i can’t tell whether or not i’m just too fat or shoe durability’s gone down the drain over the last few years or so. i have pairs from pre-2010 that are pretty beat up but still otherwise intact whilst the shoes i bought since 2024 are already splitting apart from the sole.

are there any brands you can just rough up and wear forever or are boots really the only option here. i’m out in the field on most days so something reliable would definitely be a big help

Hipster instagram whores have ruined boots too. Red Wings are now cheap bullshit made by chinks because their customer base is no longer working people but redditors posting pictures of themselves in cuffed jeans.

I just buy Wolverine boots these days. Pull ons because they last longer than laced (lace holes always give out within 2-3 years). Hit them with mink oil and a horse brush every few months. Lasts forever.

Nike bought converse and now makes the soles out of some sort of compressed fiber or something. Reducing the amount of rubber in the soles lets them be classified as something other than shoes and they can now import them without paying tarriffs. It's another jewish trick you can look up.

Made in Japan converse shoes are only sold for the japanese domestic market but they're identical to the pre-enshittified converse sold globally, they last basically forever.

I should have added. If you can afford it buy two pairs and rotate them. You want to give them a day or so between uses to air out to keep the leather in good condition. Don't fall for all the lies on the internet about how you shouldn't use mink oil or you need to buy boot soap and all that other bullshit. I wade through animal shit, mud and regularly do stuff like work on concrete all day in mine. The only thing you need is a horse hair brush (two is best) and a tin of cheap ass mink oil (it's not really mink oil of course it's some oil by-product).

Hit them with brush #1 to get all the gunk off of them. Hit them with a lot of mink oil being careful not to get too much on the stitching. Otherwise it'll fail. This keeps the leather from drying out and makes them water proof. Then hit them with the clean brush to work the oil in. Then let sit for 24-48 hours. It will change the color of the leather. Who gives a fuck their boots not a fashion statement. You don't need some retarded boot tree either. Just let them air out good over night. If you have two pairs it's better because you can let them air out longer.

Get some THIC socks if you go with slip ons and be prepared for them not feeling good during break-in. After a week or so they'll start to conform to your feet and feel better than house slippers.

If you can get some lace ups and a pair of pull ons. I wear pull-on boots for most everything but the lace ups are nicer for hiking and when I'm welding or something something else where I don't want hot metal having a chance to go down into the boot and burn the shit out of my feet.

Get steel toes the composite toes are shit and will fail every time. Stay on top of keeping them clean and they'll last forever. Even my ones with broken lace holes are still fine and I use them all of the time. But they had years to break in and will stay on my feet without being laced up all the way.

$150-$200 a pair.

I wanted to add. The main reason I wear steel toes isn't "safety" although I did start wearing them for this reason when I had a job that required a safety toe. The main reason to wear steel toes is because you never have to worry about anyone tripping over your feet again

They're also a great weapon. You can easily kill anyone you want by kicking the shit out of them.

For shoes you're fucked unless you go to Japan like this anon said: >>18645718

They're all shit. The only shoes I've ever owned that lasted longer than a few months were my old school Airwalks and Vans. But from what I've heard both of those have shit build quality now. I still have a pair of Vans I bought sometime in the late 90s that I abused the shit out of riding dirt bikes, hiking and wading through rivers. I keep them in my car now and they're my driving shoes because they're still ultra comfy.

My little sister keeps trying to steal them because apparently Vans are cool with the kids now. At least they were when she was in high school in the early-mid 2010s. She tricked me into buying her a pair of new Vans. I figured they were going to cost me like $30 since that's what they cost back in the day. I wasn't prepared for the $200 price tag but my imouto pulled the
>I'm cute onii-chan plz buy for me
and I foolishly bought them. I think they lasted 6 months despite her attempting to take great care of them.

I don't have advice other than the fact that Wolverines have been okay for me for the last 10 years. I used to wear Red Wings but the last pair I got fell apart quickly. I've never bought them myself though because my old job would buy me boots every 6 months. Wolverines are like half the price and much better quality from what I can tell. Maybe there is something better. I've heard people bragging about smaller boot makers. But it's hard to tell if they're instagram whores or actual working men. I doubt they're working men because I doubt working men use reddit.

What do you gain from coming here and just posting made up lies? Genuinely what do you get out of it?

I remember pairs from 20 years ago holding up well, but still hurting my feet if I did even a small amount of walking or standing. Hard to believe this was once an actual athletic shoe.

An adult fatty wearing these shoes is depressing as fuck.

These have never been durable, maybe compared to a random Walmart off brand shoe. Besides they look like shit without significant wear.
