9/10 -1 for your filemanager not sharing a consistent background color with every other window. Perhaps add the textured menu behind its navigation pane and darken the folder contents window to match your terminal emulator and web browser. <3

It's not that deep. The bullshit folder for each language in .lab is where I keep examples. I thought this was funnier than the provided variable names, which seemed to be phallic references. I wouldn't have been concerned is Caleb Curry didn't spend most of the 10 hours talking about pizza slices.

this is my rediscovered x200 from 2019. im thinking about the best way to keep this installation as a time capsule. probably just resize the partition very small, but i'd need to reconfigure grub.
the new system i install i want to be speed focused. maybe even using systemd-boot (which would imply seabios payload, i think?)

Hey thanks. It's XFCE with the clock and icons being a Panel with transparent background. I use wmctrl at startup to forcibly have it behind every other window.

Of course. So far just stuck with Mint XFCE as it was the first one I installed because I liked the look. Been using dwm and Debian on the Thinkpad in the hopes I'll eventually be using that on my main machine, but I'm thinking it might inconvenience my workflow somewhat (despite window management being faster in some ways).

no suspend, notably. disabling the intel ME and having the option of open source bios or bootloader payload is something money cannot buy. so it's worth it to at least have one machine like that.
so to improve it, i want bootup to be as fast as possible. emacs daemon can start on boot too ofc, and it does resume state pretty well. so if you only use emacs and the boot time is good, a full reboot feels just like hibernate/suspend.

Well libreboot is fully proprietary bootloader and canoeboot is untrustworthy meme libre alternative that propably will have an automated updated that installs proprietary blobs when the developer thinks it has enough users.
Only actually libre and free bootloader is GNU Boot

Are you stupid? Most websites don't make use of the screen width. Maximizing a browser window is just wasted space. And before you try and write more stupid things: this is a desktop thread. It's a good idea to actually show the desktop.

in addition some autist would definitely patch said cves in linux or bsd due to its open source nature, whereas microsoft codes their software updates with some ai that only make the system worse

i'd like to add that there are definitely more cves to worry about than those currently discovered, on all three actually, it is a matter of when rather than if, pages worth of known cves isn't exactly a metric, for instance maybe windows has more pages worth of cves but it's most definitely because microsoft has cybersec experts on speed dial whereas linux and bsd are powered by people from bumfuck nowhere and the only way they can talk with each other are mailing lists, cybersec experts really check linux and bsd when they feel like it

it may just werk anon but do your eyes mind being defiled with advertising? I get that you may not mind but I still don't feel comfortable being treated like a piece of meat to make money off of, which is how the Windows consumer is treated by Microsoft.
>>
>>108011842
i have literally never come across any of this adware/spy shit you guys are spewing, i daily drive arch on my thinkpad (i posted the dwm desktop a bit up) and used to run cachyos daily on my main rig along with other distros (debian, arch, mint) but things would not work nicely with me and i would always come back to windows.
I never see any ads, never get any of the problems I see posted all over /g/, and I'm not treated like a piece of meat to make money off of, my computer obeys me in the ways I want it to obey me

Americans get like 80% more suggestions/recommendations/pre-installed software on it, and most of this board is American and since they're American they're too retarded to open their settings menu and flip the switch for it.
>>
>>108011867
i dunno, my windows 11 only installed the shit i want it to install, no bloat at all
>>108011871
probably explains it, im an austard so i wont get that many ads ig.
>since they're American they're too retarded to open their settings menu and flip the switch for it
a lot of problems on here can be solved easily if they just went to the settings menu and turned something off, /g/ needs to have some form of screening board before you can post on here so retards don't post simple questions
>>
>>108011893
>a lot of problems on here can be solved easily if they just went to the settings menu and turned something off
Well the golden rule of this board is: "It's okay spending 2 hours configuring linux, but spending 20 minutes switching things off in GPEdit is not good!"
But at the end of the day, just use whatever works the best for you.

That is rofi with combi mode, which allows you to have multiple rofi menus opened at the same time that you can select with shift+arrow keys. I just like an hour ago, beat the dhcp boss trying to ssh into vm's on my laptop over wifi by using a raspberry pi wifi bridge over a usb ethernet adapter to supply the ethernet connection to my virtual switch, so I'll actually be making use of the ssh mode for something other than testing out ssh tooling, but the other modes, run and window, allow me to run arbitrary shell commands in the background, which are saved and pushed to the top of the list via frecency. I mostly use that for scrot commands.

Man, MELOVES this startup.org concept. I don't have enough complexity of 'tasks" to necessitate it for myself, but can certainly admire it from afar.
>>107979241
INDEED. I previously used Courier and Courier New for exactly that reason, but wound up settling on monospace due to the merging of typewriter with teletypwriter with my psyche. My first writing (of intended literature), back in the 1970s, was done on typewriter, btw, so it's permanently burned into my being from childhood.
I have looked at everyone's DESKTOPS and have FLOODS of thoughts on them that could result in a multi-volume book series of posts. I always feel bad for not being able to express everything about everyone's and leaving anyone out because my impulse is to deeply explore each Anon's DESKTOP in great detail but I have too much to work on and too little life left for it.
I think all of your DESKTOPS, even the default normie DE and OS ones, speak volumes from behind them and it's _ to witness the manifestations of the psyches that have configured (or not) and operate them (the operating systems).

After a thorough analysis of the posts in the thread, I have realized that a good many of the posters are suffering from mild forms of mental illness, which, unfortunately, as present-day studies suggest, only tend to get worse with time. I think clubbing psychiatric visit coupons with the pass is the need of the hour. Please make it happen. Hiroshima.

Yes, because while carrying the analysis of the posts ITT, the realization dawned upon me that I too might be suffering from the onset of mild forms of mental illness, for I was roaming the catalog of a Taiwanese 1nm chip fab tips forum on a Sunday instead of going out, meeting and having pleasureful fornication with cute women, hence yes I solved the CAPTCHA for posting and will continue to do so until and unless a few discount coupons of a good psychiatrist come included with the pass.

I don't think it gets any better than this. Simple, functional and utilitarian. Foolish penguins will seethe for a genius prefers simplicity, and they admire complexity.
What's in the gray desktop folder?
>>
>>
>>
>>108031311
>What's in the gray desktop folder?
It's just a shortcut to a folder where my "Private" and "Work" folders are. I haven't found out how to define a completely new icon in Win 11 so I went with the only semi-suitable one - gray folder.
>Simple, functional and utilitarian
I get high blood pressure when I see cluttered desktops. That's why I keep mine as simple and clean as possible. For the same reason I went with the Olauncher on my phone - no Icons, just text and you can only chose a maximum of eight apps on your home screen - no second or third screen, no widgets, no bullshit.

Or you just don't really understand what is being done because you have tunnel vision. The reality of the matter is that DESKTOPS are in various ways representational of their USERS, their OPERATORS of their OPERATING SYSTEMS and:
DESKTOP

MATTER
so you should rethink YOUR life having been represented here by being a NNNNNNNNNN. And perhaps you are merely projecting because it is YOU who is doing the same thing as ten years ago so you are SEEING the same as you SAW ten years ago.

This is indeed an exceptionally nice PAPE. I have followed Voyager ever since it was launched. Voyager was my third big NASA program to see after Skylab and Viking. These things did a lot of work in the early shaping of my PSYCHE.
