Sort of related but do you think Fred and Velma just hang out independently too? Like they’ll do actual X-Files style mysteries

Daphne's redesign in 13 ghosts is very cute.
>>

She looks like a weed dealer. He looks like a babushka.
>>
Shaggy/Velma feels like the least compatible coupling in the group.
>>
>>152364801
Both Fred and Velma and Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby had supernatural encounters. And still do when it’s those two groups specifically, it’s just when it’s all five is when it’s usually the guy in the mask

The sad thing is that Shaggy and Fred clearly don't hang out and are just connected via the girls being mutual friends

Well isn’t that clever.
>>
>>152363757
So long as we get some Velma/Fred, I'm okay with it. Those two are severly underrated together.
>>
>>152364697
Fred and Velma clearly have a lot in common, I'm surprised it's something that's never really touched on. They're basically always the two that are super invested in mysteries.
>>
>>152363757
Honestly, if she hadn't said "shaggy" in that first panel i would have no idea who the fuck these characters were supposed to be. I know Swain has a serious case of sameface syndrome but sometimes it seems like he doesn't even try to make them look right.
>>
>>152363757
I must say, I'm really enjoying Swain's take on Daphne as a girl with a crush.
She's adorable.
>>
>>152365700
I can't disagree on the sameface syndrome, but come on anon, all of Daphne's major character design marks are also there.
>>
>>152365804
You know lots of people have red hair, yeah?

>tfw no Shaggy and Fred bro-ops

>>
>>152365824
>all of Daphne's major character design marks
You do know red hair is just one of them, right?
>>
>>152364801
Fred's gun should be mentioned, it's a valid part of the group but mostly just stays in the Mystery Machine as a well wisher.
>>
>>152363757
So when does he put a dog collar on her and start feeding her Scooby Snacks?
>>
>>152366307
The gang gets pulled over

She was chosen
>>
>>152366458
>Say "officer" if you want me to shoot out way out of here
>>
>>152365925
Fred drives Shaggy to his track meets and afterwards they go out for food. Usually a sports bar for wings so Fred can watch any games on, Shaggy gets as many wings as he wants, and to just shoot the shit
>>
>>152366458
>>152366488
Well it WAS the 60/70's, everyone had guns in the glovebox then. Cops would just give you a bigger fine if you had it on display.
>>
>>152363757
I really love Swain's art style. He tells good stories too.
>>
>>152366513

Fred wears an ascot, there are no "games" for Fred, only one game, which is Polo.

>The only viet I wanna destroy is a bahn mi, zoinks!
>>
>>152366697
Would be hard to do, Shaggy's home address is wherever the Mystery Machine is. A letter could be sent to his parent's house, sure, but it wouldn't do any good if he's never there. Shaggy and the gang are essentially transients.
>>
>>152366892
Also, truancy officers were a thing in those days, Mystery Inc. would have them on their ass depending on situation.
>>
>>152366307
>Fred's gun
Is this real?
>>
>>152366958
Anyone who has ever worn bell bottom jeans on the regular, owns a gun.

When I was kid watching the 1980s seasons, I figured that Daphne and Shaggy had hooked up by then.
They shared the same house.
On a cruise ship episode they even had the same room while Scooby and Scrappy got the other room.

>>
>>152363757
I never liked Velma. Daphne is the superior girl and this is the superior ship.
>>
>>152363757
I'm glad to see other's share my enthusiasm for these pairings.
>>
>>152364169
Daphne is a prep chick, Shaggy has the makings of a rebel despite being a laid back goofball. Though I wouldnt want this pairing to be defacto canon I think it could work well as it's own seperate continuity.
>>
>>152364755
Frelma has always made the most sense to me since they're both eggheads. I never got the impression Fred was a chad. If anything he's just a handsome well-learned guy.

All I really did was give Shaggy Fred's posture. They both have pretty big chins as is. Shaggy as an Ash Williams type just makes sense to me. As for Daph I just modelled her after Farrah Fawcett

I hope he can see the wisdom in Himbo Freddy and flustered nerd Velma as well

In a decent amount of the stuff that came after the original and Shaggy started doing more solo stuff with Scooby Daphne would often be paired with him. There's a basis for the two splitting off and doing stuff together. Even if they never did romantic stuff in any of the series that played with romance themes.

Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby mysteries
>Uh oh! We gotta stop these 13 ghosts from causing mischief!
>Reah! Rischief!

Fred and Velma mysteries
>By the way the victim was torn apart, looks like we’re dealing with a Wendigo.
>Shit and there’s a snowstorm coming. Just our luck. *Fred loads a shotgun and Velma cocks a pistol*
>>
>>152370381
Honestly, this would be pretty funny. Just spend each episode cutting between Daphne/Shaggy hijinks with crooks wearing costumes and Fred/Velma psychological horror facing off against supernatural forces. And have the two adventures somehow connected in the season finale.
>>
>>152370546
*Fred and Velma*

He can pull alien girls and monster girls just fine. The issue is that Shaggy's game is just too strong for normal girls. They can't take the raw masculine power.

>the man with the most vanilla taste in the world
>>
I enjoyed the episodes where it was just shaggy and Daphne and scooby. They have a fun dynamic. Often with Daphne goading shaggy into continuing on amd shaggy randomly saving her from danger.
>>
Its kinda lame that everyone ships fred/Daphne and shaggy/Velma. It sort of plays into the stereotype that attractive people pair off and the betas settle with each other.
>>
You ever notice how in the early scooby doo episodes none of the main cast really had much personality? Sure scooby and shaggy were gluttonous cowards, Fred was the designated leader, Velma was Sherlock Holmes, and Daphne was a bit of a ditz. But its only in their modern incarnations that they got flanderized to the extreme.
>>
So these days shaggy is a pot head, Fred is a retarded jock, Velma is a girl power genius, and Daphne alternates between dumb blonde and martial artist. Which honestly sort of cheapens all the characters by typecasting them.
>>
>>152371148
I don't think anything was made explicit in the original series, but even as a kid I suspected something was going on between Fred and Daphne because he would more times than not split the gang up to be alone with her. Shaggy with Velma is just the leftovers, though they usually get some guest character as a love interest.
>>
Maybe its just me but the characters always felt more 'real' and authentic during their early years when their personalities were more muted. It made them seem like real people not goofy stereotypes.
>>
>>152365951
Relay
>>
>>152363757
Wasn't it more or less canon for awhile during the 13 ghosts era. There was never a series where Shaggy went around with Velma.
>>
>>152371215
I have a biased opinion because my first interaction with the series was with the 13 ghosts period. To me it always seemed like Shaggy and Daphne were the natural pairing.

Daphne goes well with literally everyone. Although I disagree with Swain's interpretation: Daphne would be confidently hitting on Shaggy while he would be the one sweating.

I remember someone having an idea where Fred successfully dodged the draft, but Shaggy was sent on a tour and it’s why he’s the way he is.
Constantly afraid of everything? PTSD from Charlie’s jumping out of the bushes
Always hungry and willing to eat dog snacks? Lack of supplies and rations left him malnourished and always hungry for anything.
His impressive physical feats? Combat training and experience, only held back by his fear.
>>
>>152371224
Yeah, there was less focus on gimmicks and catchphrases, just general slapstick and some wit.
The dialogue felt a little more natural despite the age.

In the very first episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You, Daphne mentions that Shaggy is the top gymnast at their school. Shaggy then proceeds to vault himself up 10 feet and slide through a narrow window.

There's also mention that he's in the school's track team, so he frequently mentions needing food for energy.

>>
>>152363757
This guy can't draw shaggy to save his life. The use of "zoinks" in that sentence is gratuitous, and unnatural sounding (implying the writer isn't actually familiar with Scooby-Doo writing styles) whereas "Like, this shirt, huh" sounds far more natural for Shaggy while still being instantly recognizable as a core motif of his character/writing style.
>>
>>152374287
>"Like, this shirt, huh"
"Like, you really like this shirt huh?"
My point is that you just have change "zoinks" to "like" and it sounds so much more natural and feels much more authentic to how Shaggy actually speaks in the shows while still obviously getting across one of that it's "Shaggy dialogue" at a glance.
