Honestly I thought they were much better than Season 6 for the most part when you can tell they were kinda running out of ideas. There is some dud here and there but overall there is an energy the show was lacking a bit towards the end.

My guess is that something was to happen in the movie where on some level the show ends up restructuring itself, and the title change was supposed to be reflective of that happening. A before and an after.
We didn't get the movie. And maybe they weren't allowed to change the title because of contracts when the movie was dropped.
Also, I think Ben said something in an interview where he just plainly stated he wanted a new title to keep things fresh, but he could be omitting the whole truth.

Well, they have up until March 2029 to make the switch (by then the .fla files become unusable). I assume Season 8 (or Seasons 3+4 of TWWWOG) is made in Animate and the cost of redoing all the rigs in Toon Boom or whatever other software goes into season 9 if it happens.
