but it took a more powerful computer to make that software
professional creators will always need more compute power than the end consumer

the later models were lower power, but the early models were hot and loud
fans in consoles was the point of no return, pc was better for that type of thing, that was the era the console died

I'd argue ken kutaragi during the PS3 permanently fucked consoles, console design, their generational bounds and their economics.
If it wasn't for the 599$ cell powered supercomputer we wouldn't be having X86 machines that are incredibly inefficient, keep climbing up in price and forcing devs and customers to be laggards

uhh yeah? all of the engine/editor and tools are gonna eat up resources while building the game so you would want a bit more head room than whatever specs the built game requires.

Yes, it's how Game Dev works. Dev consoles have more RAM for the debugging overhead.

The ps1 gpu is 2d. So is the PS2,3,4,5, and every other console except the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast is the only console with an actual 3d gpu ever released.

Renderware was bloated as shit. It's why GTA III ran at ajnabysmal framerate on PS2 yet Crazy Taxi with a lot more streaming and crazier lighting ran at 60fps on a bloody Dreamcast.

true but it was too vulgar in its design, the Dreamcast was more dreamy ;)
I did like playing music in game and hdd though, at the time it was my favorite between ps2 xbox and gamecube, given the revised gamepad of course.

that was still a time were you bought consoles for exclusives, the Gamecube was cute and had some nice ones, like Resident Evil 4, which looked like ass on ps2 port that came out later.

Wasn't a problem with the PS2 itself.

the overwhelming majority of PS2 games ran at stable 60fps actually.
It was the PS3 that had 30fps with dips down to 20 and the PS4 normalized this with virtually every singleplayer game on it being locked to 30
