what's with the handful of people trying to push this word so desperately? it doesn't even make sense for what you're trying to describe and that genre of person is literally just an evolution of a concept that already existed with the tumblr smol bean crowd.

It's just a downwardly mobile tumblr/fandom/geek/alt/septum piercing type
These things all go together these days
It's not a subculture but a very normal aspect of left-behind america now
anime-fication of the american lower-middle classes in the hinterlands

Dunno why they invented a new word for e-girls, I guess maybe "e-girl" is a slur now so they have to call themselves a more insulting version of "mall goth", or maybe "e-girl" became too associated with streamers. Or maybe the term "e-girl" didn't have enough emphasis on the goth part, since the goth look is currently making a comeback.
If there is a split between e-girls and dinergoths as this UD screenshot implies, I'd say cosplay is e-girls since cosplay is expensive and there's a heavy emphasis on being poor in this definition.

Honestly a good way of describing the job market over the past two years, but that discussion might be too /biz/ for this board.

I don't get the conflation of weebism and piercings/tats. The latter have permeated every segment of society, including a vast horde of normies who care nothing for anime. OTH, anime/weeb-nerdom may have been normalized as a hobby but it's never hit majority status in any demographic.
I don't see the overlap. If weebs body-mod it's only because everyone is body-modding these days.

>there are male dinergoths
the term e-boy exists

I feel like the same thing was happening with blue hair in the 2010's. I remember seeing people who look like they never touched anime (old people for example) suddenly having pink or green hair, presumably because they saw some young girl copying off of anime. Seems like that fad died during covid.

I'm all for Mc dinner goth, they only dine in Mc, they're very advanced though they combine multiple offers and coupons, they're all obese, they wear dark makeup, to express their grief for not being able to order more mc nuggets

Amazing how low iqs on this board are. Clearly says that everything goth is just a fact of life now.
And to answer OPs question, yes. Anime is basically mainstream now and "cosplay" is no different than a bunch of sluts dressing up for halloween or dressing fancy for a formal event. It just a thing everyone does now. And while we're at it most conventions and events aren't even full of nerds anymore, just normalfags doing what geeks did 20 years ago.

I graduated in 2007, just in time to watch all my friends' life trajectories get annihilated in the 2008 crash when suddenly nobody anywhere was hiring. The current situation (starting with covid and continuing to accelerate to this day) has merely been a long-delayed second shoe dropping.

The most diner goth thing I can think of is
>Cosplaying
>as a nameless Ghoul from the band Ghost
>at ColossalCon
Could probably add on more like what beer they've got in hand but I don't know enough on that subject to make an authoritative brand namedrop

"Awesome" is measured by the standard of ColossalCon instead of the inverse. Dinergoth isn't an insult, it's just a stated fact here
