I'm guessing this is bait, but just in case it's not, if you're not driving a Japanese car, you're fucking up.
That being said, if you're driving a car made past ~2015, you're also fucking up.

Believe it or not, the more expensive and exclusive a product is (meaning only the super rich in the know get it), the less likely it is to be pozzed with screenslop, and the reasons should be obvious.

>at least the ones that are important for driving
the gas, brakes, and wheel are in the same place on every car. AFAIK only tesla needs to be different and not put turn signals on a stalk. beyond that it does not matter.
plus that’s the same cruise control button selection I’ve seen on every car I’ve driven across 6 brands.

Some people like their car to last more than 4 years and some people don't want to brick their entire engine because they drive an extra 200 km before doing an oil change.
I hope you drive a Ford or Volkswagen.

I actually drive a 18 year old Renault that I've owned for 13 years. There have never been any serious problems, and the parts and servicing are cheap. I do most of the servicing myself, but I'm lazy about it anyway.
I drove a 2017 Nissan Qashqai at work for some time, and it had a misfire problem. Even the official repair shop was fixing it regularly until the engine died completely.
My brother had a brand new Mazda that he sold after four years due to engine and transmission problems. He then bought a Suzuki that was always full of water after it rained.
Japanese cars are a joke, you can't change my mind.

touch screens and cars should be so fucking illegal that the actual cars are illegal. even after you bought them you have to give it up and it has to be impounded and crushed into a little cube. and you don't get your money back because you're a fucking idiot

Medical devices also have this issue.
It's stupefying that overworked stressed nurses and doctors don't kill more people with equipment like this

low volume manufacturers literally can't afford to tool for custom capacitive touch pseudobuttons

>It is all about cutting costs.
No its not. Touch panels are cheaper than ever, true, but they aren't cheaper than switches, which can be had for literal single digit pennies.
Its because retarded executives and marketers think this shit sells their product, that's it.
>>
>>108058529
Wrong, touchscreens that are centralized with all functions are cheaper then have a panel that has to build with different circuits, knobs and switches for each individual function. It also insures an easier path of planned obsolescence.

Thats not true at all. Im not rich but I did used to work at a luxury car dealership with $200k+ vehicles and they absolutely went touchscreens for most things, including steering wheel controls and climate control. I expect them to make power locks and windows and seat adjustment touchscreen eventually.
Anyone richer than our customers would have a chauffeur anyway so it doesnt matter to the "super rich."
george soros probably doesnt even have a license, you think he gives a shit about knobs and buttons?

the leaf is based in concept but the like three people i've met who have driven one say it's dogshit

it makes it cheaper in manufacturing. instead of having a dedicated assembly line to the dash, you literally just buy a crate of shitty tablets and pop em in. the unit cost of the tablet may be higher but it's faster/cheaper to physically put in place. you can also put a higher margin on LE TECCNOLOGY so though the tablet is more expensive you can factor it into the price at 125% instead of 110% and make more money

I think my current car, the Renault Clio IV (not my pic) does it best. It has simple heater/AC controls that I can use without taking my eyes off the road. It has media buttons behind the steering wheel like all French cars seems to have, so I can adjust the sound and so on with my hand, without taking my eyes off the road. I have a touchscreen for navigation, which is useful. I only wish this came with Apple Carplay, but only very late models actually support it. In a way this is a very old fashioned car with very little unnecessary equipment, but it has the necessary ones. It has AC (manual), cruise control, ABS and traction control. It doesn't need anything more. The engine is only a 0.9 turbo, but it so far gets me entirely where I need to go to.
Sure I look at newer cars but after owning a Volvo before this car, I got tired of cars that use a lot of fuel, that have fancy this and that, parts just cost a fortune and everything is just so time consuming and hard to fix or get taken care of. The only newer car that I kind of want is really a Clio V which has a nicer screen and has Carplay. Same engine, a lot of same parts. Maybe I'll just eventually get a Carplay adapter for this and call it a day. Spending money on a car is just a waste of it.

This era of cars was the Goldilocks zone before they put in the iPads for control centers.
My Skoda rapid from 2017 has a similar setup but also android auto support. I'm never gonna sell it (even though that's stupid)
