considering that Channel Frederator pretty much didn't make it out of the 2010s the same channel, did it end up being alright that her show didn't get picked up?

Fred did right by her. It seems like the plan was to produce the show with his new venture, Fred Films, but he was trying to wait out the current industry trend of not green lighting any original IPs. He unfortunately ended up retiring before being able to release ANY shows or films through Fred Films, but he put out a book of Elyse's summoning comics before calling it quits.
I can't blame the guy. He's just shy of 75. It sucks that the end of his career had to be at such a lame period in animation. Fred was a real champion of the "creators first" ethos.
At this point, with Fred out of the game, I'd be surprised if we ever actually got a show for The Summoning.
I think it's better that the summoning stay a pilot and comic than be bastardized by some execs who just don't get it, but I think it sucks that we never got to see this come to fruition. Elyse has some fun ideas and I think with some experience, she could have worked out any issues that people had from the pilot.

Claire finds a spell that lets her enlarge things which she abuses on things around her house, such as making her bed and tv bigger. When she tries to make a mirror bigger, the spell is reflected on to her which causes her breasts to grow out of control. There's no way to undo the spell so she remains busty for the rest of the show.

I hate this type of creator/ character with a passion.
>>
>>152356475
She's unapologetically goth. She performs actual spells and has an inverted pentagram on her head. She's not some faggy Harry Potter "boarding school for witches" bullshit, nor does she sing or try too hard to be le edgy like Hazbin bullshit.
Claire is a goth character written by an actual goth chick who has a sense of humor about herself. Most of the times these types of characters are either written by people who have no idea what they're doing but just want a "dark" character, or they're created by some musical theater dork who thought goth kids were cool in high school, but were way too candy-assed to walk the walk.
There were issues with the pilot episode of The Summoning, but overall, Claire feels like a real character instead of some caricature of a goth which is what makes her fun.
>>
>>152356475
Say I'm an artist and I want to make money because if I have to wake up at 7:45 for work one more time I'm killing myself.
If I draw my goth catgirl OC, I'll get buried, but if I draw claire I'll get everyone who clicks the Claire_(The_Summoning) tag and comes across my art.
It kind of snowballs like this for a few characters like her or Lord Dominator.

I think you're over analyzing it, she's a perfectly imperfect cutie patootie. She's not smart and she gets frustrated which humanizes her and makes her relateableand cute
>>
>>152357732
Not really. Claire is a thinly veiled insert for Elyse (the artist). Claire complaining about being burned out as a witch is Elyse complaining about being burned out as an artist. The comics are all very much rooted in reality.
She's humanized and relatable because she's based on a real person (who is actually a goth/witchcraft practitioner in real life).
>>
>>152357640
it was kind of dumb, but I'll give it a pass since it was a pilot. It still had a lot of heart.
The comics show that her writing vastly improved over the years. Sucks that we probably won't get a show.

the episode needs to end with a stinger. Perhaps Claire has spent weeks working on a potion and is just about to finish when her license expires and she needs to renew. She has a horrible time at the DMV while Edgar has the time of his life, but he accidentally ends up fucking up her potion in the meantime.
Claire returns home to FINALLY finish her potion when she discovers what Edgar did, requiring Claire to restart the weeks-long process. Claire loses her temper, cut scene, roll credits.

Claire goes to a witch convention to show off her cool potions, Edgar signs her up for like some kind of witch beauty contest she finds really repulsive and there's some kind of grave consequence for not winning, so she has to find some way to look like the hottest girl there with magic. The spell fails in the middle and everyone goes crazy for normal Claire.

Edgar feels guilty and tries to help Claire, but ends up fucking up her spell. Everyone goes crazy for normal Claire, but through a fluke, Edgar becomes one of the contestants and since he's not a winner, must suffer the grave consequence for not winning.

Claire is sick of Edgar constantly getting into her stuff, not doing chores that he'll promise he'll do, and overall acting like a little shit. She creates a spell/potion so that Edgar will have more motivation to actually listen to the things that Claire tells him to do. As long as she only uses 1/2 part wormwood, the spell will help influence Edgar to be more mindful but still give him free will. Unfortunately, earlier in the day, Edgar (in a rush to half-assedly "clean" the kitchen) knocked two herb bottles off of Claire's shelves and instead of cleaning up properly, shoveled both ingredients into the bottles indiscriminately and put it back on the shelf. As a result of the wrong ingredients, the spell backfires and puts Claire under the *completely* influence of Edgar. Edgar is initially apologetic, but once he realizes that Claire is unable to resist his commands, he goes drunk with power.
Edgar doesn't realize that the spell wears off after 24 hours and in due time, Edgar attempts to order Claire to perform yet another ridiculous duty only to realize that she's no longer under his control and is extremely mad at him. She approaches him to exact her revenge just before the scene cuts to black.
>>
>>152367195
potential B-plot could be related to breaking the spell. Perhaps Claire sends a hapless physically disadvantaged courier to deliver a message to a fellow witch friend to help. The B-plot is watching this character mange their way through the treacherous woods to get to the next town.
>>
>>152352774
Claire in an attempt to clean up her house summons a little demon, but it's way too small to actually do anything so in frustration she summons an actual "big" demon. Except she kind of uses a spell that has a different meaning of "big" and summons the big guy himself, literally Satan, who she gets a crush on. Hilarity ensues.
>>
>>
>>152367868
that's a good one. You could get a lot of mileage out of gags involving the little demon failing to do the most basic bidding.
To bring it around, maybe "the big demon" eventually becomes problematic, but the little demon is able to save the day.

wholeheartedly disagree. Super bimbo versions of Claire are pretty easy to find, but the character is canonically pretty petite. I dont want to shit on the original creator too much but the art here is sort of mid. All she can draw is the same front standing shot with her characters.Just like me. So can I make a popular pilot now too huh can I?
>>
>>
>>152373968
1) these are really early drawings. Her style has evolved over time and the book she released shows a more sophisticated style (though still pretty basic, but you'll get the occasional profile or 3/4 view)
2) you don't need to be fantastic at drawing to create a show. Some people don't even draw at all. Elyse at least designed her characters and wrote the story (and her pitch deck shows she did some rudimentary storyboarding as well) but ideally you'll have a team of people who can help fill in any gaps you may have. In Elyse's case, her pilot was funded by Channel Frederator. It might be harder if you don't have financial backing so either make friends with other artists and get them excited about your idea, do a crowdfund and try to get the public excited about your idea, or start honing your skills and go it alone.
3) For the comic, the most important thing is getting the idea across. XKCD draws fucking stick figures. You can make it work.
>>
Drawfug is everything I wish I could be. Not only draws on model, but manages to capture the essence of what he's drawing. These drawings feel in character, despite only one pilot. Moreover than that, they are funny. He has a good sense of humor taking anons pitch ideas and being able to take that and run with it to make a good doodle. I respect his skill and how he interprets things. Thank you for your service.

Being an anti-social loner but a person who wants to tell a story via animation might just be the worst combo ever. Like I know its all about connections but that social contact is exhausting.

Claire gets her hands on an old, semi-rare grimoire, but due to the book being written in a time where there was no standardization of measurement and its abundance of outdated names for ingredients, she's forced to wing most of the listed formulas within.
>"Okay, so 3 frikins of water, 6 pottles of spoiled lupulus, a cake of grave yeast, a scant half stone of sugar, and a... squee of greyroot?"
These results in a potion of spontaneous decomposition coming out as a watered down ale, a temporary love potion becoming a permanent laxative, and a few protoplasmic horrors with eyes and mouths that shift in and out of existence from what was supposed to be the equivalent of Pepto Bismol.

If it makes you feel any better, the types of people you'd be making connections with largely feel the same way. Most creatives are introverts, but some can mask better than others.
It's hard at first when you really don't know anyone at all, but once you make a few connections, it tends to get easier.

how about an episode about claire cutting but she gets in trouble while Swan is treated to the front of the line with no consequences. Claire is frustrated and cuts herself some demonic herb in the forest to brew an elixer of revenge. When she drinks the potion it immediately backfires as the herb demon she killed gets its revenge by haunting her. Tormented by the sins of her past she decides to sever her hand at the wrist only to discover the demon just really wanted her to feel its pain then moves on. Claire only has 1 hand for all future episodes and the emotional weight of that matters just like in adventure time
