Seriously what happened? I heard some BS happened last year but it wasn't bad enough to wipe discussion off the board was it? Just got my room filled and looking forward to it.

Not going to defend the CA discord groups, I mean at least it's not the dumpster fire I see the midwest as, but even if you aren't big to discord it's nice to have a place to instantly ask and get replies at. Also a pretty nice way to at least find a few cool people to hang out with.
West coast con official discords are abhorrently bad
>>
>>
>>10965239
>why do you need "instant" replies?
Because I work a 9-5 job and don't have the time often to dig around through a slog of random comments or posts to work back what random thing this time changed last minute or got cancelled or whatever. Maybe 'instant' was not the correct word, but nearly instant or within a short time often within a lunch break.
>it's a goddamn convention there's always something to do
Which is exactly why the few days off I have for the event I want to ensure I'm doing everything to make the most of it. How is this hard to understand for anyone with a normal work/life schedule in the modern day. If you have the free time to comb through random social media posts that OOPS not on x.com this time now on bluesky or oops this only got posted to facebook! or oops this was only in discord! etc and can catch that's great. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time around this event as a working adult.

I'm still excited for ALA, it's still my favorite con and I appreciate the chill vibes and the fact that people are very interactive and easy to talk to. Only downside is that if it happens to rain it does get cold as balls.

>anime cons
>in the Midwest
They've never made sense to me. Cons in the west coast make sense. They're the ones physically closest to Japan after all. East Coast cons also make sense cause they're near major population centers.
Midwest cons make zero sense. Barely any people. Located in flyover country i.e. planes no one actually cares to visit and they're very far from Japan.

>fact that people are very interactive and easy to talk to
Sorry, this isn't the late 2000s-early 2010s anymore. No one talks to anyone outside of their inner circle at cons these days because no one wants to come off as a creep

No it's true. Zoomers are the worst examples of this by far. Anyone chatting up their clique or just saying hi is either a loser creep or a groomer trying to groom them. Which is funny to say because some zoomers are already in their late 20s.

You can thank that faggot who dresses up as the Yellow Ranger that burned another cosplayer's car which got ALA booted from Ontario. That's why no one wants to socialize people at cons that are outside their comfort zone.

It's true, it's easy to strike up a conversation for ribbons or to talk about cosplays. You probably won't make best friends or anything, but it's nice to swap socials and catch the same people at other events.
>>
>>
>>10965974
It's also really easy to make a group of new friends just by pulling up to any random table in the lobby after 9PM with a deck of cards and asking if anyone wants to play. If they say no, move on and hit the next table. Doesn't hurt if you have a beer or candy to hand out either.

>see someone last ALA also cosplaying from the game I'm cosplaying
>we run into eachother a few times in the halls thursday
>turns into running into eachother and chatting a bit on friday
>then we hangout and get dinner across the street saturday
>we are now rooming together in 2 weeks
having a cosplay is so damn easy mode

Some of my best memories were made with random people at cons who I know I'll never meet again desu, would recommend

Caring about Covid in 2025 going onto 2026 is virtue signaling at this point. Talk to people. Some stupid overblown flue from half a decade ago should not discourage you from meeting new friends and creating great memories with them. Stop being anti social and go out there.

I haven't been on cgl since ~2018 and it's sad to see suddenly see this board just kinda dead. I miss all the old threads, tripfags, and people posting about cgl meetups. What the hell happened to this place other than "discordfags". Did this board never get new people coming in that actually cares about cons or something? Actually attempt to meet other people, I met a lot of fun people from the cgl meetups over the years
Anyways, now that I'm doing cons again I still need to plan out cosplays for 2026. Is CWF still a thing? That's honestly the main panel I always looked forward to every con.

A large portion is just people not wanting to be associated with 4chan I feel, 2016 wasn't the deathnail that COVID cabinfever made about how bad 4channel is.
A large part of the cosplay community also I feel just grew old enough to not deal with some of the 'unique' characters that show up. Last meetup I went to was 3-4 people from pol spouting shit, most people just stopping by to say they weren't dead, and desu was just more glad to do my own thing. It feels like there is no general ~from the internet vibe~ where 4chan was just people who knew meme's and silly takes. Now you have polar opposites, being that of a minority chill and a majority coomer/pol faggots who don't know what an indoor voice is.
>>
>>10966195
Adding to this >>10966203 after the hack a few months ago and 4chan being down for awhile also ended up decreasing traffic to the site, a lot of the people that still tolerated 4chan found other places to be.

damn.. I guess all that makes sense then. I took a break around the time retards from other boards started to show up but they were kinda pushed to the side for the most part. It's sad to see the problem stuck around. I remember my first cgl meetup, it was busy and lively and I was awkward and quiet. I'm staying optimistic though that this place will get some sort of new life, even if it's only a small one.
>>10966219
It'll probably be fine. If it does rain bad then keep track of how many cosplayers forget an umbrella.

Most of it is because there's no reason to look here anymore now that every public IP is rangebanned so every con thread dies while the con is happening, so what's the point anymore?
I still come to this board because I know a lot of you anons are fun and still more quality than the fags who show up for Dealer's and AA then leave.

At least for CA, can't speak for the rest of the country. Years of shitthattotallyhappened.txt finally caught up with this group and others. I remember 2014-2019 virtually every CA con was the worst thing ever and all kinds of drama would happen that turned out to nothing burgers. I can't recall the amount of splinter discords that were made what felt like after every con.
Will be coming from Japan hope it's fun long time since been to ALA

I finally got my computer working.
The line wasn't too bad. There was a dude fully decked out in Haruhi gear and we talked for about 45 seconds.
Seeing parents shield their kids from the J18 booth was funny. Extremely basado.
The ballroom dance might be fun. I'm tired as shit right now from prepping last night but the quiet room is being run by trannies playing FNAF shit, so no rest for me.

I really liked this woman's merch just from the variety of it. Or it's just because I actually know who the characters are and where they're from. Anyways I bought a print, which I never do.
Is anyone going to the ballroom dance tonight? If you are I'll be extremely conspicuous.

Another funny: The English Haruhi VA (old) bought and used a drawing of Haruhi that's clearly from a pornography set. I recognize the artist.

the dance? It was a clusterfuck, then I ran all over the fucking joint being misdirected to the swapmeet despite knowing where it was, then I completely botched my karaoke thing I waited hours for.
I might skip Saturday for meguc/a/

Only went one day (friday) but one of the better "small" cons still around. People are friendly, the lines go quick, enough panels and industry to not just be a complete party con, lots of free shit to do, location is super pretty with lots of places to eat and relax, and the artist alley was absolutely massive. Also the bathrooms were clean

I was depressed a lot of the con, my mental was not good. I am sure I didn't show it between friends but a lot of the time I wanted to break down and cry. A few events made me happy. I had a lot of fun doing some dtuff but my mental was not in a good place this con. I was constantly worrying. I still want to cry but I made new friends so I am happy I came. I'm saving my sanity and skipping

i follow the miku on the left from a cosplay meetup I attended with them before.
they were ranting about volunteering at the con this year and basically getting banned because they acted like a shizo towards one of the volunteer leads
they're a total weirdo that went viral for meeting bbno$ and are still trying to ride that popularity wave. not surprising that they decided to sing over a little girl

What the hell were these brands and why were they there?
It feels like they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for brands, I’m surprised ACDC rag wasn’t there seeing as they’d be in little Tokyo a week later. Even Venia is an outlier because their pieces are beautiful but I think local sweaty weebs wouldn’t drop $500 on a jacket at a convention.
