I miss the previous logo, this as a downgrade.

They aren't native, they are just an inferior flatpak. They also are kind of hit or miss on whether or not they actually install correctly. I'd install something and then try to run the command and I'd just report that it wasn't installed.

it's probably the distro that gave me the least issues in terms of hardware compatibility since pretty much forever, and I can trust the defaults will give me good performance. I don't use it nowadays but it's always been solid.

installing a snap is like 50/50 on if they have some random bug not present in the native package or flatpak. things like browsers always worked fine but when I tried the steam snap to see how it fared, games would randomly crash on launch when they'd work just fine with the .deb package. also as of last week they've had TWO serious security breaches https://www.webpronews.com/the-zombie-domain-threat-how-expired-domain s-are-weaponizing-the-linux-supply- chain/

Feels good man.

>muh "native"
You wouldn't know the difference, this is basically a buzz word at this point
>>108054553
Wrong. In the early days snaps were slow to launch due to decompression but not anymore
>>108054572
This is valid, really depends on how well it was packaged as a snap.
Early on the kdenlive snap had issues and when the steam snap first launched I had issues with EAC games. I don't have these issues anymore though.

>focusing on native
You skipped over the fact that snaps are just a worse implementation of flatpak.
>Won't notice
I'd still rather have native. Its better for battery life. Why bother with a sandbox for an application that doesn't access the internet.

how come no other distro can even come close to their level of visual design? I don't use it but shit looks so nice

I really like Ubuntu, I just wish it sometimes did a little less.
I.e.
>disable gdm
>set greetd as display manager
>run normal update
>package manager automatically reenables gdm and disables greetd
Also, in general I don't like that systemd services are automatically enabled by installing the package. Arch got this right imo, you install the package, and then you decide if you want to enable the service. This also mitigates the issue of updates / package install overriding existing behaviour.

GNOME has functionality like screen locking that is directly tied to gdm, I'd imagine their ubuntu-desktop package has it as a dependency to "just werk". didn't know about the systemd services part though, dunno how I feel about that.

I used to shill Ubuntu a lot but 25.10 has been such a shit release I decided to just give up on it and switch. The rust core utils are dogshit, they’re unstable, break basic functionality, and they’re slow. 25.10 also just casually broke app images so getting them to work is an asinine process when it used to just be click and done. Also games are incredibly unstable now, I’m just trying to do my dailies in ESO and fucking Wayland will just completely shit itself and I have to restart my computer. This happened so frequently I basically gave up.

It’s just Debian with an update manager and worse DE and bloat. Just write an executable update script on Debian and you’ve got LMDE but better.
