Are mustaches /effay/ in general? I see more and more women expressing attraction to them. I want to grow a Don Frye-tier stache, picrel is my current progress.

I think it’s extremely dependant on the person’s face. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. For me, moustache looked pretty bad. But lots of guys can make it work.

Not "in general" because there aren't that many men around with the bone structure to pull it off. The short hand way of telling if you can get away with a mustache is if you're already handsomely masculine when clean shaven.

Since most men these days are not high-T and handsome anymore, they won't look good with a mustache. They're either effeminate K-pop soloist or lardasses with full beards.
