Anyone here going? I'm a local so I'm definitely going but national harbor is a 50 minute drive or a 2 hour train ride for me. Not sure what I wanna do. I heard parking is too expensive and that most if not all hotels and airbnb's are sold out

The new system requires you to declare your party number and select a leader. So a group of 4 would instead be represented by 1 person, rather than 4 people trying to book a room for their group in the old free-for-all queue. Supposedly this way is more "fair" but I never failed to book in the Gaylord with the previous system, now I'm on the other side of the river reeeee
>>
>>10963237
That's fucked. Luckily my friends and I found a house in temple hills but it'll still be like 15 minutes from the airbnb to the venue. Sucks ass but I've also seen people online complain about the new system. Thats a really dumb way of doing things. Not sure what they were thinking with that

It's my first time at magfest. im going with a few friends but im really interested in the jam sessions. I've been playing bass for a year now so I'm going to be trying that out but what were your favorite things to do at previous magfests? The only other convention I've been to was otakon earlier this year which i loved.

I went this past February and had a good time, but can't go next year due to IRL reasons unrelated to whatever they did to the lottery system this time around.
One thing I want to emphasize for the non-locals is that I was strongly advised against flying into Reagan airport anymore, mainly due to the accident with the helicopter that happened around the time of MAGFest and that not much has been done to avoid such accidents at that airport in the future. My plan for next time is to fly in at Baltimore and then drive to wherever I'm staying for the con from there, dunno how well that's gonna work out though.

>what were your favorite things to do at previous magfests?
The one I went to this year was my first MAGFest so I don't know if a sample size of one is good enough for you, but I thought it was my best con experience ever after over a decade of going to things like these, which is strange because I consider myself an anime guy more than a video game guy. I thought the shows were really good and going to them was my favorite part of the con; I didn't really pay attention to the lineup before I went, but after getting to the con I was pleasantly surprised to find that several acts I follow online were playing live shows there. The thing I liked the most was how all-encompassing the convention was towards the concepts of music and games; if you like either thing it's very hard to not find something at this convention that you'd be into. One of the panels was about video games from the 70's when each game had a unique circuit board, to give an example of the scope of the con when it comes to vidya.

I saw a lot of thot influencers denouncing katsu after the water leaking in artist alley and saying they were going to do magfest instead despite it being the same venue. I don't know if it was just virtue signaling for clout or if there's any real intent but it was a sentiment I saw echoed right after the pipes hurting videos started going around

I should have known, early this year was a cluster fuck with it selling out like 2 weeks before which was abnormal.
So many scalpers and scammers made money from the shock that it was only going to get worse the next year.
2 months is a long while though, there will be chances to do a transfer.

Bought my tickets on a (moderately) drunken whim last Friday, and it looks like I managed just in time. Now, I just have to figure out everything else about the con. I believe I have some buds with a room somewhere close, but driving in 1hr each day isn't too bad if it comes to it. I just gotta figure out what I'm goin to cosplay as.
Either way, I'll have a car close by if any gulls need emergency rides or something.

I'll be in a pre-bought at least one of the days. Not sure if I'll wear it for the other days, or if I'll just go in closet cosplay or street clothes for the other days. The funny thing is that I know my boss also bought a badge, so there is a chance of me running across him while I'm dressed as an anime twink. Only time will tell how that turns out

They may not be an official guest anymore but is likely to still be attending on mag's dime. I'd imagine this literal who vtuber is just another nepo-guest along side what most of the shit programming that gets accepted. Just know someone high enough in staff and you'll get taken care of. Am I allowed to bring a lunch into magfest? I am going to be tripping on acid and I'll need food and don't want to pay every day. Also want to carry a water bottle but I don't know if there are rules against bringing in liquid. Like if I came with a water bottle would I have to dump it before coming in or is it fine to have it pre filled?

Thanks good to know. What do they sell at magfest as in merchandise wise? Last year at otakon i was able to buy enough cosplay stuff to make a whole outfit for around 100. Would that be possible at magfest or is it all video game related things?
>>
>>10966232
The merch hall is like a combo artist alley/dealer’s room all in one. Mostly video game/board game/ttrpg stuff but a little anime. Not a lot of cosplay. Highly rec downloading the Guidebook (app). There’s a list of all the programming and merchants there.

Kingdom hearts and neo twewy. I got my friend a lotr cosplay and a Zelda one. So I might go to one of those if I'm not busy jamming. I just now made my schedule and as a first timer, I did not know they had events going 24 hours. Not to be a jerk but this is literally what everyone (who didn't get a room of course, nobody with a room would complain because they are happy) says. Last year me and my party (group of 5) had to do Alexandria. My group of 4 this year got bumpkis in the lotto, but our other friend and group of 4 got a suite so we're all rooming together.
Statistically because MAGfest sold less tickets as the cap was smaller you would think it'd be easier to get a Gaylord, but everyone who gives more of a shit, ergo the ones gunning for a Gaylord room, would have made it to have been bought in time for the lotto, and those same people would have been attending the live lottos of yesteryear had they done it this year. Think of it like this; the first wave of hotel rooms came and went, and yet I heard next to nothing about some choosing not to get the room they pulled so it could be available for wave 2. Because of the party system, you don't really have Mem X and Mem Y both pulling a room and for them both to book it, Y's for "safekeeping", harshly cutting down on the redundancy and excess. I have no numbers or figures but on paper this seems to be the most respectful way to do it, with an exception being
>we have 5 in the group but could only put down 4, so 1 guy has an extra slot in the lottery alone like a side bet
I would really want to see the numbers because they made it sound like a group's odds for a Gaylord is higher than the sum of the same number of individuals.
There is just so many people that you won't always get good odds with the Gaylord. It often requires heavy networking, but ironically if you have a crew you go up with like me you can't just be duplicitous and ditch to go with the best deal every time.

You are safe everywhere EXCEPT the concert hall. There are lots of tables and chairs in the atrium (first come) around the shops, and a few tables inside the con area but you can never tell if someone official has that table or its just open.

They'll tell you to leave it outside the concert hall but you'll be good everywhere else. I mean of course be courteous in places like the museum or game/LAN rooms, but nobody gives you shit for sipping. In fact I say the opaque container is best for some alcohol stealthing. Friend of mine legit does that with a child's sipping cup, she finds it cute. Of course if you're trying to bring alcohol nothing beats a flask, that you can easily sneak in the cocnert hall. Me and my friends just take the Gatorade or water bottles and mix potions yo stuff in our coats like taking outside popcorn into a movie theater.

>How cosplay heavy is this con
In my experience it's about mid-tier. It's a nerd vidya and music con first and foremost.
You'll get some good cosplays but they'll be drowned out by the sheer number of balding middle aged troons.
Don't get me wrong, Magfest is one of the best cons in terms of what it brings for entertainment. But in terms of con-goers? Expect a lot of gross people obscuring your view. If you want to look at model hot tits go to Katsu next month

Doesnt help that set A sometimes goes 5-20 minutes late, so the same time setting up the next act and then the act itself are now offset by that amount, which then further snowballs as each act like want encore time or need more setup time themselves.

Katsucon, because "Passing trannies" enjoy being around attractive women while living failures do not.
That's at least my take on it. I mean Katsu doesn't do anything particular against them so why wouldn't they go?
Could it be the draw of attractive model women due to the costume scholarship offers offends them?

It was quite the scene really. The LAN party had too many people watching the game and put a lot of money on the Bears. No one left despite the Bears losing in the 1st half but in the 2nd half more people showed and we're going insane when the Bears came back to win it. Tonight was very special at that LAN party when everyone enjoyed themselves.

I went, last one I went to was 2020, this one seemed kind of meh overall. Also, security is just moving all over the place constantly.

This was my first. I definitely would say there were lots of trans women. Sucks that the good looking ones are always taken. I got some action from a hot bitch so I do think it's just about timing and maybe how you look. Another girl randomly gave me her number cause we were dancing to a guy DJing to DK together. This was at 3 or 4am today though so I think you just gotta stay up very late one night and either be fucked up so you can easily talk to people. Or if you're naturally good with people walk up and talk to drunk ppl to be their friend

People picking up women and having sex at my convention? I think I'm going to be sick...
Now that I think about it, I don't believe I talked with a single woman the entire time I was there. Well, I did show the girl playing the SDVX booth next to me how to skip the matchmaking timer, but she just seemed afraid of me and only said "thanks," so I don't know if I should count that.

I got rejected by a fat chick so it could be worse.
In all seriousness though her drunk as fuck friend calling her over right after she was "crashing out" with a man he claimed to be out of her league was probably embarrassing.
I lost interest the moment I saw her but played along, she dipped like a minute after meeting. I'm not good at masking a lack of interest so that was probably it.
Or maybe I am just that cooked; least the drunk guy complemented my hair.

Bubbles she had pig tails. I am so fucking pissed I didnt make any sort of move. Next year I'm not hesitating. I think i was too caught up in the moment because she was really pretty with a fat ass. I've seen that before, but last year. Jacked black guy in a bucket hat with a brief case always standing a distance from some slutty cosplayer with her ample cleave on display. She would frequently talk with him but very briefly as if it was a checkup thing. It didn't come off like they were in a relationship, considering aside from that she was constantly talking to other men.
Now there was a ZZZ cosplayer stepping on people for money last night at the Gazebo but the black guy was just a DJ and part of her friend group.

>>10966894
Maybe 2015/6. Every convention and nerd hobby has had this and similar representation crowds start drumming up. On paper there's no reason why you wouldn't be positivly receptive, its just thay when it becomes a dominant focal point it starts becoming distracting. GDC I hear has been especially affected like this. I have no issues with queer panels or even game jams for trannies (trannie jam?) but at some point the focus seems to become coopted, not just shifted, and you're treated as a biggot for finding any of it an ounce annoying or distracting.

>>
>>10966914

First time I've gone since covid, shocking to see how much the trannie virus has spread. I read about this shit all the time here, but I assumed it had to be at least a little exaggerated. It's not. I lost count of the number of guys in drag too, super fucked up. I don't even want to know what percentage of that crowd was "just" gay. There was some absurdly degenerate shit in the marketplace. Bring back the mental institutions.
No performance from anyone who worked on the mega man series was also shocking considering this year's theme. The theme should have been deltatroon instead.
There's no way I'm wasting that kind of money again. I feel bad for the traditional nerds who put together impressive cosplays, and for the unwitting families who bring a kid there.

My loadout to conventions these days. With my camera around my neck, I can fit everything else in the camera bag. Sure, I miss carrying a full bottle with me around, but a flask sure is convenient

>Going Alone at these things isn't a problem unless you're socially moronic
Fuck, even if you're socially moronic, going alone to conventions isn't a death sentence. There aren't as many people as there used to be, but you can usually drop a "who wants to grab some drinks" in a convention thread, and you'll meet at least one or two anon who will join you. I went to this Magfest (and every other convention I've been to) alone, but I've kept in touch with enough people I've met over time that I can usually find a group or two to meet up with at some point during the weekend. The overwhelming majority of these people were anon too, so it's not like you have to start chatting with complete strangers.
>>10966939
I can't speak for any previous ones but, yeah, I was a little bit disappointed there wasn't jam sessions or music stuff out and about all night.
>>10966799
Was the audio up on the rooftop bar completely fucked on the other days too? I popped on on Saturday, and it was unbearable, so I ended up dipping down and chilling on the balcony instead of up with everyone dancing. A bit of a shame, too, since I would have liked to hang out up there more
>>
>>10966940
Really, so you're saying it isn't the balding men with purses and hello kitty sweaters going into the women's restroom that keeps the hot women away from Mag, but because Katsu has Tiktok OF sluts seal of approval?

Friday is true night for night owls, the issue with Saturday is despite having the highest amount of attendees is a lot of people do not book for sunday night because the con ends at 4pm that evening and nobody really wants to go sleepless before the rush to check out of the hotel and beat traffic.
I've long felt that Mag should push the Sunday closing time to later, but I understand that the packup process takes at least 3 days.
>>
>>10966957
I feel like, assuming some radical /pol/ type shit doesn't happen in the near future, that there will eventually be a conflict that results in MAG and other afflicted cons to splitting.
Either MAG gets so fixated on trannies and gay orgies that it loses complete focus and the IT nerds and cosplay fans finally abandon ship or there some some seriously horrible sexual assault scandal takes place.
Either way, it starts at the corporate end, a simple bathroom policy could work wonders.

There isn't going to be some radical event, and sex scandals are so common in gaming everyone is already desensitized to it. It'll just be the same shit as always. The institution is infiltrated and becomes progressively more debased and radical, pushing out all the original people, then the normal people, then eventually even the gays who aren't gay enough. And there will be no replacement.
The only thing we can do for now is educate people on who is responsible.

>There isn't going to be
Never-everism is a fallacy, I'm sure 1970s iran thought they had achieved a state of western secularism forever; big mistake, people cave like paper bags and within a generation their entire culture changes via the efforts of a small population.
But that's not a discussion for this thread, we should focus on the later half of "How do we deal with this particular problem of MAG being veered into a self destructive direction"
>>10966977
This guy has a point for example, if dirt can be dug up on how the system is being manipulated in favor of transgenderism shit will be cleaned out.
We know how it can be achieved, just as they did, we get people who are sick of it INTO the higher seats and slowly debase them.
>>
>>10966968
I'm pretty sure it was because the hotel was badge only this year so cosplay sluts couldn't just get a few gazebo photos then fuck off to a party.
>>10966977
A friend who staffed told me that there were barely any atrium rooms in the general pool because they were all staff/volunteers and that they are probably gonna be more discriminating with volunteers in the future because so many people were doing it this year for the rooms. I hate the new system.

>The hotel was badge only this year so cosplay sluts couldn't just get a few Gazebo photos then fuck off to a party.
Sounds like a fair claim, but like at Katsucon or even Otakon you see hot women everywhere, not just the Gazebo. I simply refuse to believe that's the primary reason Mag is so female deprived.

> We know how it can be achieved, just as they did, we get people who are sick of it INTO the higher seats and slowly debase them.
This is beyond the scope of the thread, but there are a lot of people with this particular delusion that they can simply "do what the left did" or "vote our way out". Trannies did not become untouchable by simply sneaking into a committee chair and tricking everyone around them. Their status is enforced by the actual power structure, the kind of you can't get a "higher seat" for or even vote for. The real power structure that took multiple generations working exclusively over a century to establish. The gay orgy crowd doesn't have power because they voooooted harder than you or outnumbered you, they have it because the real people in charge began a policy of destroying the lives of anyone who speaks out against obvious degeneracy, because keeping you weak is important to them. All that free speech constitution shit isn't worth a roll of toilet paper, laws don't matter, only what they want matters and they prove it every day. They are not stupid enough to give you access to power that can undermine theirs. The only way it collapses is when an outside force causes it to, like a rival nation.

>>10966995
This claim makes a good amount of sense considering the last few years they've been stricter about having stuff hung on the balconies. What better way to control that by simply removing them to the pool and tossing scraps in form of raffles/charity auction (iirc sold for 40-50k this year for 2 atrium rooms, 8 badges, perks).
>>10967002
You forget most women that model for a living don't play video games. The ones that do show up are basically paraded by their orbiters.

I saw plenty of trans people but I saw just as many attractive women. I feel like people sat still and didnt explore. A lot of the attractive women were taken but that's not the point. They still showed up they just weren't available.
>>10967008
Over exaggerating it. I'm not trans so idk how it works but it's not personally affecting you.
>>
>>
>>10967009
>not personally affecting you.
Trans people really only have this kind of social suicide "control" online so I imagine anon got booted from some dork group and thinks this applies to the real world for some reason.
>>
>>10967005
I think the irony is lost to trans people when they go to a con that has people dressing up as fictional characters and then you have a mass of balding men in short skirts with gyno tits that are just dressing the way they usually dress in public.

The picture was taken at 630ish on Saturday, but I recall it being kinda empty too at 5am too when I walked though. There was still a decent amount of people in the arcade, so maybe I shouldn't have expected a lobby party when the sun is about to rise

No speedruns = far fewer troons.
Speedrunning and retro consoles attract balding troons like moths to a flame
Also hot women don't give a shit about "gaming" or some dude's "jam session". They care about getting their influencer pics and then going to room parties - which pretty much is all that katsu is.
>>
>>10966995
>I'm pretty sure it was because the hotel was badge only this year so cosplay sluts couldn't just get a few gazebo photos then fuck off to a party.
It really wasn't. I had a friend join us by just borrowing another friend's badge to get into the hotel, and then giving it back once she was inside. At one point i forgot to bring my badge with me when picking up a (massively overpriced) uber eats order, and just flashed my room keycard at the staff and he just let me through. So you could've probably just used an old room keycard from last year and gotten in.

Exactly, so I don't get why that anon is surprised the gazebo is dead at 6:30 on a Saturday. It was probably pretty decently packed around that time on Friday.
He should know the immense saturday flood rush is all the "I can only attend one day" crowd who doesn't have a hotel anyway and they aren't likely to be the ones sticking to the Gazebo for hours.
>>
>>10967036
You're right, hot women don't care about gaming or jam sessions, but they do care about invading male niche hobbies to get attention. The only difference I see between Magfest and Katsu attendency, aside from a broader age demographic, is way more trannies at MAG and a decent amount of guys that look like they only leave their house for MAG.
There are indeed loads of ugly men and women at Katsu, so the only thing I can conclude, ultimately, is the presence of trannies making it a less appealing con to try and attention milk.

Thankfully i left my room around 10:05am, when the lines were only kinda bad.
A few years ago at katsu i did stair-chad it all the way down from floor 7. Far less luggage back then though.

There's a difference between some trap crossplaying, and every other troon you see just being some fat dude with zero makeup growing out their norwood 4 hairline wearing a skirt and leggings (that don't hide their unshaven leg hair at all).
