Isn't it the opposite? The oldest study I can find about it is one from 2015 concerning "dimorphous" emotional expression (being so happy you cry type of stuff) that used cuteness because it's easy to reproduce in a controlled setting. Google trends says the term cute aggression dates back to 2014, but I can't find how people were using it.
As far as I know, that one 4chan post about malevolent cuteness aggression was made after this. And it was less a refutation of it and more an observation of a dysfunctional, maladaptive variant of it that seems to be prevalent among some populations and explain some of their behaviors.

OK, I was able to dig a little deeper. The term cute aggression didn't exist anywhere before January 2013. And when it did appear, it was already being used to refer to the normal urge to harmlessly squeeze and pinch cute things. It appears to have been coined by two Yale grad students translating a Tagalog word, gigil, into English.
The understanding of it as a negative, actually violent thing seems to be limited to 4chan. The main catalyst was a thread on an altchan from 12/31/2018 that was reposted on /pol/ a few days later. I also misremembered. The OP of that thread posted a link to the 2015 study on "dimorphous expressions". But he apparently didn't read it because pretty much the entire post was misunderstanding what it was about. This is when it was reframed as a hatred of cuteness/beauty and associated with low IQ.
There were posts before this using cute aggression to refer to more violent desires. But these retained its original meaning tied to an overwhelming cuteness and were typically used by anons to refer to themselves with no stated hatred of the cute character and no association with IQ. They mostly seem like people being edgy/extreme, as is often the case here, with it occasionally being misattributed to actual sociopaths. It was likely these latter mistaken uses that led to the creation of the /pol/ thread.

Have you read what they said? Plato, the man so heavily associated with non-erotic love that it is named after him, spoke about boys with as much unbridled eros as anons here do. The Allister plushie I ordered finally arrived (the package arrived two days ago, but I was out of town and couldn't open it until now) and I love it. I'm pleasantly surprised by the size of the plushie and the quality of the materials. From the photos I saw, I imagined it would be smaller and poorly finished, with loose threads and that strange smell that poor-quality fabric has. I'm also surprised that customs officials did not damage it during inspection and that I was not charged import duties for the toy.
If it weren't for the fact that my house is currently covered in dust due to my absence, I would have my little son in my arms right now.
