I really like how there is some gap between Magfest and Katsu this year. Last year was rough with them almost being double headers
>what are you cosplaying?
Mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma
>any panels/events you’re interested in?
Eh, I find myself rarely going to panels at conventions. I've got some friends/groups I'm going to meet up with, but I'll otherwise play it by ear and see what happens
>where the parties at?
Everywhere, really. Just bum around the gazebo at night and booze up with the strangers there. If you're friendly, they'll surely invite you along. It's worked for me so far

I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I wouldn't necessarily call mine "good." The scuffed part is that I'm going to try to just style my hair instead of wearing (or foregoing) a wig, but mine is a bit longer than his and pretty curly, so we'll see how that goes when the time comes. I would be surprised how a scuffed cosplay of him would be, since all the parts are easily sourced. Labcoat of the correct length, light grey/white shirt, khakis, canvas belt. I should have thought about having a friend print out the phone for another prop, but I'll have the pin and a Dr Pepper with me as props, so it'll be alright.

sounds pretty good. I went with a diet dr pepper bottle (because I refuse to drink the real stuff) and got recognized several times despite the quality of my costume and it being a smaller and more gaming-focused event

Pic rel is the main draw, and it's outside the ticketed area of the convention. To your previous question, expect some less than friendly crowds. This isn't demoralization or a "skill issue" (see: Dragoncon, a lot more welcoming)

How can I make the most of attending solo? I've only been to Otakon, where I mostly checked out panels and browsed the dealer hall and artist alley. Also heard that Katsu is more of a party con, and my impression from Otakon was that a lot of cosplayers already show up in established groups, so going by myself feels a bit intimidating

You need a cosplay. Its an easy ice breaker that can help you make friends just by cosplaying something from your favorite show or game. I'm rooming at katsu with people I did not know yet last year, but met at other cons and added on discord after talking about the game we were both from.

Crossplaying as Mina Ha from Deadlock. I'll probably just tag along with friends like always but I'd love to meet up with people from the thread again

This'll be my first Katsu, landed a room at the Gaylord luckily enough. I get that it's influencer-heavy but I'm cosplaying every day, bringing plenty of booze, and can talk to people pretty well after a couple drinks in me. Should be a great time considering that. Just hoping we don't get slammed with another shitty snowstorm.

Agnes Tachyon. Wig's mostly ready to go, but definitely need an extra opinion and pair of hands to style the front.
