Ah, I started randomly seeing this everywhere just a couple weeks ago. Hopefully, I'll get to watch it myself someday. Yeah there's like 3 different types of shrinking scenarios I tend to imagine in regards to this.

The first being that it was was something voluntary, but ended up not quite being what I expected. For example, if you've ever seen the movie Downsizing, people willingly get shrunk to a few inches tall in that movie to live a life of luxury. A scenario like that, but either the process ends up also genderbending the subject, or it was an accident of the process, and before I can even fully acclimate into my new life, one of the workers of the shrinking center is suddenly whisking me away...

The other is a complete accident caused by my own foolish actions. An example of this being Mike Teavee from Carlie and the Chocolate Factory. He disobeys warnings, messes around with a teleporter, and then spends the next few minutes being squished, smothered, and smacked around while tiny inside the TV, before he's finally plucked out. There's even a bit where they say they they hope he comes out the 'other end' (inside the TV) the same way he came in, which could easily be used as an excuse for an accident to befall them and turn them into a girl. It's definitely what got me into size originally. The feeling as a kid watching Mike get shrunk, knowing I'd have done the same thing, felt like the movie itself was saying "You deserve this to happen to you."

Although, for Mike's scene specifically, I'm rather partial to the 2005 version, because of the way they bully him while he's tiny in the TV.
