02/03/26(Tue)14:44:40 No.152364080 Hello! I am Jason Yungbluth, cartoonist and creator of Weapon Brown, Clarissa, Deep Fried and many cartoons for MAD magazine. (Proof: https://www.whatisdeepfried.com/2026/02/03/proof/)
My Discord admin, who is twice as smart as Rain Man and 3X as autistic, has told me that since the likes of Todd McFarlane will never show up in /co/ I can celebritymax my stats just by running an AMA here!
So, um... fire away!

Clarissa Ruins Thanksgiving, Stuffed Friend and Family Portrait are comics where I really think I exceeded myself, and I love the way the Weapon Brown graphic novel turned out.

I use blue colerase too.I have local printer run off my blue-line sketches from PS documents on paper I provide him.
For likenesses: I would recommend the book The Mad Art of Caricature for lessons on how to see faces correctly. Bottom line: Always pay attention to the spatial relationships between each part of the face. Ignore what you "know" about how the features ought to look. See them as abstract shapes. Try drawing from your reference upside down! It is a good way to distance yourself from your existing habits.

02/03/26(Tue)22:22:30 No.152369195 Any plans to put the first Weapon Brown graphic novel back in print again? I loved reading comic strips in collections and the paper as a kid, so I've always been a huge fan of the idea; I would love to own it in print but I missed out on the print runs before. Might have to nab Aftershock before that goes OOP too.
Thank you for your time Jason, /co/ is more of a hellhole than it used to be (at least on the cartoon side) and I commend you for stopping by

I ran a Kickstarter for exactly that last year, but didn't make it. I may try again in '26. If you join my Patreon for free you will certainly be notified!

Love your art! And your stories are interesting. But your writing is a mixed bag: sometimes exciting, impactful and funny, sometimes it just loses all steam. I think it's due to poor pacing? Generally, I think you're much stronger at shorter stories than long format ongoing stuff.

I mean, /co/'s one of the more 'stable' boards, I suppose. And we do legitimately appreciate when people who've actually 'made it' shoot the shit. Fuck it, I'll bite.
If there was a major IP you could choose to do the next 'big thing' with (big graphic novel, run that shapes a character's public perception, character redesign, etc.) what would it be? Doesn't have to be cape stuff, could be design lead for a big cartoon series, etc.

How do comic artists (you included, depending) working in the industry nowadays deal with the threat of being abused by non-artists who are jealous and want to snuff their talent?
