I feel like if it were going to happen, it would have been at the end of book 1. To do it now would just be pointlessly cruel. He's lost everything basically before even hitting puberty: his father, his belief that his father wasn't a monster, his mother, his golem, his pymaric eyesight (though this could be rectified at least), and his innocence.

The only arc that makes sense IMO is him finding something to live for.
