For the same reason they didn't animate all of Dinosaurus' scales. For the same reason they use procedurally-generated background characters in city destruction scenes. For the same reason the show doesn't include properly integrated impact or smear frames like those in Japan...

Zoe deserves to get captured and interrogated by Viltrumites. The guy they put in charge would rape her for an entire week straight with no rest, Viltrumite physiology and stamina making it possible. She would be a broken little fuck toy begging for semen and sleep, spilling all her secrets and private thoughts. When she's let go of everything, he will finish her off with an impregnating cum shot deep in her super sensitive and stimulated cunny.

I didn't sense any stakes in this episode. Am I supposed to be thinking Viltrumites are super pathetic and weak at this point?

Eve should have killed Conquest.
That way it would have been some payoff for her powers existing as part of the story, and would have been better than how he was killed in the second fight.
Just straight up turns his body to a pillar of salt or a cloud of gas that blows away with a sudden breeze.
Then she passes out and Kirkman could have just said like he did she never reaches that level of mental unlocking again.
Would have solved all the problems people have with him escaping or him being a jobber later on.
Its not like they couldn't come up with another excuse for Mark to do something stupid and be out of the war for awhile.

Should I read ahead in the comics when the season ends?

And if I do, can I start where the show left off or are the changes too big and I need to go back and reread the whole thing?

Why is there so much pointless original throwaway filler introduced in the cartoon? Sure they are throwing away the budget on voice actors instead of decent animation but surely they still have time while the dialog is being recorded to plot out the future episodes?
>>
>>
>>153152006
No, anon, he's dead. Dead. D-E-A-D dead. He's not faking it, he's not coming back as a zombie, we're not getting an alternate universe version, or time travel or any other contrition to bring him back to life. Mark killed the guy. Nolan buried the body. Oliver watched him bury it. They stayed there for two whole months. The post credits even made a joke of it. I know it's sad, but you have to let Conquest go, he's gone.

Amazon wants their streaming service to overtake Netflix and other streaming services, same way they wanted to overtake Steam as a game distributor. They can only do that if they have shows that air over the longterm that keeps people coming back, Invincible is one of those shows.
>>

It's a long 144 issue comic story, and it was done when the author was just a kid like Mark, and now he has an adult father's perspective on the story, and has taken a long self-examining look at it, and Bezos and co. have given him enough time to do it justice.
Autismos want everything mashed together and abbreviated because the parts of their brain that deal with patience have been rotted to mush.

The show feels so tame now, I keep expecting a character of consequence to die and then someone saves them or they survive some incredibly grave injuries. I wasn't even shocked by Mark being entirely disemboweled because I knew he would survive. I'm not even gonna bring up how this show has some of the most inconsistent power scaling I've ever seen to the point of frustration.
They really did blow their load in S1 when it actually feels like they had stakes, now pretty much no character feels like they're at risk.
>>
>>153152140
Or, OR... Episodes have to be 40 minutes in length with 8 episodes a season and there's a business interest in stretching it all out as much as possible for financial benefit, with no artsy fartsy retrospective introspection involved.

>Autismos want everything mashed together and abbreviated because the parts of their brain that deal with patience have been rotted to mush.
No, there's pretty much guaranteed to be a financial reason behind it.
They blow all of their budget on voice acting and are given X amount of money for Y amount of runtime. The smartest thing they can do is stretch that runtime out so the scenes that they do 5 minutes of actual animation for a 50 minute runtime instead of 5 minutes of quality animation with only a 5 minute runtime.

They put out slop because they know the modern audience has no taste and will accept slop, they put more interest in hiring expensive actors as voice actors (no matter how capable at doing it they actually are) because they see more worth in such gimmicks since that's how their minds work from investor meetings.

And yet it's still one of the most viewed shows. You're an optimist, I get that, it's a good feeling to have to be so idealistic, you want to believe that good people want to make good shit, so when it's not being made it's because there's something wrong. It's not though, it's being done this way on purpose. The fact is that you just don't need to make something good to be successful, the lowest common denominator does not have the expertise to critically judge animation quality, it just has to entertain them for the better part of an hour. Amazon knows that, the animators know that, that's the way of things for life in general, spend the least effort for the most gain.

It's on par with the Justice League cartoon, or even BtaS for animation (tho not atmosphere).
Honestly it's amazing a project like this even got made. I see a dozen flaws with it, but the series it's based on had twice as many flaws, and It's still sitting on my shelves.
>The changes have nothing to do with a more mature perspective.
Now you are just being stupid for the sake of arguing.
>>
>>
>>153152497
It's good because it's a mesh of the tropes and conventions and stupid fun of the comics we grew up with, but the animated show gives a wider cast Agency.. In the comics it all revolved Nolan and Mark, and the drama their females cooked up for them to deal with, and Cecil fuckery.
Now there's a lot of characters with agency, Debbie, Donald, Oliver....
Of course everyone would like more money spent on the animation budget, there's hardly a single animated series that wouldn't benefit from double money. But we are all enjoying it, it's widening it's fanbase, and appears to have the legs to actually get to the ending.
I have quibbles galore but overall everything turned out better than expected for a gore-soaked Stas.
>>
>>153151209
eve being able to trivially kill a viltrumite would be too great of an escalation at this point in the show, getting past her mental block would have to become the A plot of the series. her being able to recover from a semi fatal wounld and having access to an energy blast that weakened a viltrumite was the limit they could push her character until an end of series revelation.

>>
>>
>>153152636
Yes we. Name a running show with more enthusiasm behind it on /co/. You cannot.
People quibble with Simmons "restrained" performance as Nolan/Omniman but I actually like it. Nolan is a guy who's thousand year life has been "Violence is ALWAYS the answer". So he's enthusiastic and energetic when violence IS the answer, but slow and unsteady and careful whenever he's trying to pick his way through shit that he cannot solve satisfactorily with violence. He's a guy who spent weeks in prison before it dawned on him that he actually missed the emotional support of another person. His upbringing just makes him emotionally retarded but he's trying to get better.

This, if she can manipulate organic matter then you have to contrive an entirely new reason she can't just turn off viltrumite powers at best, or not turn them inside out at worst. Eve's power is way too broken to lift her limits entirely.

Molecular Manipulation is one of those powers that is TOO cool not to use in comic stories, but absolutely ruins comic stories. Like reliable Mind-Control, Planetary Teleportation and several others. They always end up nerfed to fuck to serve the larger narrative.
>>
>>
>>153144351
Tech jacket didn't so shit in the comic either. He was just there for cross promotion. He wasn't allowed to get a significant win because that would detract from the actual characters of Invincible and Tech Jacket was just there to tease his own comic.
Not sure what they're doing with zoe though. She does seem significantly weaker than her comic book counterpart
>>
>>153152745
Also this. SPAWN makes an appearance that is throwaway and means nothing to the larger narrative. She's just there to fill the Cute Gurl quota that we all have to accept that we need.
>>153152736
see>>153152686
>>
>>153152724
Do you mean planetary teleportation as in a dude that can teleport between planets or a dude that teleports planets?
Because the former could be used in a plot for a supporting character who can only teleport himself that aids the heroes by sharing knowledge between groups rapidly over vast distances/worlds.
Which would be extremely useful to any sort of organised activity by the heroes in an interstellar range but not by itself a 'Win Button'.
>>
>>
>>153152708
>there's fuckall reason she has the powers
it makes a lot of sense to have something like that as a potential foil for the viltrumites. the peak of physical strength is meaningless to someone that can manipulate atomic bonds.
>>
>>
>>153152784
A guy that can teleport between planets can just dump all his villains on an uninhabitable rock, defeating them instantly because most power sets don't include interstellar navigation and travel. If he can't teleport more than himself, that's the same limitation as Eve not being allowed to use her powers on living things.
>>
>>
>>153152838
Wouldn't that depend on how his powers function? A portal dude who needs concentration and has a warmup time on spawning portals would work perfectly fine as the team's taxi without being unstoppable.
>>
>>153152827

Eve could still do more with her powers than she does even if she never learned how to affect living things directly. She doesn't though because she's just a useless bitch who exists for soap opera antics.
>>

Yep, she could have suffocated Conquest straight up by creating a vacuum, or just kept amping up the air pressure until he imploded. She actually managed to stop his flight, not even a super high gravity planet was able to do that to a viltrumite and she only did it once?

Of course, which is why they get piled on with nerf after nerf, "TPing other people is exhausting, it incapacitates whoever I teleport, I have to see where I am teleporting to, X blocks my teleportation...." and so on.
Molecular Rearrangement is the GOD power, so it is hilariously nerfed. In Eve's case, her powers were inflicted on her in the womb, and rigged to have serious flaws so she couldn't God Mode her creators, and she just not a brilliant tactical mind, so she mostly mucks with her more comforting Solid Pink Shit abilities.
She also probably realizes that if she starts shitting out gold bricks every supercriminal in this dimension and 9 others will come gunning for her.

Don't lower yourself to that level of discourse, his (You)s have been cut off.
Eve's powers have been nerfed through a combination of plot-limitations and being logically disregarded.
The Flash is a character with story-breaking power that is Logically Disregarded 90% of the time. Superman gets that a lot too. And not talking olden "Superman with all the powers".
There's a reason 95% of all comic heroes are "Punches Hard" and "Zaps People".
>>

It's not a term, it just means "Hero could logically do X, but doesn't because story".
Flash can build an apartment complex, wiring, plumbing, painting, all of it in less than 10 seconds, but for story purposes he has to "rush" to the other end of the city and engage in fist-fights with the terrorists holding hostages.
Rather than bling like "I Dream of Genie" and they all realize they are in prison.
Eves limitations are:
1. science programming/blocks
2. she's not even cunning enough to outsmart her stupid Dad
3. She's not the Main Character, and she has Super-Villain powers.

Wally's not mentally powerful so he can be distracted, be outsmarted, and make the wrong choices. Barry's the only one with a purely analytical mind because he's a CSI, the rest of the Flashes only have on-the-job experience and tricks they learned watching each other. The problem is that she CAN trivially kill a Viltrumite, to the point that they had to concoct an excuse for why she can't do it just so that the rest of the story can play out like it does with Big Punches still being the meta to build fights around. Undoing the mental block on Eve should be Cecil's top priority, its such an obvious and attainable goal, with the end result being able to turn any Viltrumite that messes with Earth into a cloud of flower petals in the blink of an eye being well worth the investment.

It's good to remind you that he's THE Viltrumite but it's not actually on him like Nolan's expressions during his "fight" with MarkThe lack of battle damage on him kind of makes me wonder what's the context of the scene since IIRC a similar moment happened *after* Viltrum blew upSpeaking of which, remember he was literally in tears of rage over his homeworld being gone. Viltrumites are planet conquerors, when they punch each other shockwaves should make nearby buildings collapse and send people flying
The show is gory but very often the animation is completely unable to convey speed, or the strong hit of a punch from a superhuman.
Last episode it felt like they were captain america but with the ability to fly instead.

That's effectively what happened. He could have fought Anissa off, hell he would have killed Anissa if she had come to earth with the same objective as Conquest, but he didn't. He barely resisted at all, because there was no "danger" and it felt really good.

Ok look, I'm not going to defend what Anissa did, but some people online turn into rabid animals when she's being discussed, saying she needs to die and whatnot, but they will also forgive people like Nolan who killed BILLIONS
He moved a fucking planet closer to the sun to genocide entire species, he did the train scene, how is rape of a single person worse and enough to make you irredeemable? They act all mature about the topic but are unironically less mature about it than the "I wish that was me" crowd.

Well literally JUST before Mark gets raped Eve breaks up with him so maybe the show will have a time gap between these two moments and Mark has a one night stand with Anissa
>>

I wonder what Kradd's final thoughts were. Imagine living 1000 years convinced of your invulnerability and then some prepubescent girl says a one-liner than a moment later a third of your body is just gone. A millenia of existence ending in a few seconds of pain and total confusion. Kind of sad.
>>
>>153156433
Yes, and Nolan for example hurt Mark too
>But we are made to empathize with Nolan more!
Again, I get it, if you come from this subjective feeling perspective you are completely right, but it seems to me a lot of people online have genuinely convinced themselves what Anissa does is more immoral or somehow worse when it really isnt.
I think it's bad, but morally speaking, she's not more irredeemable than any other viltrumite

Earth turned Nolan, and he's a true believer when it comes to viltrumite supremacy, he knows he can't risk it because he's the guy in charge. What I don't get is why they didn't just kidnap a bunch of humans for a breeding camp as soon as they figured out humans were viable for rebuilding their numbers. Taking the planet is understandably hard, raiding for breeding stock would be much faster.

Even if you don't go for the kidnapping option, it would absolutely be worth it to cede territory for 20 to 40 years and task ten veterans to take Earth with overwhelming force, but then they've probably got that whole Not One Step Back mentality going on. Yep. For any costume, there are three concerns that must be addressed before you can take it to the con floor:
1: How does it look?
2: How quickly am I going to overheat in this? How am I going to cool down?
3: The fuck do I put my phone/wallet where I can get access to it in a hurry?
1 is what most people focus on, but 2 and 3 are massive problems if you ignore them until you are at the convention and suddenly realize that your phone is in your pants pocket under 3 other layers of clothing, and you've only been wearing this costume for like 30 minutes and you feel like you are being microwaved to death.

I think this type of thing doesn't work as well in the current age, where we have shit like AI and crypto crap taking away energy from things that actually matter. There are a lot of other individual, smaller places he could destroy to make better energy than the complete mass genocide of a city. And if you're going by that logic, you may as well start bombing all of the U.S one by one until you only have 3 cities left that benefit from all energy and wealth from the rest of the land.
>>
>>153158245
>you only have 3 cities left that benefit from all energy and wealth from the rest of the land.
The point is, that's not how it fucking works
The industrial revolution raped the "fixed pie" theory 200 years ago already, instead of starving the population multiplied and even more food was available. Now there are less people starving than ever in human history.
Crypto isn't "taking energy away", you can have more energy, there is no fixed pie, you can bake more. Yo are basing your ideas on something that history has refuted over and over and over again, every single time someone has made this argument in history he was instantly btfo.
>>
>>153158236
Dinosaurus believed the city was a wasteful useless drain on resources. So he bombed it into glass and planned to build solar panels that use both the sun and the reflection of the sun to collect energy and in turn provide power to a ton of people.
The GDA ends up going through with his idea of building solar panels because the cost of rebuilding Las Vegas is astronomical.

>>153159049
I know it's blasphemy and normally I'd be against saying it (especially since I've argued for the show to go the contrary for years now) but Invincible's at its best when it deviates from the show while promising the big moments from the comics
Aside from stuff like Zoe as Tech Jacket, Oliver's lack of misanthropy, and Debbie not forgiving Nolan, the show itself is more close to the comics than it's ever been with Season 1 being the most the series deviated from the source material and even then it still followed the base set up and pay off of that first arc even if it
A. Reorganized some events
B. Changed some events
Turning the Omni Man reveal into a genuine murder mystery that builds up more and more until the dramatic irony finally fades was genuinely brilliant.
A bunch of the moments and lines in Season 1 that helped it in service of that narrative in isolation backfire on Season 4
For example, Nolan DID wreck the Flaxans but the montage we saw in the show wasn't in the comics
It was great for establishing how dangerous Omni-Man was but it sets up expectations too high for the rest of the Viltrumite race and even Nolan after his redemption/

The "normal humans" for the most part are identical to the show aside from leaning more on the comic designs (like Rex Splode's goggles or Nolan's costume being blue)
Thragg is kind of a coin-toss
I will say the covers looks better than it does in the show but Ottley's Thragg is pretty much the definitive take

True, a Viltrumite eviscerating a planet hostile to the empire is a ruthless machine compared to one with the set goal of integrating a planet into the empire. A dozen viltrumites unleashed on a planet like Talescria should have just mulched the entire planet's crust at hypersonic speeds; everyone except the top tiers would be dead before day's end. Instead, they get a few lame looking fights, knock a few people around, barely destroy a single city, die, and leave. Meh.
>>
>>153159049
I honestly don’t care about the show anymore, I don’t even jerk off to the characters, it’s increasingly obvious that Amazon and Kirkman wish Invincible was a live action show but didn’t want to commit to a Disney/MCU tier budget. They give the bare minimum of animation for a show with FIGHTS, dull down the original designs to these simple doughy forms, then blow the remaining 90% of the budget on casting A-list actors, and getting the rights to ill fitting songs instead composing their own OST. If they don’t care, why should I?

Not him
Some characters are more justifiable than other's
Levi's wrinkles would make most animators groan at animating and even Ottley's drawings of him would eventually simplify
Dinosaurus and Battle Beast I can sort of understand if it was about animating expressions
Thragg's least justifiable
Essentially, Amazon's fucking rich and money going into celebrity VAs with little to no experience in voice acting could be used into animation
Honestly?
I don't think the problem is even the designs or even how fluid the animation is
I just the key frames need more impact
Pic related wasn't perfectly animated but everything sold regardless through sheer composition matching with the performance Simmons gave

This season has kind of been a roller-coaster
>First three episodes come out at the same time, starts a very strong first impression
>Episode 4 is filler, widely considered one of the worst episodes in the series
>Episode 5 picks the reception back up but Mark and Eve's chemistry is questioned even with the drama set-up to come and people get disappointed over Zack's absence and outright being replaced by Zoe
>Episode 6's reception starts off positive with Nolan and Oliver, but people are steadily feeling more skeptical and jaded given Thragg's less than stellar first impressions, people pointing out the lack of presence the Viltrumites as a whole now have since the battle of Talescria pales in comparison to what Nolan alone could do, and concerns about the animation quality pile up even further
Now that we're reaching the actual climax and aftermath, it doesn't help that what's gonna happen is a big extension of what the show has typically struggled to make work
Fights in space aren't as interesting or well done as fights on Earth

Honestly, do I think it's better if he stays dead? Sure.
But... if they really were gonna bring him back for whatever stupid reason, I'd think it'd be interesting to see what he'd do on his own given his circumstances
>wake up in sandworld
>you're in a grave, so everyone must think you're dead, so you can do whatever you want
>whatever you want
>whatever you want
>whatever you want
They could just have conquest fuck around away from the war, trying to do something else with his life for a change. Would be silly but would make for a small "arc" of after-credit scenes

I don't know why these pages get posted more often instead of the ones with Emperor Mark as an example of Kirkman's stellar writing

You aren't wrong, but even his relationship with eve isn't meaningful, its just a long string of the most shallow relationship drama cliches.
Hence why she has an abortion and then basically has a kid with him right after anyway.

filler is one thing, sometimes the writers need more time or maybe events feel too close together and they dont have anything good for a narrative cool down
but they completely missed the ending of the series and just kept on going
