Super Friends

Super Friends.
We've been over this.
>>
>>152346921
Too easy to make fun of and not as relatable. He's a king of an undersea civilization who has to deal with all that entails. Even with Superman, everybody knows about Clark Kent. He needs a good adaptation so that people can jump in and give it another chance. That or get into an Absolute title. Saw an uptick in Martian Manhunter love after how big the run got
>>
How would you make it so he gets a civillian identity to make him more relatable?
>>
>>152347006

I thought he did at one point.
>>
>>152346921
He is just kind of a dork without a lot of good non-comic appearances.
As a kid I really only liked him in Brave and the Bold.
>>
>>152346921
Because he can only talks to fish
>>
Everyone says Super Friends but it's not like anyone else came out of that unscathed and with dignity.
>>
>>152346921
Superfriends was the main culprit.
When you depict Aquaman without him being king of Atlantis, without his hot wife Mera, and instead have him mostly just on the surface with the Justice League, yeah he seems really lame. Like, lamer than the Wonder Twins lame.

Aquaman, comics-wise, is fucking awesome.
Beautiful and creative undersea vistas, fun monarchical drama.
A smoking hot blood-red-haired wife.
That's what makes him probably in my top 3 DC heroes. Along with Superman and Wonder Woman.
>>
I've bought a lot of Aquaman comics from the Rebirth and New 52 era from the 1$ comics bin at my LCS.
It's come to a point where I realize I already own a decent percentage of Aquaman's entire solo publication history by accident.
I think, when I have more disposable income, I might try to just buy all of them.

I mean there's, like, under 200 in total. If you exclude the Adventure Comics he features in, which I would.
There were 60ish from Pre-Crisis, around 60ish spread across multiple runs in the Post-Crisis, 60 New 52, 50 Rebirth, and I already have been buying the All-In comics.

On one hand, there's no reason to do this.
On the other hand, I could do this.
It's very tempting
>>
>>152346921
Super Friends is the main culprit for non-comic readers and casuals (can't really blame them).

Smallville made him a bit cooler by him blowing Clark out of the water during their 1v1 misunderstanding brawl in Season 5.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold also helped rehabilitate him a bit.

DCEU Aquaman was when things were starting to change a bit thanks to Jason Mamoa having alpha cred due to playing the King of the Horsefuckers on Game of Thrones but then it got derailed by WBDC doing what they do and Amber Heard torpedoing her own credibility in real time (similar to how Ezra Miller being a twisted freak made The Flash bomb--not helped with the babies in microwaves scene making it harder to separate the art from the artist since that is totally something Ezra would do)

TL;DR: Kind of, but more than 'taking themselves too seriously' the biggest mainstream adaptation featuring him for well over half a century was normies and casuals learning about him for the first time as "that guy who talks to fish and is useless out of water" because like Martian Manhunter in the DCAU Justice League overlapping powersets make them redundant outside of sea life communication and telepathy / intangibility which is what caused / exacerbated the issue further and cultural osmosis hammering the joke into the dirt that the general consensus became "Aquaman just sucks".
>>
>>152346921
In my 20 years of reading comics, I have never delved into Aquaman. He doesn't seem interesting to me.
When dealing with the sea, I like stories about boats flinging metal balls at each other and chasing big fish more than about undersea kingdoms and superheroics.

As others have said already, Super Friends gave non-comic book readers like me a bad first impression of Aquaman. Since I never read comics, my earliest exposure to comic book characters were comic book TV shows. With Super Friends being my first "Justice League" show, Aquaman seemed kinda honky compared to Supes, Wondy, and the Dynamic Duo. That impression finally began to change with The Enemy Below two-part episode of Justice League roughly 20 years later.

Fun Fact: It also took the Superman TAS for me to see finally get a good impression of Darkseid. Super Friends Darkseid didn't seem as imposing and menacing as the DCAU Darkseid was. Not trying to knock Hanna-Barbera, but comic book shows in the 90's came a long way from those in the 70's and 80's.

I think he was good during the Golden and Silver age, I'm not a fan of how modern versions either gave him a beard or removed one of his arms, seems like they're trying way too hard to make Aquaman look cool
>>
>>152346930
Yes, being in a popular show surely would make anyone a joke.
>>152346932
Retards like you are exactly the problem
>>
>>152346921
He's limited. Most people aren't on the ocean. The sorts of stories are limited of he's kept in the ocean and if he's away from the ocean then you ask "then why is he Aquaman?".
And as King of Atlantis he's too alien to be relatable but also not alien enough to be interesting
>>
>>152347983
>I mean there's, like, under 200 in total
>around 60ish spread across multiple runs in the Post-Crisis

That’s not even close to true newfag. He has a well over that just post crisis. Sword of Atlantis alone is 57 issues, that followed both a 39 and a 75 issue run and a handful of minis and a short 13 issue run. New 52 ran 52 issues, rebirth another 66 (though dont bother with the KSD issues) and now another 13

And no I wouldn’t exclude adventure comics (or more fun comics) at all. Why would you?
>>
>>152349300
Did you ever watch the show?
Aquaman's entire usefulness and powerset was reduced to summoning fish to do mundane tasks, and getting captured semi frequently.

The fact that no one could ever get into an actual fight or throw a punch in the late 70s to early 80s stuff meant no one was able to shine and they had to stick to Scooby level tricks to fight guys. Which usually mean ropes, dropping barrels on bad guys, and evil bear hugs from villains. Aquaman not being able to throw a punch at all and only calling fish to flop into faces made him seem kind of useless.

Since most kids knew what Batman and Superman were about they did not have the same problems. Also Flash and Green Lantern could be useful in whipping up Scooby style traps to stop bad guys. So they did not look nearly as useless. Batman and Wonderwoman used ropes and hog tied villains more often than not,
>>
>>152349202
>Super Friends Darkseid didn't seem as imposing and menacing as the DCAU Darkseid was
to be fair to SF darkseid, he was a fairly big step up in threat from the legion of doom
thats not a big step, but it was ultimately a show for literal children and that put a limit on what they could do
>>
>>152349300
Fucking Death Battle tried to find feats to make Super Friends Aquaman look cool
They couldn't
>>
>>152349416
He was also the villain that really corresponded to the typical Saturday morning cartoon villain type. He was an evil leader of some scary place with lots of minions he could send to go fight the Superfriends each week, had an evil scientist minion that made doomsday gadgets, and he could always shake his fist and portal back home when his schemes fell apart.
>>
>>152349202
Watching this episode for the first time last year was so weird to me.
Like, I get they were trying to make him look cool, but surely they could've had him control fish at some point.

DC characters are silly and derivative

I dont buy that excuse. All throughout history people have Atlantis stories and stories of kings. He's literally named King Arthur.

They need to do something like Nadia Secret of Blue Water or Atlantis (Disney) and add stuff like it being a lost super civilization and spaceship submarines or cute brown girls or something.
>>
Aquaman was always a lame ripoff of Sub-Mariner. He only lasted as long as he did because Mort Weisinger "created" (stole) him and Editor Mort Weisinger kept him as a backup in Adventure Comics, which Mort Weisinger edited, for twenty years.

His career got a boost in the 60s when, for some reason, Filmation chose him to be the star of their next series after "Adventures of Superman". Or maybe Mort Weisinger forced him on Filmation after they found out Batman's rights were tied up by the Adam West series.

But he's always been more a darling of the licensing department than the fans.

>That impression finally began to change with The Enemy Below two-part episode of Justice League roughly 20 years later.
Think this needs to be addressed more. I can say as someone who was a kid in that era that Justice League's depiction of Aquaman changed how kids felt about him practically over night. He went from who we thought of as being the 'lamest hero' that we only knew from reruns of Super Friends, to on grounds for literally the coolest hero of them all. Lots of kids at school were immediately saying Aquaman was their favorite and talking about how badass he was following his JL appearance.
>>
>>152350840
>It's a fucking shame the showrunners got banned/embargod/whatever from using Aquaman for the rest of the JL series. I dont remember the full story.
I wasn't aware of this. Particularly interesting because I've always felt it was surprising how little they used him and how much of a 'side character' he felt like considering how well-received he was.

They were making an Aquaman television show pilot and banned them from using Aquaman. They banned them from using Batman villians for a similar reason. A quick search says brand confusion and they didn't want to confuse kids due to concurrent projects. But Batman TAS had the live action Batman movies and comics going on. Was anyone ever actually confused as a kid? There must be a gas leak in the WB building.

It really stings now when we have had so many constant attempts at movie universes and so much random media and comics.

Also this is a real picture by the way.
>>
>>152352542
Oh god I just realized how bad Aquaman would look if they actually did this. People would just be calling him a gigantic queer twink. It would be even worse than Robin and Batman jokes.

I tried to find another picture to see how bad that show looked but I found this and jesus christ what the fuck did they do this time? I never even knew this was a thing. Everytime they make him cool (JLU, Young Justice's Aqualad, Jason Mamoa) it's like someone tries to ruin it on purpose.

He comes off significantly more limited when placed on the JLA next to Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern.

You got a guy who is super strong, but not nearly as super strong as Superman, J'onn, or Wonder Woman. Not as capable in a fight as Wonder Woman or Batman. He doesn't fly, or even own a flying vehicle so he is not as mobile as the other heroes. J'onn is a significantly better psychic than Aquaman with fewer limits...while also being a shapeshifting Superman clone. They outshine him so much that you do not really see his strengths since the rest of the team is actually better than him at the things he does best. He does not have any very specific talent that helps him stand out like Flash or Green Lantern. He is another strong punchy guy that is not as tough as most of the team and could die if he is out of water for too long.
Even underwater he is outperformed by most of the team.

Great he is King of Atlantis, but what does that mean in the context of a JLA story? Where does that ever come up or become useful? That's more of a solo book feature. He doesn't send armies to fight for him, he doesn't use Atlantean subs in any group context. It's no more of a thing than a GL calling up a few hundred more GLs to help the JLA, or Hawkman calling Thanagarian armies, or Batman getting all his Gotham sidekicks.
>>
>>152351093
Namor sucks.
He's just an asshole with a terrible design.
Aquaman isn't a 'ripoff' of Namor, Aquaman is just the completed product that Namor was the beta of.

>>152352606
What I don't get is why they'd fuck around with the colors.
Like this style isn't necessarily bad, but Aquaman is just off model.

>>
>>152355189
Seems like just about everyone since the mid 90s wants to make Aquaman into blonde Namor. An angry angsty guy that always punches first and is always declaring war on the surface every other week. It's especially true in the animation and film stuff.
>>
>>152357082
This is just plain bullshit
>>
>>152357082
>You got a guy who is super strong, but not nearly as super strong as Superman, J'onn, or Wonder Woman.
He has been shown as being on par with Wonder Woman on land, and capable of being any of them in the water.
>Not as capable in a fight as Batman
He has superspeed and super strength, he is way better at fighting than Batman just from that alone.
>Doesn't fly
His trident allows him to fly, and move across the planet at speeds far faster than any airplane
>Not as mobile as other heroes
He can swim or fly around the world in like an hour
>J'onn is a better psychic
Sure but, is Martian Manhunter going to be on literally every Justice League team? He is an OG, but he's also very obscure in comparison to even Aquaman.
>He does not have any very specific talent that helps him stand out like Flash or Green Lantern
He commands sea life, is a monarch, and is the most powerful DC character when in water.
>Even underwater he is outperformed by most the team
No.

>When would being king of 70% of the world's surface matter to a team of superheroes trying to defend the planet?

>>
>>152358236
Shut the fuck up already fanboy, Fanboying does not make any of that shit remotely true.

>He commands sea life, is a monarch, and is the most powerful DC character when in water.
...until the minute Superman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, or just any Green Lantern steps into the water. Then they become the most powerful superhero in the water.
>>
>>152357438
>>152357529
>>152358236
You are going to have to face facts here. Aquaman is a mid tier strong guy, works out in his own books and he stands out well enough. But when writers stick him into a JLA team book he is not great when constantly compared to everyone else. This is why Morrison constantly tried to play up his being a really super powerful psychic because he does not measure up to the team and it makes him look bad by comparison to readers.

Trying to
>But Akshully, if they were underwater...
means nothing because no one really cares. 99.999% of the time they are not going to be underwater so that's not really an argument.
Just like 99% of the time Aquaman does not have his trident with him at all, even in his solo books. So saying he kinds sorta can do thing thing he never ever does at all except maybe once in a decade is just comparing him to Sun Dip Superman when trying to one up a VS argument. It's meaningless.

This is not a VS argument so mentioning super rare powerups that never come along but once in a decade is not important. What is important is what readers see when they read a typical monthly book and make judgment calls. Or like answering the OP when asked why people consider Aquaman weak. This is why, he is very secondary on JLA which is where most people are introduced to him. Nobody is looking for some expert to tell them he has super special powerups when asking why do normies see him as useless.

>Death Battle
If you're looking to Death Battle then you're the biggest retard in this thread
>>
>>152358421
It's easier to say that most people do not consider swimming real good to be that cool of a superpower, or any level of animal communication. People see Superman or Flash and think super speed or flying is a lot cooler for a guy with the last name Man, in tights that punches giant robots.

Swimming good and communicating with animals seem like they work best for a YA novel type of thing where some teen has super special mystic type powers that seem cool for random adventures. Not fighting costumed bad guys on a superhero team. Makes for a fun adventure series or maybe a CW series, not really a costumed superhero. Most of the water guys seem to struggle to get some mainstream appeal. Not many care for Namor either. Arthur's story at its basic level is closer to a Harry Potter story, but water themed.
>>
>>152358300
I mean Superman, Martian Manhunter, okay maybe.
Depends on which version of these characters we're talking about.

But the Flash?
He can't run in the water.
Green Lantern?
He loses fights all the time when he's flying or in space, any version of them would just be out of their element.

Granted I don't think Aquaman should be involved with Justice League matters unless the issue is connected to the ocean somehow.
Not even just for the powers reason, but just narratively it's weird if a dude who's supposed to be a monarch is spending so much time hanging out on land fighting miscellaneous crimes.

But if we're talking about strength, Aquaman even on land is way stronger than many uncontroversial Justice League members.
Green Arrow, Black Canary, even Batman. Not even mentioning more niche leaguers like Blue Beetle or Firestorm or whatever.

>99% of the time Aquaman doesn't have his trident with him
The fuck are you talking about?
Don't act like you read his comics, because this is just wrong.
>>
>>152346921
His one hour out of water limitation lived with him a long time, and as noted Super Friends presented that to people in a very lame fashion alongside lackluster heroics.
>>
>>152358421
What you are trying to say is that he is very Hyper Specialized.

His character and powerset are geared towards one specific setting. And if you take him out of that setting he is lesser for it.
Take him out of that setting and pair him up with guys who are extra ordinary and he seems even lesser than that.
He needs to be the guy the JLA calls when something happens in the ocean. He does not need to be the guy they take with them to some random alien world or to go fight Brainiac over Metropolis. It's literally not his element.

>>
>>152361192
Pay attention to that second anon. It doesn't matter because he is far too specialized of a character that first time viewers or casuals only see him as the guy that swims and is only useful when there is some reason for a swimming guy.

When you stick a swimming guy on a team with four other people that are also strong, and can fly, and shoot lasers, and the other two guys have a garage full of vehicles they break out every third panel, the swimming guy looks pointless. And people in turn make fun of him.

Aquaman and Wonder Woman both share the same problem that their homes are not a natural place for superhero stories to take place like Gotham and Metropolis do, on top of them having royalty status there. Stories largely have to rely on them travelling elsewhere and being fish out of water (lol). This is detrimental to them long term because writers then treat Atlantis and Paradise Island as places where they just go see family or where a coup or disaster happens in order to stir drama. And of course residents of those places are basically treated as just armies for Diana/Arthur use as a plot device when they can’t singlehandedly do something or be everywhere.

Aquaman of course also suffers from the lol he’s lame baggage which has been fixed to a degree more recently but it’s an issue that keeps lingering because the character hasn’t been able to establish a healthy status quo and relies on gimmicks to remain relevant.

Because he fucking sucks?

Mera mogs him in every way.
>her personality is more entertaining and consistent
>she bounces off of other characters better due to having said stronger personality
>her design is better (her shade of orange and green don't clash like his do
>her backstory is also more compelling
>her powers are less cringe
>>
>>152363307
A big part of what made modern Aquaman comics work was the two of them together, it's absolutely baffling that DC's writers spent over 20 years trying to get Mera out of the picture or turn her into Arthur's crazy bitch ex.
>>
For all the shit he gets I was pleased to see this short scene in Family Guy

https://youtu.be/Bl8cS6oF27g
>>
>>152346930
I remember my little sister thinking the SF acronym stood for "Superman and Fishman".
>>
>>152363357
Silver Age writers didn't know what to do with her (lead weakness), later writers went full scorched earth, it took Blackest Night to put Mera on the map
>>
>>152346921
Somehow he only works well as a protagonist in a horror story.
>>
>>152361236
Well he still has flight via his trident and superstrength.
And he's a good fighter, so he'd likely be fine.
He could also take the fight more towards the tributaries of the Mississippi river to gain more of an advantage
>>
>>152362201
A lot of people only conceptualize superheroes as being on big team up books fighting to save the world, and don't consider how their actual books would actually be like.
I really like Aquaman because his stories are set underwater and the visuals are very pretty and creative
>>
>>152363307
>her personality is more entertaining and consistent
im gonna be honest with you anons
ive read all his new 52 and rebirth stuff and im not even sure what arthur’s personality even is
he mostly is just bland with some sternness and occasional insecurity when the writer feels like poking fun at him being a joke to the general public
>>
>>152362371
But if that's the case, why is his hair also green?
And more importantly, what's the point in making an Aquaman show if you are going to make Aquaman completely unrecognizable?
Like outside of the logo on the belt, if I say this character design I would assume it was of Poseidon or Neptune

There's none. She was "hysterical woman" 99% of the time, either because her kid was dead or because Arthur was cheating on her.

She did have a few funny panels though like her yelling at Arthur saying his weak genes killed their baby or pic related.

Johns basically rebuilt her and their relationship and saved the character.

He needs more King Shark stories. Did you know he started as a Superboy villain?
>>
>>152362126
What villains does he have other than Black Manta? Villains are just as important as a hero's design & setting.
>>
>>152348037
Momoa just made Aquaman into more of a joke cause he made Aquaman seem like a stupid surfer dude
>>
>>152361896
Try killing yourself casualfag.
>>
>>152361890
There was a minute when DC really wanted to turn Aquaman into Captain Planet and give speeches about clean oceans and pollution. Then a lot of his villains were guys that just dumped trash in the ocean, and had cyborg guards to protect themselves so they could dump more trash. It was kind of fucked up.
>>
>>152363357
There seems to be some kind of rule that no one is allowed to actually have a relationship in comics. Even characters that have a foundation in a relationship, writers just plain want to break that up real bad.

>They have been nonstop breaking up Hawkman and Hawkgirl since the mid 90s. The first actual superhero couple.
>Spider-Man is just not allowed to have a relationship no matter how many readers want it
>Cyclops is just not allowed to have a relationship no matter how many readers want it
>Aquaman and Mera are constantly broken up for forced drama
>Kyle Rayner is just not allowed to have a relationship
>>
>>152365597
Ocean Master, the token evil family member of his rogue gallery, is his only other decent one, but Johns went and made him a little too sympathetic so when he was finally used as a antagonist again in the Mera mini people hated it
>>
>>152362074
He does have basically indestructible bones.
>>
>>152365597

>>
>>152366042
I admit I dont know shit about Aquaman but I feel like I'm right and that's more important.
>>
>>152365784

>>
>>152357156
I dont think I could ever understand the taste of californian creators who do this shit. The colors weirdly remind me of Concord. If you dont what that is dont worry about it you're lucky.
>>
>>152365597
See>>152365421 for King Shark.
>>
>>152362151
My favorite Aquaman stories are the ones that are basically underwater fantasy/sword & sorcery stories (The Atlantis Chronicles, Sword of Atlantis). I think they should lean into that more.
>>
>>152366042
We are discussing why non-readers don't care about Aquaman.
We are listing reasons why they instantly dismiss him at a first glance
No one here is interested in powerlevelfags trying to convince anyone Aquaman can beat people up.
>>
>>152366177
They absolutely should.
>>
>>152346921
Him getting DC's highest grossing movie ever after years of dismissal is the definition of karmic justice.
>>
>>152362080
>Aquaman is just inherently lame of an idea without a strong hook
Nah. As a kid, this origin's opening calling him the ruler of two thirds of the Earth is such a cool, majestic introduction for him. It's a perfect angle. He's basically the ruler of most of the planet.
>>
>>152365421
I did actually
>>
>>152362151
wow this is incredibly dumb, the whole point of Wonder Woman is that she wanted to leave her island and do good in the modern world. Aquaman is also from both worlds and wants to help both. It's like saying Superman doens't work because he can only be at home in Krypton
>>
>>152366826
Horrible analogy
>>
>>152366713
Another anon said it works much better for a fantasy adventure story and not so much a superhero story. It really is Atlantis Harry Potter at best and could work out if told like that in a more fantasy setting, not really a superhero one.
>>
>>152367073
Dumb nigger it has BEEN working as a superhero setting for the last 63 years.
Looks like the problem is nothing but complaining non-reading non fan fags like You.

>>152362151
I agree retarded casualfaggots like yourself is indeed the problem with Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
>>
>>152367099
>it has BEEN working as a superhero setting for the last 63 years.

It really hasn’t. It’s why his books keep getting cancelled so often
>>
>>152366841
There is no difference, anon. Wonder Woman was never meant to have adventures on Paradise Island, her story begins with her wanting to leave it.
>>
>>152367148
You clearly don’t understand the critique.
>>
>>152367209
Because it's a dumb fucking critique that comes off as not reading many comics or getting the characters, anon.
>>
>>152367302
A lot of WW stories still take place at Themyscira. The fact that her most iconic location ends up being the thing she leaves and then constantly goes back to is a problem when it comes to lacking an organic hub around which stories can take place.
>>
>>152366177
I’m gonna start reading this one. I’ll let you know how it goes like it.

>>152347955

They should make a Justice League team that feels like a sword and Sorcery fantasy universe together. Combine Aquaman with Warlord and Amethyst and probably more I can't think of. Maybe put Aquaman on Kamandi's earth because that's pretty pulpy and adventure like and keeps Aquaman on Earth and would have more humans and no or less preexisting superheroes.

And speaking of sword and Sorcery I absolutely love Alex Ross' version of Aquaman. I can only find a full body picture of the toy though.
>>
>>152365942
See that's the problem. Ocean Master works only for the royal throne drama intrigue. If they had more of that with I dunno maybe other parts of the ocean being governed by other kingdoms & beings it could be more interesting.
>>
>>152368892
It should be like Dune, but underwater. Dune is a great template for actually interesting political/ royal intrigue.
>>
>>152369076
Yeah I could that.
>>
>>152369101
*I could see that
>>
>>152346921
I think the worst thing Aquaman suffers from is writer turnover and outside interference. There's tons of material but each new writer just ignores or tries to fuck things over for the next with some ridiculous new status que like "Atlantis is a democracy so Aquaman can't be king". Sometimes they even do the same plots without realizing it like the same evil dark dimension version of Atlantis has been done probably 4 times. Then you have assholes like Rucka who had Wonder Woman effortlessly destroy the Shaggy Man in two page after he was a major threat in an Aquaman arc or that Hawkman writer who turned the Scavenger (who had just had a redemption story in Aquaman) into a pedo so Hawkman could kill him.
>>
>>152370045
That's not universally an Aquaman problem though.
>>
>>152346921
bump
>>
>>152347931
Firestorm and Cyborg both made out pretty well.
Not to mention Darkseid, Kalibak, Desaad and everything Apokolips.
>>
>>152349551
>the originals are the derivatives
Opinion immediately discarded.
>>
>>152367073
So the last 7 decades of Aquaman working perfectly fine mean what to you?
Or is it you don't read comics and are lying right now?
>>
>>152370390
It is universally a Hawkman problem though. The last 5 runs were all retellings of the origin. Making it even more convoluted every single time.
>>
>>152372379
>7 decades
>working perfect fine
They wouldn't need to keep reinventing him or replacing him if Aquaman worked.
>>
>>152362819
Garth really got fucked over by the reboot. They took his wife and kids, and we don’t even know how he became an ocean wizard anymore considering Johns retconned the hell out of Atlan. Hell even his backstory has a question mark considering it hasn’t been referenced at all and Johns originally was going to introduce him as a baby.
He basically a complete blank slate.
>>
>>152346921
>Arthur and Tula both have Orm as an evil half brother
>Mera has an evil twin sister
>Garth has an evil uncle
>Jackson has an evil sister and an evil dad

DC comes to you and asks you to create a new villain for an Aquafam member they aren’t related to. Could you complete this task?
>>
>>152347006
Golden age Aquaman was a man named Aquaman. He went to college and got a degree as "Aquaman". No first name or surname, nuthin. Just a mononym
>>
>>152366459

>>152368536

>>
>>152369620

>>
>>152373271
Literally just pick a creepy undersea animal and make it a man or woman. Spidercrabman. Anglerfishwoman.

Also ghost skeleton pirates. Or ghost thing in an old timey diving suit that looks like the phantom space man from scooby doo.
>>
>>152374848
Fuck, there really hasn't been a ghost diving suit villain for him? Sounds so obvious when you wrote it.

>>
>>152380210
That's stupid because it would mean either his teeth or even his whole self would disappear if exposed to antimagic spells.
>>
>>152380269
I think he just would lose some strength and resilience.
>>
>>152372068

>>
>>152373271
Bring back Bugala the Sea-Dragon, but size him up a bit, make him intelligent, and play him as a sort of underwater Smaug.
>>
>>152346921
He needs more pirate villains.
Magic pirate villains.
I want to see some evil magic pirate in a Flying Dutchman that sails underwater.
>>
>>152373271
Since the Atlan origin is no more and nobody has explained how Garth became a wizard yet, I’d retcon in a sea witch who teaches him magic and maybe give him a homoerotic rival student. Give her purple eyes too and she’s evil cause she hates being cast out and treated horribly by the Atlanteans.
>>
>>152380372
Maybe mainline Darkseid is too considering how light Absolute Diana got off compared to everybody else in that universe.
>>
>>152382970
The sea witch could be Lisa Morel, the Golden Age Aquagirl since she had purple eyes
>>
>>152382520
He has plenty of pirate villains. They brought back Black Jack as hot lady a few years ago.

>>152384362
Perfect, nobody cares about Golden Age Aquaman to care about her character being different.

It may seem like it but not having her sisters back or that same solid foundation tears into her.

Aquaman only has the one Silver Age book right now. I'd say at least get the Bronze Age stuff then move on from there. I got Batman. I wanna get the Jack Kirby stuff for Etrigan & the New Gods, Blue Beetle, Plastic Man, & Doom Patrol.

You actually haven't read or watched anything with Aquaman. That's your head canon. He's topdog underwater in anything canon and plenty of times pre and post reboot has been able to hurt guys like Superman. You have no argument or examples. Even in animated stuff he slapped around Earth-3 Marvel family
