Just tried some fragrances at duty free. Here are my reviews, feel free to agree or disagree:

MFK
>Amyris homme
Very masculine, has a leather-like quality. Opening is fougere, drydown is anise-iris combo. Weirdly smells like a Diesel perfume (brand, not the fuel)
>Gentle fluidity silver
Clean, masculine, with pine and juniper berries. Good enough but quite unremarkable.

Dior
>Dior Homme Sport
Resinous and fresh at the same time. Harsh opening, but undeniably a unique freshie. It has a synethic quality up close, but I don’t mind.
>Dior Homme
This one doesn’t smell like iris at all. Is this the MFK one? It smells like a generic male body wash.

Frederic Malle
>Carnal Flower
Boy, this one is unique. Impressive projection. It smells like the yellow flowers they sell outside a Catholic church, bit feminine but who gives a damn. I would wear it if I want to stand out in a crowd.
>Musc Ravauger
Sweet and musky, leans a bit masculine. It smells like a sweaty sex in a good way. Slight ashtray drydown. Ive read a lot about this one in these threads, id say it deserves the discussion.

Creed
>Green Irish tweed
smells like an old man cologne. Like a very old fougere. Very classic, a bit leafy.
>Silver Mountain Water
Honestly i find this one mid, it smells like a mint shampoo, good drydown though.
>Centaurus
Smells very cozy, Christmassy, reminds me of MFK Grand Soir. This is my favorite out of all I tested.

I wanna try Aventus Absolu too but they don’t have a a tester. Also wanted to sniff some of Maison Margiela but they have too many sales associates around and im autistic as fuck. Maybe next time.

I don't know why I'm being so stubborn, I just don't like vetiver.
There's something in vetiver that reminds me of gin and it makes me nauseous.

>>
i'm testing two MFK frags today
>Grand Soir
disgusting
>Oud Extrait
i actually like it, reminds me of Nivea hand cream for some reason, a medicinal oud is barely present in the background
i would actually use this if i could get it for free but for €345 it's a hard pass

>>18636689
nta, but
>How do you deal with salespeople

>>
>>18636680
I don't like it all that much, especially considering it's quite similar to French Lover except worse.
>>
>>18636598
>Dior Homme
This one doesn’t smell like iris at all. Is this the MFK one? It smells like a generic male body wash.
Dior Homme Original is the iris scent. Dior Homme 2020 is a completely different fragrance.
>>
Recommend me fragrances that smell like picrel please

>>18636598
Damn I was in the store trying a bunch out and only remembered to try Dior Homme after I left the place. Got home and bought what could be considered an Aventus clone because it smelled so good for the summer, also wanna try it to compare since I don't know the original.

>>18636689
NTA but I ask them if I can try a few fragrances that I've been curious about, I try them and then I ask if they have the bigger variation of the flask, like 200ml (they usually don't) or if there is a sale, and if not I thank them and leave. In the age of internet, most salespeople already know that you are going to buy that from the internet anyways, specially when it's half the price of the store. Feels cheap to do it but so does trying to steal $150 from me for a Carolina Herrera Good Girl
>>
>>18636694
lol noselet
>>
>>18636359
Ah, my bad.
>how do you avoid that
The best anyone can do is being aware of their own biases and how they might affect their own perceptions, which largely comes with experience, both regarding paying attention to how you form impressions and trying frags.
>>18636579
I personally care because I'd like to evaluate a frag based on how it smells and not how it presents or how its marketing copy reads.
Then again, someone else might not care as much and enjoy having a frag largely because of how the bottle looks, it's just up to personal preference.
>>18636567
I think it's more likely that they're simply not producing much of them to maintain a degree of exclusivity/scarcity and to avoid having to get rid of unsold stock for low prices.
>>
>>18636695
>>18636598
Dior Homme Parfum 2014 is François Demachy
AFAIK it is the only one Kurkdjian reformulated in 2024.
Never wore the 2014 version but with the new one I didn't smell any iris on paper at all but after about 5 hours on skin that's all i could smell.
>>
What does he wear /frag/?
>>
>>18636695
>>18636696
My bad. I think picrel is the one I tested. Honestly you can't blame me, all their bottles look the same. But yeah it just reminds me of Bleu de Chanel profile with more emphasis on woods.
>>18636689
I wear earbuds without music so they don't prioritize talking to me unless I ask. Sometimes when I want something I just ask them directly.
>>
>>18636693

Certain individuals" aren't gaslighting anyone: they meant exactly what they said, no more and no less. That said, there's nothing nefarious about suggesting that someone whose nickname was "Tweed" might have been amused by trying a fragrance of the same name. This casts no aspersion on King, with whom members of my family marched on Washington. There are few if any figures in history whom I hold in higher regard.

Blues and aquatic designers are actually the bigger designer sellers in China too, they might wear them as a clubbing, going out scent where as westerners would wear them as a daily. I was trying to recreate an H24-type scent using essential oils. So far I have mixed:
>Rain Water (smells like cut grass)
>Mint
>Ecalyptus
>Ylang-Ylang

As listed 3.5:2:2:1 ratio, mixed it together in 50 ml perfumer's alcohol, let it sit for 1 week.

The result smells like a soapy spa diffuser with hint of yellow florals. The metallicness from the mint only lasts for 1 hour and the entire lifespan of the fragrance is about 3 hours. I'll just wear it in the summer.

I saw Luca Turin at a duty free store in LAX yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen flankers of Sauvage Elixir in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I have the 120 bottles as well. I always scout discounts for fragrances and was lucky this time. Artisan is nice; it's fresh, lightly spicy, and smells exactly like my barbershop.
I do prefer the Artisan Pure, though, as it's fresher and more citrusy.
For me artisan smells like a mixture between neroli Portofino (4711) mixed with the Artisan Pure.
I love the bottles aswell, gonna get them all if i find more for this price

However, im not 100%sure its a legit bottle, i dont see any info on the batch or production date, barcode is legit tho, it links me to the real thing but wondering if any onf you have this same frag and can confirm it doesnt have batch code, its my first Bond ( bottle so i dont know if they dont even use batch codes on their bottles.

It's hard to say, I don't really have anything to compare them to.
I looked up the "smells similar to" but none of them i ever smelled before.
Both have a leathery resin smell. The regular is sweeter, less spicy, and more resiny. It also has the oud animalic opening, but only for a couple of minutes.
While the vintage is more leathery and spicy. For me, they are very safe to wear. The vintage is as the name implies more "grown up".
For ~24€, they were a safe buy, but for the regular asking price, I would not have blind-bought them.

I bought a bottle of ACDD but I don’t think he is/ever was a meme. I think he put out LADDM in a time when it was (rightly so) impactful to the community because it was rather unique at the time, but he was a one-hit-wonder and hasn’t been able to follow up the success of LADDM with any really as impactful as it was. He has put out two flankers to it at this point that didn’t really do anything, and now-a-days you can get the same general feel/smell in the designer space, particularly Boss’s Elixir. I agree with >>18638200 that his Incense Rose is great, fantastic even, but it’s not enough to carry him as a brand.
>>
I don't use cologne much at all, but I have a question that I've always wondered about. What exactly is happening when "that guy" walks into a room or by you and you can smell him from 50 feet away because of whatever he has on, and it's repellant as shit, pure chemicals. It isn't that he hasn't showered, it's that whatever he has on he has way to much of and it's sickly chemically.
>>
>>18638246
Somewhere in the middle, >>18638477 is probably the closest to the best answer. Not sure I’d call it the best as you can likely get equally good at a lower price point, even if nothing immediately comes to mind.

>>18638252
Very likely bullshit. You’re never going to match vintage formulas with modern ingredients, I say this not as a vintage worshipper either, they’re just claiming something that’s bullshit so you shouldn’t fall for it on principle.

>>18638326

>>18638795
It’s interesting, I kind of like it, but I wouldn’t blind buy it without testing it somewhere. 1) I don’t think I would reach for it much over my other leathers (e.g. Iron Duke, not that they’re similar, I just prefer it) 2) I can definitely see where people get that medicinal ‘band-aid’ smell from when they sniff it. It’s not that far of a stretch. Again, it ain’t bad, but I wouldn’t recommend a blind buy.
>>
>>18639300
Not sure what you want here. You have a nose, you can smell things. He’s wearing something you can smell. Clearly you don’t like it, perhaps he does, perhaps he doesn’t either but he thinks others will. Regardless, what’s happening is your nose is working.

>>18639307
Ah, can’t speak to that then. If you want to smell like Antaeus I’d just get the real thing. If it’s not available try the dupe since you have no other option, but if you’ve never smelled the real thing to begin with I wouldn’t bother.
>>
I have this OCD where I will literally not buy a fragrance even if it's good if the bottle is ugly to me.
>>
>>18639317
Companies know this, which is why 90% of the budget to develop a new product is spent on focus testing the packaging, not the actual product.
>>
>>18639298
>Should that be
Yes, I accidentally a word.
>>
>>18639330
Also depends on the consumer, European consumers love old money aesthetics, Americans are into simpler, high end ones while Arabs love gaudy tacky gold packaging
>>
>>18639205
You shouldn't if all you care about is value. Most people care about smell and they don't need more than a single bottle.
>>
>>18639312
>Regardless, what’s happening is your nose is working.

I suppose what I am saying is that I can smell people who wear cologne, or perfume. I can smell that, usually it's when they are close. Even if it's not for me, it's not something I (usually) find offensive. What I'm describing is a clear overuse of something, basically a cloud of smell that goes everywhere with them for a great distance.

no idea what the question is here exactly but yeah there are guys like that, for whatever reason, applied a little too much and it projects hard. Usually it's done for attention, like wearing bright colors or being loud, announcing their presence to everyone in the room. Is it weird or annoying? Depends on for how long we are in distance, how strong the smell is and is it a good one or not. Women can get away with this because women *sips coffee*.
Men should aim to be more subtle, loud cologne is for browns, arabs and chav/guido fuckboy types.

Tried out Jazz Club today. Been on my potential blind buy list for a long time and suffice to say I'm glad I sampled it before pulling the trigger.

Insofar as its objective of evoking the feeling of being inside a jazz club, wow, hats off, they knocked it out of the park. Boozy, sweet, smoky, to the point I would actually think someone had been drinking if I smelled this on them during the opening. That said I just don't know when I'd ever wear something like it. Way too aggressive for the office, kind of overkill for a weekend day out, absolutely no-go for the gym and way too old man-ish for a club or bar. Pretty much strictly a nice-restaurant-dinner-date kind of frag.

I tried By The Fireplace, too. Kinda meh. Not bad in any way, just failed to really leave an impression on me.
