IDW Sonic is simply gay for Eggman, there’s no other explanation. None of his other enemies get even remotely the same compassion he has for Egghitler and his Metal offspring.
He actually makes an effort to deport the Zeti back to the Lost Hex. He makes fun of Starline when he finds out he’s dead. He does the same for Surge when he thinks she’s dead and contrary to his longwinded monologue in issue 50 he refuses to ever believe she is capable of redeeming herself when she shows up to the restoration.

Conceptually, I like Belle on paper. A creation of a good Eggman and the conflict of having to deal with him being evil, and as a daughter-figure, inherited his ability to create.
She just has one hell of an ugly design, acts lame, and with the introduction of Sage as a character it creates this weird scenario where Eggman CAN care for his "daughters" but doesn't care about Belle - though I imagine this little arc will probably end with some acknowledgement of that.
It's partly the issue of tackling the impossible task of trying to make Vidya Eggman and Comic Eggman the same person. One is just a rascal these days, whilst the other is a monster.

Belle's a utility character. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that in itself (especially when Sonic's acting as the muscle). I could see a complaint of "How has Eggman somehow not allowed Sage to interface with Metal in such a way that allows him to sidestep Belle" or something about how the story needs Belle to be there and I can even understand being annoyed with how pissy Belle is acting (though I find her and Sage's bickering entertaining enough) or how the Mr. Tinker plot point is getting dragged out more.
But you don't need to seethe literally every time she's on panel.

This and the last arc feel like the B team working with shoestrings, so I assume the arc leading to #100 is eating the budget. Or the quality has vastly gone down.
Belle's and Sage's interaction needs more nuance. Not even "Hi, I'm Belle. Nice to meet you.". She falls too much to standard female writing. I don't think any thought was given to this story arc. They definitely will not show the big baddy, because that would ruin the next big arc they'd rather work on.

We don’t need another story of Belle crying over le tinker every second.
Simulation Tower arc did it. Zavok Restoration arc did it. Amy Camping arc did it. Surge arc did it. Then Evan even threw Belle into the forefront of the Extreme Gear race arc so that instead of races you can see Belle the Tinkerer open doors for Tails and Amy, because that’s definitely what we wanna see more. And then at the end she can have an issue about her at the big gay therapy session, crying about how she needs to find herself cause of Tinker.
I think we’ve all had enough of every fucking arc being about this shitty “utility” OC of Evan’s crying about the exact same thing over and over again. It’s enough already, she’s not interesting, and she’s not main character material. How mant more Belle arcs does there need to be before she gives it a rest already?

Sage meeting Belle was something that was inevitable (seeing as they're both "Eggman's daughters") and I can see why Evan decided to go for it and it'd probably be better to get it over with sooner rather than later (at least it would be if the comic hadn't already sent Belle off or featured her prominently as much as it has recently).
At the same time, we've already had family drama with Soliel or whatever his name was. This really aught to close the book on Tinker plotline and shelve Belle for a whileit won't, but it should.

Zombie Starline I’m guessing will be revealed by the end of this arc, but I’m going to go on a limb and say that’s a red herring for whatever the real “twist” is. My money is on Eggman Nega being his partner, as unlikely as that is. The two of them making a big “kill everything” device with the emeralds is about as good as you’re going to get with IDW, and would temporarily make Eggman “good” which makes Redeemnic giddy

Personally I'm not against tracing as a moral issue here; at least not when Sega is providing the material, which they almost certainly are. It’s dumb but it’s a moot point because Eggman can’t die, yet Sonic is shown to be super duper powerful which begs the question why he doesn’t kill him. Unfortunately the writers decided that rather than doing the Team Rocket blasting off route we have to tackle this question seriously and say it’s a long game of forgiveness. So basically this entire issue Sage did absolutely nothing to Belle while Belle acts like a cunt the entire time and then Sonic has to soothe Belle's hurt ego. But people like Tails, the Chaotix, Cream, Big and a shitload of other characters that barely ever fight? Even Sage, who debuts here, is less popular because she's 'strong' or can 'enact violence' and moreso due to other factors. Sage's thing is being an artificial intelligence anyways, I'm more interested in what her dynamic with Eggman, Metal Sonic and Sonic will be like going forward and what role she plays in that. Not how she's going to nuke Station Square.
Hell, some of my favourite characters are the Babylon Rogues. They're racers. Can they fight if necessary? I guess? But that doesn't really come up that often. Their thing is fucking racing. It'd be like saying Rouge's character is 'violent' when her thing is subterfuge.

Could really have some fun contrasting it to Sonic's setting or just expanding on the few elements that are introduced in Rush Adventures and leaning into the whole vast oceans and islands element to get creative perhaps introduce anthro sea animals as major parts of the setting.

Amy and Cream hanging out with Blaze and Marine would be pretty fun since they'd naturally work off of each other alongside Blaze's actually friendship she has with Cream. The forts thing I'd want to do for Blaze is give her an actual original arch enemy, something that'd fit her and contrast Dr Eggman like an Evil Sorceress, an ice themed admiral or a prehistoric tyrant. Though I do enjoy the robo pirates as a Rayman 2 enjoyer that can't be the only thing she fights now.
