Feel like we did get some clues behind why, in Episode 6 it was show that he was on a prescription of LEX (Lexapro) which are antidepressant, so it's likely that Nate has been depressed and miserable when he was alive I mean he did say he joined 12 cults, which he probably did out of the attempt to find something to help him feel better. Nothing work so ending himself was his last restore.

That's good, it's weird how well the show just clicked. Likeable characters who aren't single note and explores them without making 'Very Important Episodes'. Humour is never crude or relying purely on shock and it seems willing to let characters have believable love-lives. Plus it seems to have some genuine heart to it without being mawkish. The writers also seem to genuinely like the genre they're paying homage to.

TLDR: it just seems to avoid all the shit that most "adult animation" on streaming services suffers from and just has good writing

Honestly kind of fits with her dad lore, esther is ok with her family thinking she's fucked up because they'll accept her but she seems to be desperate for external approval from none main family members. Aka school mates and dad, basically forming toxic and over looking red flags in relationships. Like with the whole dan thing and well him being a rotting zombie also the possession as you mentioned.

Esther probably would get mean girl'd, and it'd hurt her 1000x worse than ben honestly. Ben seems to accept his nature and faults a bit to much to a bit nihilistic level. But Esther seems to be egotistical and tries to face all things with confidence and ego. Like when heather became her friend instead of just saying wow thanks she talked down to her a bit. Implying it meant a lot but her ego is to fragile to admit how much she needs a friend and connection like her worrying about abaddon in the finale and asking him for help.
