They say what you wear should reflect what you do or it looks like a costume. So how does that apply to artists/musicians?

Artists are naturally creative people, you can't trust an artist who doesn't have a vision for himself.

Yeah, good artists and musicians also have good aesthetic sense, whether it comes to their clothes, the interior design of their house/workspace, the car they drive, the objects they surround themselves with, the places they like to go to and be in, down to the way they work and approach life. If they don't, then they're just schizos puking out random shit from their mentally ill mind.

Why does it look different

Because the guy wearing it is not a soicuck.

One, because it's a fedora made by a legitimate hat maker and not a $19.99 synthetic hat made in a Southeast Asian sweatshop and sold at Target. Two, because so many of the "fedoras are awesome" crowd don't know the difference between a fedora and a trilby. Three, because he's dressed appropriately and not trying to pull off a classic hat with a graphic tee, shorts, and faux-leather trench coat.
