Nickelodeon is so desperate for a new reboot idea they're having their interns and animation students partnered with them make reboot pitches

Aging him up and the coat are nice but the accessories they gave his ghost form are gross. Don't fix what isn't broke; it's a simple and solid design.

It honestly doesn't look that bad, but is setting it 50 years in the future really necessary? Danny would probably be the only white person on Earth left.
Though I'm not surprised by Butch, people actually think those angry rantsona videos ruined him, but in reality he's been a 4d chess puppetmaster over at Nickelodeon and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a top level exec there at some point.

What a depressing as fuck era.
They do not even make them pretend to pitch original ideas, just throw out what of the same 20 IPs from the specific network they can slightly rework into a new version.
Which no network is making new shows anyway so it is pointless to even have interns. And even if a reboot pitch was greenlit like Ren & Stimpy they will find some tax writeoff and never release it.
I cannot even bluepill and watch animation to escape all this decaying economy, Epstein and geopolitics shittery because there is no circus being made anymore.

I don't really understand this attitude that everything has to be an "established" IP, that new IPs are too risky, when they're supposedly entertaining reboots of medicore, forgotten IPs. Is a new Danny Phantom cartoon really a safer bet than some new idea?

Anon, no matter how shitty a reboot is, think of the millions saved in pre-production cause you already have most concepts figured out from the get go. You can fund 5 more reboots with that money saved. Or a personal yacht(its mostly about buying yachts)
>>

Honestly aside from the student skipping out on drawing the hands like a lazy piece of shit, in a normal production this would actually be suitable like in a regular production pipeline. The student can at least stage a scene and despite the BG's being drawn like shit the guy does have a grasp of space and knowing where the elements should be. It would be up to the actual animators to bring in good draftsmanship, and if this show were hypothetically greeenlit they would have some BG's like the school planned out in advanced so a storyboard artist would be given those BG's and just draw on top of that normally.
But yeah you cant skip out on hands man especially since in Butch Hartmans style most default hands look like golf clubs anyway just make a generic hand shape at least

I see anon, but given the context of students and interns scrapping this together with no actual official models to work from, and the fact that most interns in the vid dont seem to be actual artists but people who are on the business side of things that are focusing on shit like merch and hypothetical collaborations that are clearly not fucking happening, this doesnt read as someone doing a genuine pitch but just as an exercise for the interns to do that they had to scrap up in like a month or so.
With your example the way you typed it, I assume you are talking about people who are in production who already have model sheets of these characters so one they actually have actual models to work from. But aside from that the demands of storyboard artists can shift from studio to studio. I knew an instructor named Javier Barbosa who was already a credited storyboard guy who was assigned a board test for Bojack Horsman, and his shit was on model for those characters and he got rejected cause of that reason.

Is this legit. (And not just a fan animation with a name change now to grab attention) If it is and this is what passes for an animatic nowadays I really should just apply to any random studio with a mid quickly slapped together portfolio for quick cash. I cannot draw outside my style or on model but there's no way I can't get a job if this guy could. No offense.

A serious answer would be that it would make hiding his identity just a tad easier when originally he was pretty much the most obvious hero around next to Sailor Moon to the point it's a wonder literally no one else figured out that the guy whose name is four words off from "Phantom", who looks exactly like the guy outside of hair color and eyes, and sounds identical to the mf too, is the funny ghost superhero until like the very fuckin' end.

The Oaxis scam, and Butch not being transparent from the outset that it was going to be a Christian streaming service. There were also a bunch of of insensitive comments he made about suicide, like suicide not existing when he was a kid, or Tara Strong being responsible for Mary Kay Bergman’s suicide. There’s also his low effort yet expensive commission that he clearly traces, and jerking behavior on the internet. Honestly, I think he’s a bit of a dickhead, but I don’t think he deserves to be blacklisted. There are far worse people in the industry that deserve it more.

I don't hate Butch, but it always mildly bothered me that Butch tried to retcon all the ghosts in Danny Phantom as never being humans at all and only being monsters from another world in recent years despite the fact that some of them did in fact used to be humans before they died within the actual show
some Butch Hartman apologists claim "it actually make sense since most of them don't look like people", but that's a shitty cope as in most fictional media ghosts take different forms and shapes depending on the human's personality, that's how it was in Ghostbusters with all his bizarre ghosts or how it is in Japanese media such as yokai folklore and anime/manga, every ghost looking exactly the same would be boring and lazy, won't it?
he also said that Vlad Plasmius survived the events of the show but was kidnapped and enslaved by space aliens, I might be misremembering but I don't remember the show ever hitting at the existence of space aliens before so that feels a little random
>>
>>
>>152336178
He's like the Game Of Thrones showrunners where he's not officially blacklisted, but he's seen in an extremely bad light both outside and inside the industry. It's why Nick invites him to events like this but refuses to give him another show.
>>
>>152335967
I don't even understand why they need pitches for reboots of their own shit. Like you can just have anyone look at their older programming and pick one and go. I get that the pitch includes new aspects that are 'creative', but why not just have them pitch something new from the start?
And the pitch includes episode counts? That's like the least important part of the fucking cartoon.
>>
>>152341124
The retcon was unfortunately necessary. I do not like it either, but there will always be a retarded segment of the population that freaks out the minute they even get the tiniest implication of something edgy or dangerous or politically radically.
>"Yes, here in our show about ghosts we-"
>"ARE THE GHOSTS DEAD? HOW DID THEY DIE? WERE THEY MURDERED? IS THIS AN ATTACK ON CHRISTIANITY? AN ATTEMPT TO BRAINWASH PEOPLE INTO BECOMING CHRISTIANS? ARE THE GHOSTS DEMONS?"
>"The ghosts are actually a supernatural lifeform with nothing to do with dead people."

>they want danny to fight robots
You can set it NOW and still have him fight robots. It's FICTION as in NOT REAL. We don't have ghost portals and ghost catching contraptions IRL. The shit the Ghostbusters used wouldn't be possible in the actual 80s. It's just autists who can't suspend their disbelief, so they come up with these convoluted reasons and explanations for the shit they want. It's stupid.

>Just put all the action-comedy Nicktoons in the same universe.
I've been saying the same for the longest. CN too. Could've cashed in on the MCU craze but nah. They'd rather just sit on these IPs instead.

>They do not even make them pretend to pitch original ideas
If these people could make a good original idea they would have already made a good original idea. Someone doesn't suddenly get the next golden goose idea as soon as they get a Nick id badge, they have to poor their heart and soul into it for years on their own time.
>>
>>152342540
It's been speculated for years that Butch did it when his wife became a born-again Christian. He already had one show that was all about how cool magic was, so he made the ghost change to stay out of hot water with his new Bible Buddies.
>>
>It starts with the Fentons moving to Amity Park (the reason why they moved is that they caused too much trouble in their old town)
>At Danny’s first day at Casper High, Jack and Maddie appear looking for a ghost, turning Danny into an easily relatable laughingstock/pariah
>Sam (who is more gothlike) is the only person who talks to him (being interested in his ghost hunting parents)
>”I wish my parents were normal”
>”Normalcy is servery overrated”
>He tells her about the Fenton Portal and she coaxes him to check it out (which he does in the middle of next night)
>He gets his ghost powers and faces off against the first ghost to come out of the Fenton Portal, The Box Ghost
>Tucker first appears in the 3rd to 5th ep (Danny asks for his help in defeating Technus)
>The Far Frozen have traits of Ice Age Megabeasts
>Sam has a crush on The Ghost Boy at first but only finds out that Danny is said Ghost Boy in the finale of the first season at the earliest
>Vlad reforms (during the 3rd season at the earliest) and Freakshow becomes the show's main villain (releasing Pariah Dark in the series finale movie)

Premise
This reboot reframes Danny Phantom as a grounded supernatural coming-of-age drama about identity, responsibility, and the cost of being unseen. No gimmick villains-of-the-week, no inflated ensemble, no shock-for-shock’s-sake darkness. Just one kid caught between worlds, and what that does to him.
Danny Fenton is still a 14-year-old who survives an accident in his parents’ ghost portal—but instead of instantly becoming a quippy superhero, he becomes unstable. Phasing hurts. Invisibility isolates. Using his powers subtly erodes his sense of where he belongs. The ghosts aren’t goofy monsters or edgy metaphors—they’re remnants: unfinished people, broken intentions, echoes that linger because something went unresolved.
Tone & Approach
The show leans eerie, quiet, and emotionally precise rather than loud or cynical. Think tension over spectacle. Atmosphere over chaos. Humor exists, but it grows naturally out of character, not winks or parody. The series trusts the audience to sit with ambiguity instead of undercutting it.
Cast (Intentionally Small)
Danny is the center of gravity. The story never forgets this is his burden.
Sam isn’t a rebel archetype or moral megaphone; she’s perceptive, grounded, and often the only person who sees when Danny is lying to himself.
Tucker is pragmatic, loyal, and scared in a way that feels honest—he’s the one asking “what happens if this doesn’t get better?”
Jack and Maddie aren’t comic relief caricatures. They’re brilliant, obsessed, and tragically unaware that their life’s work is slowly destroying their son.
No sprawling hero teams. No rotating gag characters. If someone is on screen, they matter.
>>
>>152346831
Ghosts as Story, Not Gimmicks
Each major ghost arc ties directly into Danny’s internal conflict. They aren’t evil because the plot needs a fight—they’re stuck, obsessive, grieving, or afraid to move on. Danny doesn’t “win” by punching harder; he wins by understanding what anchors them… and what anchors him.
The Core Question
Instead of asking “How do I balance school and ghost-fighting?” the reboot asks something quieter and sharper:
If you can disappear whenever things get hard, do you ever learn how to stay?
Why This Works Now
Danny Phantom: Liminal speaks to a generation that already feels half-present—online, anxious, performative, drifting between versions of themselves. It modernizes the show not by adding noise or edge, but by stripping it down to what always mattered: a kid trying to exist in a world that doesn’t fully see him, and the terrifying freedom of slipping through the cracks.

Complex systems won't survive the competence crisis. The constant battle against skill issues still continues with modern cartoon studios. Sad to say, but the 90s were truly the last era when animation peak.
>>
>>152335411
I'm not going to say the original style was the best in the world, but the proportions in this reboot are really unappealing. It's top heavy in a way that makes him look like a cross between a string puppet and an orangutan.
That description is also weird. It's a reboot, we already know what kind of character he is. It's giving us nothing new other than the age bump.
>>
>>152339675
It looked alright, seemed like a Crash Bandicoot clone but with Catdog, we got lots of Crash Bandicoot clones during the late 90s, and early 2000s, Donald Duck's Going Quackers and Scooby-Doo's Cyberchase were probably the best examples
>>
It's not just that they chased all the talent away with cancelation after cancelation, the budget for good looking shows isn't there anymore. Imagine The Angry Beavers on a 2026 budget. It would be animated like a sideshow.

If the show were meant to be a more sophisticated take on Danny Phantom, I would like for the art direction to be more more sophisticated as well. (Imagine if Teen Titans Go came out first, and was followed up by Teen Titans.)
Also, I'd be afraid of any modern "mature" reboot to just be metaphors for certain progressive ideals, rather than just legitimately more mature storylines and action.

I just got done watching and i gotta say i am impressed, it looks good.
But the thing i wanna mention is that yes, i too am tired of Nickelodeon rebooting everything without doing much new.
I feel vindicated for not pitching my show to and being done with Nickelodeon every time they nostalgia bait/pander because it lets me know that whatever i give them, no matter how amazing, will never be respected by them simply because it's new and not nostalgic enough for them.
Perhaps i am jumping the gun, and someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but right now from what i have seen, Nickelodeon can't do anything new anymore.
The only exception to this is Rock, Paper, Scissors, i have recently been bing watching that show, still on season one (I think, haven't really checked to see what specific season i'm on.) and the first episodes of the show are alright, everything after it has been hilarious and really feels like classic Nickelodeon while still being new and its own thing, and that show is still going on with three seasons so Nickelodeon is willing to give that a chance, i only wish they'd do more of it with more new shows.
I have recently been watching shorts from Oh Yeah! Cartoons and Nickelodeon Shorts Program and there's a lot of good shorts that have potential that Nickelodeon can pick up at any time they want, but current leadership is too obsessed with what gives off that nostalgia feeling, and even that's wearing off now.
Seriously, Rugrats, Star Trek, Transformers, Monster High, so much TMNT in such a short time, and that's not to mention all of the spin offs and mediocre at best video games. Literally the only exception is Fairly OddParents A New Wsh.
Don't get me wrong, this Danny Phantom reboot looks great, i hope it gets picked up, it's what i was hoping for and i'm sure it will be a good, fun time. I also want more new shows in the mix you know?
I should make a thread about Nickelodeon shorts that they should pick up as new shows sometime soon.

What >>152351048 said.
Sam was always vegan, the first episode had her completely change the lunch menue to nothing but vegan.
This upset the Lunch Lady Ghost and when she said she'd stop terrorizing the school if the menue gets put back to normal Sam told her no.
Sam has also always been a feminist so her new design makes perfect sense for her.
>>152348961
I know what i said but even then what's with this pessimistic behavior> I didn't see any of the 90s reboots get this reaction so why the 2000s?
>>152353238

>>
>>
>>152353404
>I hope you're not implying that the OG Danny Phantom is Teen Titans Go level.
No, I'm just describing the direction I'd like to see.
With some exceptions, art style can be a limiting factor in the kind of action sequences that are possible. I know this is wishful thinking, but I would very much like a show designed from the ground up to be traditionally animated, rather than something rig friendly, as these screenshots are.
>>
>>
Nick 100% wants a Danny Phantom reboot.
>Fairly Oddparents reboots/remakes have all been complete slop and poisoned the franchise as a whole
>Spongebob still kicking and profitable
>They won't touch Angry Beavers with a 10 foot pole
>Rugrats reboot failed to capture any attention besides it being shit
Nick obviously recognizes that there's a lot of attention on them to bring back beloved franchises and the Danny Phantom Fortnite skins out of nowhere was super fucking weird.
>>
>>152339374
Not only did Nickelodeon barely advertised them but they shoved the last two onto Netflix.
Nickelodeon got a new president since then and he has been full in with reboot as his main business strategy is nostalgia pander hard and so far it's been terrible with only one exception being The Fairly OddParents A New Wish.
But both the former and current Nickelodeon leadership have one issue in common and that's believing that their Is are big enough to sell themselves and wonder why they don't when there's no marketing or advertising behind them.
They even have this problem with SpongeBob.
>>
>>152339311
Danny Phantom has millions of fans with multiple movements and petitions to bring it back and even the original creators and crew are on board with a reboot and as we can see here there's a lot of Nickelodeon employees who want it as well.
Not to mention how the original show got cut down from five seasons to three and having its lead writer fired causing the final third season to be rushed and disappointing giving fans, crew, and Nickelodeon employees more reason to want the show to have a second chance.
Danny Phantom is the Nicktoon that deserves a reboot the most.
Why be so pessimistic about this?
>>152353654
A New Wish has been amazing and did amazing.
Who knows how much SpongeBob has left due to the poor box office of the new movie and the poor sales for the video game.

Terrible. Literally first minute and half of episode one before intro make for a better teaser than this whole episode

I dont think there was a single joke. So what Im suppose to like? No exciting action scenes. No relatable teen drama. No lore hook. No interesting personalities. Basically nothing to get you invested.
