I'm torn a bit. Part of me thinks Cathy finding out a guy she was dating liked fat girls would repulse her since she's desperate to be seen as desirable in a conventional sense, rather than as fetish bait. I think what a lot of people don't realize is that Cathy, as a character, is both attempting to reconcile the pressures of being what men expect, as well as what other women project. She's afraid of being fat because that draws as much criticism from other women as much as it does men. But most women are gluttons at heart, for sure. She just needs to learn not to give a fuck about what anyone else thinks for once in her life, but her self-consciousness is sort of the entire epicenter of her comic gags so obviously she couldn't outgrow that, canonically.

I was pretty disappointed by the news in anycase. I recognize Universal has zero faith in alot of old IP like Betty but she belongs in Toon Lagoon. It's practically the only place on earth alot of these comic strip and classic non-Disney animation characters have to call home. She deserved more animated specials. I recognize why she didnt get more, she is a hard sell to a general audience, but she's an adorable character. At the very least I wish her comics were still being reprinted. In my experience you can only really find second hand collections for sale anymore.
