Drinking alcohol is the least /fit/ thing you can possibly do.
Alcohol isn’t just “extra calories.” It tanks recovery, screws your sleep, lowers test, and slows muscle growth. You’re literally making your workouts less effective.
>inb4 “mOdErAtIoN”
yeah, that just means less damage, not no damage.
>inb4 “I still make gains”
cool, you’d make more without it.
>inb4 “Helps me relax”
Short term, maybe. Long term increases stress and anxiety, also wrecks deep sleep, so not really.
>inb4 “Fits my macros”
macros don’t fix trash recovery

>3 beers halves your protein synthesis and raises estrogen
I'd argue 2-3 10% beers might put you at 85% muscle building, and sobering up happens faster and puts you back at a negligible disadvantage. However being actually drunk, or alcohol poisoning levels will actually have your liver at 75-100% capacity pretty quickly to where you're barely building any muscle. True alcoholics are at .2 BAC when they start drinking for a good feeling. Deep sleep is the same, be at 1-2 beers BAC before bed and you aren't that bad off.
That being said op you sound like rainman over here using 3 different bicep machines on the bicep focused pull day where you focus rear delts more than lats like dude just lift weights and look in the mirror this shit isn't rocket science.

I love drinking in excess. I don't understand people who have one or two, then stop without wanting more. If I have a drink, I am compelled to want more.
Once I start, I do not stop without great effort. It is much easier for me not to drink at all. Instead of moderating. I'd rather have a seltzer with lime with 0 calories than drink two 150 calorie beers slowly and not get buzzed. Moderation doesn't make sense any way. Why drink the calories to make sure you don't get drunk?
This is why I don't drink any more. Down 10lbs in a month without making other changes.

There's a reason why, asides from people with religious occupations, alcoholism rates are the lowest among medical professionals.
If you know what alcohol actually does from a biological perspective, you will never allow a single drop of that garbage to enter your body.

There's two sides to it. One is it literally tears apart biological structures. Disintegrates DNA, certain proteins, lipids. Either your body loses shit, or it has to spend energy to prevent shit from breaking apart. Mitochrondria (that are the primary site of energy metabolism in your body) "suffocate" (hypoxia).
Alcohol also has some specific metabolic pathways that consume a lot of co-factors (parts of certain stages of metabolism). Because alcohol can be metabolized all over the body, it drains these co-factors from other metabolic processes that depend on them. On its way to the liver (where most of it is metabolized), it damages the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract. This opens up the way for bacteria to get to places they shouldn't go, requiring a heavy immune response from the body (which always uses up a lot of resources, which is why feeling sick is always so terrible).
tl;dr alcohol is literally a poison

>It is much easier for me not to drink at all. Instead of moderating.
You're literally me. I can go for months without having any alcohol, even beer. But when I start drinking it's a heavy binge for days. Being drunk for days feels so fucking nice, freedom is nice.

thank you bro. it's been a struggle for most of my adult life. I've finally come to the realization that my relationship with alcohol is not healthy. I'll have a little after a long period of going dry and doing well in life. Then quickly spiral into drinking a liter of vodka every day. Ruining progress at work, my health, and social life.
I know that I have poor impulse control with alcohol and I just need to stay away altogether.

Weed makes you MORE mentally sick, alcohol makes you MORE physically sick.
Both make you mentally and physically sick, just weed leans more into the mental sickness and alcohol leans more into the physical.
In the end, which does more damage to society as a whole? Probably weed. A nation of people who die 10-30 years younger than they should is going to probably be a better society than a nation of people who check out of life at 20.

I play a lot of frisbee golf throughout the week
On Wednesday’s during our weekly “doubles” round, I typically enjoy two/three high noons.
Other than that I don’t drink much if at all
I find the alcohol helps my game a little while also letting me relax and get to know the people on my card a little easier
I used to drink beer and whisky, which I love
But I switched to seltzers like high noonsl because it seems less bad for you

you're talking as if you're a pro bdoybuilder or a dedicated one that is trying to make it pro and breathes and lives bodybuilding all day every day, reality is that you're probably a dyel faggot who looks like some one who barely lifts, and alcohol would actually make you bigger cause of the extra calories, you can stick your fucking "muh science" articles up your ass and go actually lift some

Alcoholism does all of that too, and it makes you fat along the way.

2-3 beers every night is how it starts. Then you progress to 6 or 8 or 10, plus more on weekends because "I don't have to be anywhere". Then you lose days in the gym because you are still feeling like shit at 6pm, and only a quick drink makes it stop.

Alcohol's social aspect more than makes up for its negative impact on health. I wager the friends you make and the good times you have more than make up for the dangers overall. Your body and mind needs those chemicals from socializing.
Of course if you have pals with whom you can hang without drinking, or if you've a religious community you can forget about drink, but for most alcohol is among the main avenues for interaction.
t. I wouldn't have met my wife had I not been drinking that night

alcohol and socializing are not related. The alcohol is only a pretext for social activity. In fact, the alcohol inhibits social activity by removing a person's normal judgement. It turns social events into moral free-for-alls that lead to embarrassment and loss of friends.
Find social activities that aren't based around alcohol and your social life will drastically improve.

I've been sober for nearly a full year now, not that I was an alcoholic before but drinking had caused me enough issues on and off that stopping wasn't a bad idea.
It's pretty good in all. I feel better, I look better, I don't have to deal with hangovers and anxiety or the sweet heart stopping peak at the bank balance the morning after a wild one... But I still don't really know what the fuck I'm supposed to do for fun and to blow off steam.
Getting merrily drunk, generally on my own, on a Friday night and doing some gaming was basically my entire coping strategy for life. All the weeks frustrations just blasted out of my system with a crate of icy cold beers and some good vibes.
I don't know how to replace that. I might as well live in a monastery at this point. I just work, workout, engage in whatever distractions kill the time best and then go to bed. Rinse repeat. I'm in better physical shape than ever but the boredom is getting to me.
No excitement, no adventure, no getting out of my own head and enjoying some drunken escapism. It's just day after day of mundanity. Tolerable mundanity but still not exactly fun.
>>
>>77193830
I cut out alcohol 7 years ago. Yeah you're in that period of time where you're still adjusting to not drinking. It passes if you stick to it. You can still have fun, still be social, still blow off steam and you'll figure all that out as soon as you kind of get past the awkwardness of not doing the things that you used to do a lot.
For me not drinking was the single biggest relief of my life. I didn't know how bad I felt and like you I wasn't an alcoholic. I sometimes drank too much and it always really bothered me. I hated the feeling of waking up the next day and the wave of regrets just washing over me, mostly for shit nobody even noticed but still.
But also physically, just not feeling like shit all the time. I had no idea that I felt bad until I cut it out and realized how much better I felt. And all it took was to stop doing one thing that I was CHOOSING to do. Just don't choose to do it and BAM I felt better.
>>
>>77193833
That's good to hear and I'm going to continue to not drink regardless but good to hear.
Walking has been good. Been going to national parks with a few buddies and hiking mountains but it's a once a month thing.
I'm going to need to find some interests for the day to day and weekends.
>>
>>77193853
Getting drunk wasn't fun, nor was it coping with frustrations, it was just dumbing your brain down to the point where you weren't as aware. I didn't really feel the need to "replace" that, but I felt something missing for a while. The first vacation I went on, which was where I really tied it on, was kind of hard. I didn't have a good time that year, being on the beach and not pounding beers was weird and sortof highlighted the issue to me.
But I got over that. You won't need to replace that activity, you will just live your life. It's hard to see at a certain point, but you will and it'll be great.

What’s an alternative then? I used to like drinking but as you get older hangovers become more of a problem. At least in my experience. It sucks trading a good night getting blasted at the bar with bros for crippling hangxiety at my desk the next morning. Is there any way to have something similar to the effects if alcohol without drinking alcohol?
>>
>>77193617
>drink every weekend
Here‘s your mistake. No wonder it did nothing. To get the full list of benefits and all the noticeable improvements from you need to do it at least every seond day, better most days of the week. Wich doesnt have to mean the whole day. Obviously have some rest days and concentrate your intake on the afternoons or evenings. Start with Beer and switch to Wine. Stop 7-8h before you have to be somewhere. Practice until next january to reap the full gainz. You will be astonished about the benefits and they will be noticeable quickly. Godspeed

He has alcoholism rampant in his family and cant fathom anyone not being better than himself with his shit life. He cant accept that what happened to his family doesnt always happen to every single other person and does this to cope. That and hes insecure and trying to find a moral high ground like the christ larpers on pol, cuz he has nothing in his life so he clings to stupid worthless shit to pretend he has value
You see it a lot here. Those types don't end up here cuz theyre accepted by anyone around them, you know? He got banished from multiple social media and this is his last bastion

I find people who don't drink weird.
This is after being sober for 18 months and still going because I have a family.
I see my friends and peers all enjoy it and pay for it but in the moment, it makes anything fun and builds connection.
What are you going yo do "oh lets play frisbie" just fucking gay. Its the freedom to do what you want when you want. Want a drink. Fuck it.
Anything else feels like bitch shit. Whenever I tell people who ask me to have a drink that I can't serve two masters I feel like a gay cunt.
I do not miss hangovers thoug but in the moment I'm definitely missing. After 18 months it makes me not want to socialise at all, in fact going out is completely dependent on what food otherwise its always a chore. People are fucking boring.

I drank a lot in my 20's, but I only got blackout drunk maybe 3 or 4 times. Overall, my guess is I must've had 2000 drinks, or about 4 drinks a week on average. I asked Grok to check all meta studies, clinical studies and so on. The conclusion is that it's essentially impossible for this level of consumption to have left any permanent, measurable impact on my brain or other organs.

>your “gains”
You weren’t making any. You blame the fact you had a drink once that you haven’t made any “gains”. The reason you haven’t improved your strength or physique is because you have no ability, cannot put effort into anything and can’t improve yourself. It’s why you make thousands of threads about this. It’s also why you talk about your optimal science based routines and ask for “advice” over and over and what you’re really after is reassurance
Don’t get fucking wasted before you exercise. That’s about it. Unless you are training for a bodybuilding competition or are a professional athlete alcohol consumption isn’t going to make a lick of difference to anything. It isn’t a “gains goblin”, YOU are the GOBLIN because you are SMALL and VINDICTIVE

Red wine in moderation is fucking great, it's an antioxidant, it's good for your heart , and the sulphite is great for your immune system. But I'm talking about two glasses per day max. Cider and white wine are also ok, the rest of alcohol is pure poison.

>better than weed which makes you lazy, socially retarded, and schizophrenic
lol, and what are you on alcohol? Drunk retarded and can become schizo drunken rage or emotionally retarded loving, hating and sorrow, and then you are hang-over for 1-2 days where you just lay around and eat fast food.
When it comes to weed, I can agree that it makes people lazy - but that was lazy people already so they became even more lazy. If you are into weed and smoke a lot you most of the times are very active in life doing all kind of shit.

In the last two days because of alcohol I managed to
>skip a workout due to hangover
>vomit, and be miserable and sick during hangover
>get thrown out of two bars
>piss off a brand new group of friends who invited me drinking
>ran and evaded police for over an hour
>hungover and recovering again today but I’m still going to work out because it’s not bad
I swear when I drink too much, especially hard liquor I change into a MENACE
I can’t explain it but I generally stop giving a fuck about other people and only do what I want, not respecting boundaries. I make fun of people and forget any form is social norm
And the worst part is is
I had a fucking blast, even running from police
Something’s wrong with me bros
I’m sending out apology messages today and trying to explain myself

Every weekend when I go out I get wasted but once I'm drunk I need to keep drinking a lot to keep that level and I spend like 150 a night. Unironically feel like crying when I think about the money I waste. The worst nights are when I don't even want to go out. Then I need to drink even more. I'm pathetic, I get nothing out of this. I spend like close to 1k a month on booze. I don't drink during the week and I usually don't pre-game a lot, but every weekend I drag myself into bars. Everyone knows me and they all rightfully think I have a problem. The silliest thing is that I don't even like going out and I could easily stay at home and yet it's like the autopilot turns on on Friday night and I walk to the pub and have a drink in my hand before I even realize how I got there.

On a coke and speed bender since Friday evening and the dopamine depletion is kicking in hard. I can usually handle coming down because I know what causes the depression but it's bad today. Also this except I don't get drunk for days because one hangover fills me with shame and regret. But once I start drinking for the night I just keep drinking. There will almost never be any alcohol left at the end of the night, I make sure I only have access to enough to get fukd up and no more otherwise I will keep going til daylight even by myself.
For me it's not a problem if I only drink every couple of weeks at most. Just get hammered every now and then, you'll lose some gainz for sure but it's fun as hell. I spent 6 months backpacking and lost most of my gainz but that's life, what is the point in getting jacked, to just get more jacked? Make yourself strong and fit to enjoy your life more.

I have traveled a lot and been in a lot of different social groups in my life, and the most consistent thing I have found is if people can not tolerate you being a drunk retard then they are fundamentally bad people. I really truly mean this and I am not exaggerating. As long as you didn't do anything truly awful, if it was just typical annoying drunk behaviour, then any normal person just accepts that and maybe laughs at you a bit. The people I have known who were truly judgemental about it were real fucking shitheads, not only that but they typically would get into that state themselves sometimes and cause more problems than most, but think for whatever reason it was OK for them to do it.
If they don't actually care then you are good, but if you sense them being gay about it then just cut all contact, never speak to them again. I am not joking this is some of my best life advice right here, this has been very consistent throughout my life. I'm talking from second hand experience more than first hand too, in case anyone thinks I'm just an annoying alcoholic.
