pretty trash (you guys wanna buy some swords? good news) but artist alley was decent and it felt a bit better laid out.
>>
>>10952870
yeah i went on saturday (it was my first ever con) and i was overall disapointed by the stalls however i did enjoy my time and i think ill go next year just for the fact that its nice to be around my fellow losers
>>
>>10952876
I ended up just driving home, friday and saturday were fun though. I've only ever been to small cons before so it was quite the experience.

Only time I've went to HyperJapan was in 2017, though, it was a blast; from what I can remember, there were definitely cosplayers, and the food was great. Going there for the 2nd time this year since it was pretty nostalgic.

It's hard work for fan cons to complete against commercial mass market events with day tickets. Even if most of them are Large dealer rooms with event tacked on the side, it seems that's what most of the gen-pop want.

I did MCM back in May. It was fine, but one of my friends ended up fucking ruining it for me and my other friend.
DESU, will probably just stick to local cons and such, the cost was just not worth it for how little there was to actually do.
>>
>>
>>10958314
Nothing decent to do. Don't care about VAs/actors/streamers, don't buy merch, videogames are done on small LCDs, watching anime is done at home on a bigger TV and I get to choose the content, don't play TCG nor TTRPG, talks can be watched online, don't care about stage events, don't do karaoke, don't party because I don't drink nor want to age my eardrums, it's all underage, uglies and fats so nothing to try getting a shag out of.

Anyone up north going to zogg halloween ball?
I wanted to try win the comp this year but I think I've left it a little too late since i've been sick af for the past month and theres always some cospros that show up and win.
>>
>>10962021
Me. Enjoyed it but underwhelming compared to their other events. Felt like a small local con with Megacon branding slapped on it. Higher proportion of normie families with young kids compared to most cons. Free parking. The public transport links suck but they provided a shuttle bus.
They're running it again next year. I don't see how this is going to be profitable.
Which of you idiots went to MCM London? I did. Good weekend, fairly standard MCM.

I was there on Sunday! It was my first time cosplaying, too,
but it admittedly looked retarded due to being an OC made in literally 2 days
. I even got an autograph from Mona Marshall, who I was pretty damn surprised to meet.

Aw, thanks. One gripe I had was that the armor pieces were a bit stocky. Regardless, I did enjoy the process of making the costume, and I'd happily try cosplaying as a canon character (I had Neo Metal Sonic in mind) even without a con to go to.
