I think it's so funny that the internet has figured out between this and Fixed that Genndy's whole "thing" is birthing and generational legacy. Now I just watch all of his projects seeing it turn into that every time.

It's pretty fucking yuge
I haven't gone in depth looking but it might be near on the scale of the giant redhorn from the first episode of the show
That said it does seem old, slow, and *ahem* rather encumbered. Fang would probably dancer circles around it and rip it apart piece by piece

Speculation:
Mother Pig is the catalyst for his memories being restored.
Big cave area
Small servant creatures to a much larger creature
Children in peril, both human AND dinosaur possibly assuming the Fang kids join them
It's a perfect recreation of the day that Fang and Spear first met.
It will not only restore Spear's memories, but snap Fang out of her current hatred for Zombie Spear as they both briefly relive that moment. Only this time, they succeed in saving the children.

This is already an animated Conan series.
>Heroic barbarian going on adventures and owning everything due to sheer willpower
>Anachronistic setting where every historical period seems to co-exist in the same time
>Theme of savagery being the natural state of humanity
>Civilization being just as, if not even more brutal

It literally lasted ten minutes and only the apes fought, I mean something like in the movie, with Spear forced to fight for the amusement of a crowd. I suppose the Colossaeus arc kind of counts in that regard.
Also, I don't tink those things were babies, but adults who want crack milk without themselves being dinner.

It could be a dig towards those who think San and Moro can beat Spear and Fang, by making them kill a pastiche of the most powerful non-divine (the animal gods weren't really gods) character in the movie.

Deponia was originally a triology with a downer, almost shitposty ending where the main lead dies. A lot of people didnt care for this ending. Then they developed an entire fourth game that saves him at the start but its actual purpose was to call the player fucking stupid for being upset at the ending and recommitting to it. Literal spite game.
I dont think genndy would do that really, but I could see him fucking up in other ways.

What I liked the most is that the warriors weren't cannon fodder. Sure, they died, but they killed a few hellpigs each before being killed. Also, going by the two priests' reaction, voodoo is a bad juju thing here.

Someone in the last thread pointed out the scenario in the next ep sort of follows the same beats of the first episode (child endangered by a pack of predators led by their mother) and that might trigger most of Spear's memories since he's relieving that experience (except this time he gets to save the kid).
Taken literally, maybe he literally casts no shadow. Spear had a habit of telling stories with his shadows because it reminded him of the good times with his old family, now that's gone.

This may be my inebriated mind struggling, but does Shaman belong to Mira's village? If so, does this mean getting decimated by the skull-heads happened entirely while she and the others were out hunting the piggies?
I think I'm just thinking too hard about the timeframes involved.
>>
>>
>>
>>152350557
that's a good question, I want to say no but they immediately knew what to do to neutralize his magic staff so maybe he actually is. After all, why the fuck would he seek to resurrect this random dead neanderthal if he didn't already know that he was a hero?
Maybe he wanted to control who his people saw as a strong hero or something?
but no I think he's been dead for a while
> mira and spear have one final tryst
> spear dies and is intombed
> months pass
> shaman digs up half-rotten spear
> resurrects spear hoping to harness his powers maybe? season 3 begins, necro-spear goes on journey
> mira, a few good months along, witnesses the hogs attack
> necro-spear does a really big loop
> mira and the warriors find the dead shaman
> necro-spear finally makes it back to where this all began
so we're back at square one.
I think anon's prediction of
> spear and fang recognize each other
> go out in a blaze of heroic glory saving the villagers
> boy points out the hogmother only wants to feed her children too
> poignant lesson about the circle of life
> once the hogs are successfully driven away, mira gives birth
> the child grows to be the only one that the little dinos allow to ride them, protects her village just like her papa
good end. honestly I'd love a season after this about her
>>
You guys need to remember spear spent like days wandering about
He meets with the gang the same night they go out to hunt the piglets.
The shaman also dresses differently then the usual folk in Mira's village right? That would mean he is from somewhere else
>>
>>
>>
>>152350892
Yeah and who don't resemble mira's tribe right?
I subscribe to the idea that multiple villages came to see the funeral of the guy that fought a fire demon and won by technicality

I like how the show just introduces all these monsters and giant animals and demons because they realised that the dinos were the main appeal of the setting and leaving them behind left them without cool nonsters for Spear and fang to fight

I don't know that dounds selfish of her
I much more believe the idea that she either didn't saw the kid as spear worthy or then judt didn't want her kid to go down the same route she did because it's dangerous
Fang is consistently shown to be a strict and protective mother

Given the outfit Ima made Mira wear that gave Spear a turn-on, I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to force herself on her and got violent when she resisted.
>>
>>
>>
So if I get the timeline straight.
>The big tit pig babies attack the village and kidnap people,
>Mira and all the best warriors in the village go out on a rescue mission
>Skullmonkies use this chance to fuck shit up
>Village Shaman then revives spear and gets his revenge
>Shaman dies and the spear wanders aimlessly for a few days then finds Mira and Fang while they are hunting the titty pigs
This makes sense only if Mira and the group were out hunting for the tit pigs for at least two weeks which I suppose is possible. Spear probably became more focused on finding fang after killing the Chuds

Revenant Spear earns the begrudging trust of Mira and Fang as they recognize some part of him is still in there after he saves them and they put together that the visiting shaman faggot snuck into their village and stole him from their grave. Spear also gets his gets his body mangled by pigs.
>episode 5
The remaining party make their way to the pig nest while helping Spear regain his memories. Spear loses an eye.
>episode 6
Spear and Fang start fighting together again after rescuing Mira and the remaining warriors. Spear gets his throat ripped out by an animal.
>episode 7
The remaining hunters die and Spear's basically on his last leg (literally) as they approach the pig nest. Spear gets his chest torn open.
>episode 8
Mira's water breaks at the mouth of the pig nest and Spear fucking dies. Mira gets captured while Fang and her kids are forced to retreat while being chased by the swarm of pigs
>episode 9
Spear fights the devil who has come to make him an offer. He agrees seeing Mira and Fang in peril. Spear comes back to life as a spooky mr skeltal.
>episode 10
Spear rescues Mira, the captured tribesmen and Mira gives birth. As part of the deal, Spear almost gets pulled into Hell until the Moon God personally ascends Spear into the stars as an immortalized champion of her people.

IMO Fang thought that riding a dinosaur was a privilege that had to be earned, and she didn't think the kid was worthy to ride on her offspring. Fang had allowed Spear to ride on her because they had shared important struggles together. The kid had not done anything similar.
I don't feel like the scene needs a flashback. It works fine as it is. Most people in the audience already know Spear and remember how he bonded with Fang.
Still, I suppose the lack of dialogue grants enough ambiguity to allow your interpretation as well.

I binged season 2 and got caught up to season 3, but I have one question: was the flash-forward ending of Season 2 kind-sorta retconned with season 3? Obviously SE3 is meant to take place in-between Spear dying and that future, but something about it doesn't exactly fit correctly to me
>>
>>152353367
>was the flash-forward ending of Season 2 kind-sorta retconned with season 3?
There's nothing to suggest that so far. People are speculating that we might see it again at the end of this season but it'll pan out further and show Spear alive and with the group again.

It's based off of Genndy saying that a potential season 4 could be about Spear and Fang. So that means
>Spear is fully resurrected

>some kind of midquel happens or we get alternate timelines

Spear was buried at the shaman's village, which is not the same as Mira's village. That's how Mira's party could have left their village, travel for a while, and come across the site of the episode 1 massacre.

This is the first shot of Mira's village back in S2. In S3, the shaman cries about the destruction of his people, looks at the huts on the cliffside with a wide-eyed face, then switches to angry determination and starts preparing the voodoo ceremony to revive Spear.
The cliffside huts were apparently untouched by the attack of the skullguys. The shaman's hut seems to have a different style compared to the huts in Mira's village. I think they're neighboring tribes that have a lot of contact with each other.
Since the shaman had direct vision to Mira's village, her people must've been able to see the destruction in the shaman's village too. Maybe they didn't see or hear it immediately since it was the nighttime and everyone was asleep. Even if they did, maybe they wouldn't have had enough time to run and help them. But I assume they would've at least noticed the fire and smoke in the morning.
Since it wasn't mentioned in the flashbacks, I guess the skullguy attack and Spear's revival took place after Mira and the others had left their village.
Still, I don't remember how many day-night transitions there have been, and how much time Spear has spent wandering around compared to how long Mira's group had spent on their hike. Not sure if the timelines match.

His point is there are two kinds of zombies. There's the original meaning from Haitian folklore (a dead person is reanimated with voodoo magic so that he can be used as a servant/slave), and then there's the modern Hollywood movie zombies (an illness, infection or other phenomenon turns dead humans into mindlessly violent monsters who attack and feed on living people).
Spear is the original type of a zombie, and the latest episode even kinda mentioned it. The sauropod was a modern type. It had unique symptoms that didn't match with some other zombie stories, but that's okay since fictional zombies don't have to work the exact same way in all stories.

I took “good end” in the in-universe sense rather than how to view it as a show that was watched. Sure it does its job leading up to ROTS well enough but it isn’t really an ending in its own right

>though I do think there are some caveats.
Minimal ones.
Namely, the design department would have to be extra careful not to use visual elements that come from adaptations/illustrations that are not in the public domain yet.
Kind of like how Treasure Island (the book) is in the Public Domain, but you can't make a new adaptation that has the exact same costumes as the Disney adaptation, or even more obviously you can't take anything from Treasure Planet just because it's also an adaptation of the public domain work.
That being said, most of the stuff in Conan the Barbarian is so generic at this point due to the sheer number of things that copied it (plus how it coexisted with all sorts of other similar things like Tarzan, John Carter, even Flash Gordon etc) that it would be hard to argue that anything in a Conan adaptation is directly infringing on copyright.

>Everything has to eat, anon.
Subjective morality be damned. If a swarm of giant pigs came into my village to kidnap men, women, and children to feed to their queen like a bunch of voracious fucking ants, I'd call them evil too. It's in their nature to kill and eat, but Fang obviously shows the intrinsic difference between being a blind devourer and a methodical hunter. The former isn't tenable and sustainable and that's what so many of the monsters and beasts in their world are, and the remaining few of the latter need to work together to keep the former at bay and back to the dark pits from whence they came.
Point being, even wolves and lions know not to hurt humans for fear of extreme and ruthless retribution and that's the natural order of things.

Fang is a special case. Remember Red didn't give a fuck about raiding and eating human villages. If something can get away with eating people, it will until it can't anymore. That's where Spear, Fang, et. al come in to kick their asses, and then the pigs will switch food sources and leave human settlements and dinos alone.

Didn't one of them suffer from a severe injury that made hunting non-human prey unfeasible?
I personally don't put too much stock in the idea that any animals, except maybe Orcas, refuse to hunt us for fear of retribution or consequence. Most animals just don't have the faculties for that level of cause and effect. I don't think that preying on people is some aberrant behavior in predators, I think it's just less common now because the ones that saw us as normal food didn't get to pass their genes down, kind of like the selective breeding that removed human-directed aggression from dogs, but on a less direct scale.
But we're never exempt from the food chain. We're just as made of food now as we were back then, and I think too many people downplay how potentially dangerous predators are on account of us "not being their normal food". Meat is meat, an animal does not care where it gets the meat.

From what I understand the ones that do hunt us once tend to take up man eating because they realize how easy prey we are. We're not even as aware as other prey animals.

So wait, they found the dead guy who revived Spear? Was Spear's body just left somewhere very far away from where they lived? I thought it was the same place they stayed, but judging by how long they marched and that the place was uninhabited in episode 1 it must have been some other cliffside settlement.

I think the consensus from the last thread is that the voodoo priest is from another tribe, which is what got wiped out by the skull dudes, not Mira's tribe. maybe both tribes use the same burial site? or maybe he just has relatives in that tribe
>>
>>152356894
But this is the first ever episode where we see an enemy predator explicitly nurse her babies, which we haven't seen beforehand. And putting that alongside Mira's pregnancy and Fang's offspring gives it a common theme beyond than just being part of the food chain.

I think it's pretty clear he brushed it off because he DIDN'T get what it was all about. He's a caveman, and a big part of season 2 is how alien these civilizations are, including religion. For a long time it wasn't known if neanderthals were spiritual creatures or not, it's only somewhat recently we knew they had burial practices and religions of their own. In fact I remember it being thought that neanderthals struggled with more abstract thought in general.

I think it was just really failing to feed itself well.
If I recall, despite its size, it was less than half the weight that a healthy adult brown bear from that region was supposed to be. Only like, 300 pounds or so?
The telling of the story that I saw started with it raiding sheds for food and turning to maneating later.

I was confused by that too, maybe they just shared a funeral site, though wouldn't
Mira's village have seen the shamans being fucking destroyed? Maybe they can't do fucking anything if they see another village being destroyed
>>
>>152358344
i think the implication is simple, Mira's village was just boar'd and is low on manpower, maybe didn't even have anyone besides women/children/a handful of warriors there at all. We don't see any other people on the walk shaman takes to Spear's tomb, it's possible that even if they did see it, they had so few people to fight that the game plan went from "help your neighbors" to "turn off your lights and hide". Regardless of why it was empty/unable to help, Shaman wants revenge, whether Mira's people snubbed him or not is an afterthought.

Judging by how long Spear has been wandering the wilds vs how quickly Mira's village formed a rescue squad, it looks like the shaman's village got attacked days before Mira's village.
Spear: one night spent staring at nothing after killing the apemen, one night with the lepers, one night with the worm, one night with the molemen
Mira and Fang: village got attacked the first night, maybe one night to decide who goes to save the fat kid? if they didn't decide right after the pig attrack, pig attack the next night and then Spear

I enjoyed Primal Theory in a vacuum but the final episode badly needed to be two parts part and Primal Theory is very blatantly sitting in the spot of that episode in season 2. I think the fire guy shows up, fights spear, mira fucks spear, and the show ends in the span of 5 minutes. Should have just saved that one for later and done the finale proper.

So, the shaman lives in a separate village thats in viewing range of Mira's. Yet when savages burned it down, Mira's people did nothing. Furthermore, the shaman then resurrected Spear, and no in the village heard or saw anything? Particularly Fang?

Yeah, I don't see why'd they still be angry at each other if there was enough time for him to lose an arm and then have it sewn back on.
Maybe it will be a comedic bit, Fang is mistrustful of Spear and Spear pisses her off because he has no tact as a zombie. Fang attacks him and bites his arm off, Mira intervenes and stops her, reattaches his arm and then they go right back to yelling at each other.
>>
>>
>>152359948
>Yeah, I don't see why'd they still be angry at each other if there was enough time for him to lose an arm and then have it sewn back on.
Eh, I can see a couple things.
Like, none of the flashbacks that Spear had up until this point actually featured his new waifu. He had flashes of losing his original family, and a lot of flashes of Fang, so in this zombified state he'll probably be attached to Fang, but maybe (especially if the random tribal no namers spill their sphagetti and attack Spear) he'll show more animosity towards the humans.
Like sure, Spear, even Zombie Spear is gentle at heart, but it doesn't take a lot to end up on his shitlist, especially if he doesn't understand a situation, so I could easily see something like:
>Spear and Fang get separated from the rest of the humans, most of whom were dicks to Spear
>it's clear the humans are being hunted by something, but Spear already has is Fangfu, so he wants to just fuck off
>Fang channels the powers of a single mother to chew him out for abandoning the family he doesn't even know he has
>>
>>152360068
Wasn't his very first flashback triggered when he saw the scorpion? He hasn't really seen anything else that would remind him of a human woman and the connection between a scorpion and his memory of Mira is probably just too big a gap for his zombie brain to make.
>>
>>
>>152353937
Makes sense
In hunter-gatherer times, people just moved around a lot, but they still had their religious sites where they congregated to do rituals and shit
Shaman could be living in some sort of caveman-vatican, where they burried their heroes, while Mira's tribe lived in the mountains nearby

Nothing makes sense so far in the season. You'd think if there was a fire, regardless if there were 2 villages, the scale of the fire should have been enough to make it everyone's concern but it didn't. Mira, Fang, her babies, and the rest of the villagers go on like nothing happened despite the massive fire being 20 steps away.
>>
>>152360639
It's all the damage and the lack of bodies. For that amount destruction to a village of that size, shouldn't there be a lot of bodies or body parts scattered around? Instead there was that one apeman. And apemen don't even use arrows, but there were also arrows around.

Multiple villages all within a days walk of each other that share culture and a burial site.
>>
>>
>>
>>152360761
yeah this works. I think my misinterpretation has been that the tombs aren't a dedicated area, but that it was one of the villages that happens to have a burial site in the back. If there's a central tomb area that you'd only ever go to during a burial, it makes sense that he never bumped into anyone else, I was imagining he had to walk through Mira's village to get there.

>>
>>152360761

Yeah honestly, given all the pomp they gave to Spear, how they just put him in a cave but we don't really see many other graves like his (which is to say, there's a bunch of holes in the wall in that area, but they might be natural, there's only a couple that seem to have stairs/path built to them, I wouldn't be surprised if this was their culture's equivalent of 'The Valley of the Kings', basically a sacred site that exists only t
Alternatively the relatively unprotected nature of the place might carry an element of Sky Burials, where it's expected that the bodies will be eaten by animals thus 'return to nature', what with how Spear's tomb didn't even have a door, so they might not have few paths because few people are buried there, but because few locations are needed.

Probably missing some but from the top of my head
>playing dead to trick the man bats to carrying her into their layer
>nearly breaking the witch’s mind control spell because she heard spear
>the many instances of spear and fang seemingly communicating specifics to one another, most notably breaking Mira’s slave bindings
>figuring out how to act as a motor for the raft using her tail
>going into a deep state of grief after losing her mate
>understanding the hostage situation her eggs are in
>observing and learning how to use a battering ram
>reacting to the senseless slaughter of that Hindu village with disgust
>watching spear’s funeral in tears
>figuring out Mira’s pregnancy and reacting with joy
>joining the rescue party without anyone letting her know or prompting her
A lot of these demonstrate things like tool use and abstract thought. Which very few animals are capable of. And the last three are from the most recent episode.

Okay but only because as a nerd, I must accept all challenges. Because at this point I'm quite ready to concede that you're right
>playing dead
literally possums do it, one of the dumbest animals. Snakes, too. But the part about using it as a plan, yeah that is a bit different.
>breaking mind control
easier the more mindless you are. depending how the magic works
>communicating specifics like breaking bindings
totally forgot about that, so you are dead right
>tail motor
ditto
>deep state of grief
ehhh, elephants do it. But that definitely places her very high on the animal intelligence list.
>understanding hostage situation
this one really did surprise me, I feel like most of it was her listening to Spear. if Spear is not fighting, then "the pack" has decided to not fight, and the babies are still okay, so...
that said, after one of them was killed, I expected Fang to go totally berserk, so you have a strong point there. Gauging current losses against future losses is something most PEOPLE can't do
>monkey-see monkey-do-ing a battering ram
nah that's dog-n-cat stuff. even mice. and especially birbs
>reacting with disgust
eh debatable but disgust is still pretty universal.
>spear's funeral
really surprised on that one. Not sure how she'd grok the concept.
>figuring out pregnancy
eeaasy. Animals are better at that than we are. Though it's funny she sees her as -gravid- and starts digging a nest for the 'egg'
>joining the rescue party
eh, pack mentality. She definitely has elements of a wolf, a lion, an elephant, and a crow. but there are moments that show she's surpassing even dolphins and chimps, so.. y'know pretty good. then again I saw a chimp playing minecraft, so

Whilst you could see Fang as only a simple mount who follows Spear, time and again she shows obvious sapience and human-like emotion. Just in the first episode we see her going through the same emotional process Spear did after losing his family, and then in the second episode we see obvious tension as both compete against each other as the primary breadwinner, she emotionally shuts down after Red dies... One could argue that it's a stylistic choice that only makes her (and plenty of other non-humans) appear that way, but Primal IS a fantasy after all.

those guys are REAL hostile. it's amazing how fucking Peter Jackson this world is, where somehow, the majority of lifeforms are just based around random slaughter. they really, REALLY care about killing stuff, even when it shouldn't matter to them e.g. a grasshopper. Most creatures ignore that they are obviously outclassed until their alpha is taken down, IF EVEN then, there's ZERO fear of humans in any creature.. it's a nasty place.

I think the chuds overreacted to the grasshopper because they have extremely sensitive hearing and its high pitched chirping was like nails on a chalkboard to them. But they were also really aggro in general so it's hard to be sure. Either way it was hilarious how much effort they put into trying to murder it.

I interpreted it as a combination of she was still processing the trauma of losing Spear and also being protective. She sees being rode as something that ultimately leads to greater violence and perilous situations, she doesn't want them thinking theyre tough shit and sneaking off to fight some wild animal when nobody is looking.

it's not grimdark, it's just.. a profoundly dangerous setting. The setting itself is the major antagonist, like in King Kong. To the point that you're amazed anything manages to be alive with everything killing everything all the time. a world of violence

Scenes like this probably had a lot to do with it, but I think most have just accepted that the one with the red head is female and the one with the horn is male.
