Are people there nice? Are there any activities you would recommend? I was really hoping for karaoke since it's something I don't have in my home country

>Are people there nice?
they're alright I guess. pretty typical awkward, progressive, tumblr-y college kid types
>Are there any activities you would recommend?
last year they had a "guess that anime song" panel that I thought was a lot of fun as well as one or two other I quite enjoyed but there were also some rather middling ones
>I was really hoping for karaoke
they do have karaoke, although it's not exactly what I imagine would come to mind upon hearing "karaoke". last year I had the displeasure of performing a rather subpar rendition of Porter Robinson's "Cheerleader" in front of an audience of at least 150 people
and a question for you if you don't mind, why Toracon in particular? It's not a bad con or anything but I'd figured someone visiting from outside the US would prefer to attend a much larger/more well-known con that's not in Upstate NY

Wow. What a violently unnoteworthy con to randomly even find talked about here. And it just so happens to be one that I've been going to on and off for a decade
Its nothing special. I suppose they have a "sense" of what a con should be, with the experienced people more or less being the nerdo weirdo types that you'd exactly expect from a technical school who actually do go to other cons and Japan to know better, but for some reason, they stick around and don't bother to leave to do better things
Snowfest is run by their cosplay troupe which is basically their trial Toracon, but is largely more of an excuse for them to build money than focus on the actual quality of their big event. Not that they find anything original to "try out" each year anyway that bigger cons haven't already figured out with proven success
This school itself is nerd haven for the locals and regularly has nerdy smaller events that are more or less are okay for the public to go to, but is also exactly why the scale of their event gets limited more and more each day. They've had cool guests from Japan in the past, I guess. Lately the school is causing them issues with their inventory and there was a whole petition against the school signed for it though
Tldr; a small con that everyone who remembers says it dies more with each year, but for people who don't have to try too hard to go its fun I guess
