I don't know why, but when I'm at the Gaylord hotel, I feel like I'm at home

The Lord of Gay, to be specific
>>
I really like how there is some gap between Magfest and Katsu this year. Last year was rough with them almost being double headers
>what are you cosplaying?
Mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma
>any panels/events you’re interested in?
Eh, I find myself rarely going to panels at conventions. I've got some friends/groups I'm going to meet up with, but I'll otherwise play it by ear and see what happens
>where the parties at?
Everywhere, really. Just bum around the gazebo at night and booze up with the strangers there. If you're friendly, they'll surely invite you along. It's worked for me so far

post Kyouma cosplay at some point. I did a rather subpar cosplay of him at a local con a few months ago and I wanna see what a good one looks like for future reference
>>
>>10967447
half expected that post was you, with the trip off

glad to be back in the USA, can't wait

Chat Noir. Celty Sturluson. Some random catboy.

Same shit as Mag, although Katsu feels like a more appropriate venue for them.

I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I wouldn't necessarily call mine "good." The scuffed part is that I'm going to try to just style my hair instead of wearing (or foregoing) a wig, but mine is a bit longer than his and pretty curly, so we'll see how that goes when the time comes. I would be surprised how a scuffed cosplay of him would be, since all the parts are easily sourced. Labcoat of the correct length, light grey/white shirt, khakis, canvas belt. I should have thought about having a friend print out the phone for another prop, but I'll have the pin and a Dr Pepper with me as props, so it'll be alright.

This will be my first Katsu, what can I expect?
>>
>>10967525
Photographer setups lining every hall
>>
>>10967527
So is the main attraction just cosplayers getting their photos taken?
>>
>>10967528
Yeah pretty much

Convention near DC?
$1000 a night $200 rooms?
I'll pass, thanks
>>
>>10967536
If you don't mind taking the bus/uber, there are some cheap talking 350-400 for thurs->sunday right across the water.
>>
>>10967516
sounds pretty good. I went with a diet dr pepper bottle (because I refuse to drink the real stuff) and got recognized several times despite the quality of my costume and it being a smaller and more gaming-focused event
>>
>>10967528
Yes you will see soon that its the main draw for people to the building
>>
>>10967528
Pic rel is the main draw, and it's outside the ticketed area of the convention. To your previous question, expect some less than friendly crowds. This isn't demoralization or a "skill issue" (see: Dragoncon, a lot more welcoming)

How can I make the most of attending solo? I've only been to Otakon, where I mostly checked out panels and browsed the dealer hall and artist alley. Also heard that Katsu is more of a party con, and my impression from Otakon was that a lot of cosplayers already show up in established groups, so going by myself feels a bit intimidating
>>

You need a cosplay. Its an easy ice breaker that can help you make friends just by cosplaying something from your favorite show or game. I'm rooming at katsu with people I did not know yet last year, but met at other cons and added on discord after talking about the game we were both from.
>>
>>10967425
Crossplaying as Mina Ha from Deadlock. I'll probably just tag along with friends like always but I'd love to meet up with people from the thread again
>>
>>10967425
This'll be my first Katsu, landed a room at the Gaylord luckily enough. I get that it's influencer-heavy but I'm cosplaying every day, bringing plenty of booze, and can talk to people pretty well after a couple drinks in me. Should be a great time considering that. Just hoping we don't get slammed with another shitty snowstorm.
>>
who wants to make a few bucks styling my wig during the con?
>>
>>10967463
is mag or katsu better
>>
>>10967609
i can, what character is it for? and do you have a proton/disc for contact? :0
>>
>Katsu clamping down on lobbyconning and ghosting
Based, fuck the parasites
>>
>>10967664
Agnes Tachyon. Wig's mostly ready to go, but definitely need an extra opinion and pair of hands to style the front.
>>
>>10967663
Depends. Mag is probably better for actual "stuff to do". Katsu is better for cosplaying.
>>
>>10967700
what's better for nightlife/partying

also what has more girls
>>
>>10967820
Katsucon has the best girls and cosplayers. Also has the best lesbian couples there too.
>>
>>10967425
I almost got head by the Boise State TPUSA representative in this hotel in 2020.
>>
I hear homestuck is making a comeback cosplay wise
>>
>>10967877
Because of the animation announcement. I've seen alot at mag
>>
Magfest drained all my money and I dont think katsu could top it. I'll be at the gaylord next year
>>
If you guys see a Suika from Touhou cosplayer be sure to dap me up. I be wearing that Saturday the other 2 days normal shit. Will be my first Katsu con, however more excited to walk around DC, will be my first time up there will be taking funny pictures with the Washington Monument iykyk
>>
>>10967903
Out of curiosity, why not Friday too? Touhou meet is 7 at the gazebo.
>>
>>10967906
