I admit I don't understand why AMD has failed to achieve a significant market share in GPUs.
>>
>>108054176
I'm not your bro, pal.
>>
>>108054221
For some of us that have been fucked by AMD once or even twice. I personally dont hesitate to tell others to get Nvidia.
I cannot recommend AMD in good conscience.
>>
>>108054221
They need more years of good GPUs like the 9060/9070, but the GPU market is over so they won't have the time to build a reputation.
>>
>>108054221
AMD makes the best GPUs but they're useless for the things people *actually* buy GPUs for (crypto mining and AI.)
>>
>>108054474
Don't they have opencompute or something like that? Now that you mention it, people only support CUDA in AI packsges. Is that why?
That's really unfortunate, I was assuming I could get an amd card with more VRAM than nkikea if I ever got serious about AI.
>>
>>108054176
The vast majority of PC users are not enthusiasts or tech literate. They heard once that NVIDIA was the best and it's now ingrained in their minds.
>>
>>108054221
I'm buying an AMD GPU for my next one since the last experience with Nvidia drivers has been so shit on Linux I don't see the point now that EVGA isn't around. At least I can trust Sapphire to sell something decent.
>>
>>108054768
>everyone else is just too stupid to buy amd
I'm sure that's a genius marketing scheme that has worked really well
>>

>>108054221

Why are you talking about marketing anyway? I'm just giving a reason as to why there such a market share imbalance.
Normies don't gamble with hundreds of dollars on tech purchases, so they buy what they have been told is good.
>>
>>108054823
>I was supposed to reply to >>108054221 (Me)
Are you sure? Because I didn't say what you apparently think I said.
>>
>>108054474
lmao no, AMD had the best mining cards from HD 5800 series to Vega.
There's a reason why there were so many cheap second hand RX 580s.
>>
>>108054221
Because Nvidia is more of a household name. AMD video cards weren't even a thing a few years ago, it was "ATI".
But I'll admit making the switch to team red has been a pleasant experience for me so far. It does exactly what my Nvidia card used to do, but came cheaper and spends less power on top of that.
>>
>>108054221
Well when you only make 2 GPUs and spend most of last year charging $300 over the MSRP for the only card anyone wanted to buy it is a real mystery

The 5070 is already #5 on steam and all Nvidia did was charge $500 for it and actually make it $500 to buy.
>>
>>108054221
My boomer dad only acknowledges Intel/NVIDIA as THE CPU/GPU respectively despite being a technie and knows AMD/ATI existence.
>>
>>108054221
Shilling and FUD. Almost all of my gamer friends are still buying the anti AMD driver issues propaganda from like 10 fucking years ago. Meanwhile they have never ending issues with their nvidia cards lol.
>>
>>108054221
>GPU driver crashes
I keep telling you AMD drivers crash quite often for me. I'm a multi GPU user too. Nvidia hasn't crashed on me in years. YEARS.
>No strong AI support
There's no drop in cuda.dll alternative for windows for AMD. ROCM doesn't work on windows. 90% of the world uses Windows. AMD Has no fucking support on windows.
>>
>>108054221
Mindshare baby. Nvidia has successfully spend decades of building up an ironclad mindshare. They had emulated their idol, Apple. It allowed them to weather mishaps (Blackwell launch drivers, 12VHPWR fiasco) that would have another party to seize marketshare. Their hapless paypig whales keep harping memes that have not been true for decades and are convinced you cannot go wrong with going Nvidia even if you have to spend a premium on that brand.
>>
>>108055316
>the windowsjeet is also an nvidiajeet

>>
>>108055316
>I keep telling you AMD drivers crash quite often for me. I'm a multi GPU user too. Nvidia hasn't crashed on me in years. YEARS.
They both have stupid issues and instances of CTD. Both well for the most part.
>CUDA
irrelevant for the gayming crowd which is what OP is focusing on.
>>
>>108055316
>AMD Has no fucking support on windows.
I've literally never had a driver issue with AMD on Windows. I just wait a few days to update to the latest version out of habit/ritual, but that's about it.
I also prefer the Adrenalin menu to Nvidia's. As far as I'm concerned AMD having bad drivers is a past error that they've since rectified.
>>
>>108054355
No, Nvidia literately has to throw harder then best pitcher in MLB for a decade plus for any competitor to have any realistic chance of catching-up. The mindshare is too damn strong. Blackwell's early woes were not enough to stop it from selling like hotcakes.
>>
>>108055316
I've had far more issues with NVIDIA cards playing up and crashing than I have with AMD.
I completely ditched NVIDIA for good when my 3090 killed itself playing New World.
>>
>>108054221
Because first it was physx and then cuda and now its AI. AMD is just too slow. They could focus on drivers and longtime support at least but they cant do even that. There is nothing they can do properly, not even price is right.
>>
>>108055398
NTA but having owned multiple cards from both AMD and Nvidia over the years, I'm half convinced "driver issues" are somehow just user error or FUD. Hell, I've been using Nvidia on a Linux system for a year now with zero issues, despite the insistence from some people that Nvidia is unusable on Linux.
>>
>>108055470
>error or FUD
More like unstable memory.
Reminder that even XMP/EXPO is technically overclocking. I blame youtube "reviewers" that mindlessly push things like PBO and XMP/EXPO and claim it's 100% foolproof.

Because Radeon is almost always playing catch-up in terms of features and even when they do get close to catching up, their own version of Nvidia's feature never quite matches up
Also, a reputation of "Nvidia but worse for barely less money" doesn't instill confidence in normalfags so they'd rather just pay the little bit extra and get Nvidia
Also also, Radeon has shit-to-no presence in pre-builts and laptops which is the vast majority of the PC market

now that Amazon and Google are getting into the AI chip game CUDA will hopefully lose some relevance to cross platform languages.

>I admit I don't understand why AMD has failed to achieve a significant market share in GPUs.
jeet mentality, as simple as.
amd is an american company but act as a third-world one, the sabotage their own products for no other reason that the ones in charge have this irrational urge to ruin everything around them, it's the dna of a third-worlder, they just can't help themselves.
georges hotz is right, amd should be a 4 trillions dollar company, they WILLINGLY decided they didn't want to be one by sabotaging their software on purpose.
they have money, they could close their indian offices and get white dudes from nebraska to write their drivers and rocm but they decided that trillions in valuation was not something they wanted so...
>>
>>108054221
Because they're lying and they don't support their own GPU tech.
FSR4 has been left to modders, no dev really cares about it.
And 9070XT is not going against a 5070ti but the 5070. Meanwhile the price is way above the 5070.
And no, nobody gives a fuck about your irrelevant 16GB of VRAM when it doesn't even support 50% of the tech that nVidia does.

simple. AMD just didn't have the tech-experts that Njudea did at the critical junctions. They were not capitalising on their successes, and they were playing the game on an unfair playing field that Njudea established for themselves.

And now we're all going to keep paying the price, unless the clowns at intel-aviv come through for us.
>>
>>108054221
no marketing and allowing their tech to be used by competitors
>>
>>108054221
AMD themselves are to blame. Their drivers are still atrocious on Windows, on OSX Apple writes the drivers themselves, and on Linux its done largely by the community. There are bugs with the drivers like cursor corruption, random freezing, high idle power consumption, and many others that have remained unfixed for well over a decade.
>>
Reminder AMD had to bundle Client (ryzen CPUs) and Gaming together to make gaming look anywhere near good.

Gaming does not even make $1 Billion compared to Nvidia who make $4 Billion off gaming per Quarter.
>>
>>108054290

>>
>>108058742
I gave AMD a chance, they have me a shitty experience compared to the Nvidia cards before and after.

Why should I bother with them again? Why should I buy the product that almost made me hate gayming?
What's the logic here?
>>
>>108054221
Others listed a lot of relevant points, but look at it from the other way around too.
When was the last time ATI/AMD was relevant?

It's when they were ahead of the competition - Radeon 9500/9700, 4850/5850 etc, and when they had a killer offering like the RX 480/580.
What do they have now? Technologically inferior offerings at Nvidia -$50 prices, and the retards still can't get their head around this problem, it's a fucking mystery!
>>
>>108055319
Nvidia hasn't done shit to build up mindshare.
It's everyone else telling others to avoid AMD garbage based on their lived experience.
Everyone wants to talk about mindshare as if it isn't deserved.
>>
>>108054221
I'm Team Red since 2017 (on my third AMD GPU), before that I rode with Intel and I cannot recommend AMD to anyone not using Linux, and even then I think Nvidia is actually more viable than before these days. The usual shit AMD pulls when they get slightly competitive is just mindblowing maddening. One step forward, two steps back.

>>

For real, if these mongoloids don't pick up the pace even Intel will overtake them in the middle range market. Not that I mind all that much, but I'd prefer someone to compete within the next decade.

>>108058859
Honestly I assume it's because they are a bunch of retarded indians on the driver team but I don't know. regardless it's infuriating that there are people who stan AMD as the "underdog" when all they do is fuckup every chance they get.

Anytime I want a laugh I just look at this one guys forum post on TPU from July of last year where the guy was experiencing freezing with 3d accelerated programs(shocker) and he's still making posts about it and crying instead of just swapping to nvidia like any rational person.
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/rx-9070-xt-freezing-locking-up-only-on-desktop-anyone-else.338622/ it's literally pure copium, they could never admit they were wrong, the post-purchase rationalization is too strong.

lol at this level of gaslighting.
>>
>>108060062
i freely admit they were a short step below Njudeas 4000 series on the drivers front, less stable, some updates were buggy, most were not, but they've been very solid since the 7000 series launch.

Some of the previous generations 'bugs' were just bad gpu core architecture issues that couldn't truly be resolved long-term, and the only solution was returning them/buying the next gen of card.

See? i don't have to astroturf, lie or shamelessly shill to bring my opinions across, its because im actually telling the truth, and i also a much better person than you, in every quantifiable metric there could be. Its a very low, very brown bar i had to step over to be fair, but its true :)

confirmation bias retard, people have been actively crying about Njudea's gpu drivers since the 5000 series launch until right now. People ITT actually bring them up (not talking about the 5070ti shitposter that is) occasionally, i don't even have to go waste my life scouring r*ddit to cope with my buyers remorse like you do.

>>108060159
there's also another potential issue for anyone with a giga-oversized gpu cooler, i've posted the video before, its a pc-repairer guy who often fixes gpus, the massive gpu coolers are bending the pcbs and sometimes cooling pads/plates are no longer correctly touching the components, especially the vram chiplets, even if you use 1 gpu bracket on the end corner, you need at least 2, or to simply cop the bus-speed latency nerf and vertically mount your gpu.
>>
>>108060224
>confirmation bias retard, people have been actively crying about Njudea's gpu drivers since the 5000 series launch until right now.
it's hardly confirmation bias when every person I know has experienced the same issues, even fucking third world gypsy trash have seen it, but because it works for you with your single monitor normie setup that must means everyone else is crazy right? as for the nvidia drivers they fixed all the major known issues in the december update before christmas.
>>

Never had any issues with them. The argument about the power consumption is false as well.
The two biggest AMD strengths - cheaper and has less power consumption on average.
The weakness - worse upscaling than Nvidia. Although with FSR4 and Redstone , the difference is barely noticeable.

CUDA is used by every single professional application, and last I checked the nvidia video encoders were still miles ahead of anything that amd has. the thing that pisses me off a lot with them is they play feature roulette with video encoders/decoders ie on the lowend its better to buy intel igpu over something like a 6500XT because they don't have encoders/decoders so u can't even transcode with it on plex/jellyfin

Not really a flex. All this graph tells me is that they're roughly equal and you're better off with Nvidia in a 2 monitor setup and AMD with a single monitor. Nvidia cards produce more heat though, despite AMD having higher idle heat IIRC.

The 9070s memetrace well. It honestly doesn't even matter unless you are coomgenning (nvidia) or linux (amd). My friends have a 6600 8gb, a 2080ti, a 5080, a 3070, and I have a 9070xt. The only one with any issues is the 2080ti which crashes randomly when running ue5 games. Everything plays everything no problems with adjusted settings. None of this has mattered since the 3000 rtx and 6000 amds. Everyone can play whatever they want at adjusted settings. I only went from 3060 12gb -> 9070xt because I use a 4k TV as my monitor and refuse to go back to 1080p. The rest of my friends just use 1440 or 1080.

>the last time I used a Radeon GPU was when it was still called Ati
I'm using a Radeon GPU right now, my previous GPU was Radeon and my next GPU will be Radeon. I'm still waiting for those crashes to happen. Probably a lot less frequent than the Nvidia housefires. Imagine buying from a company with zero quality control. Couldn't be me. Then again I'm also not retarded enough to use Windows.

Probably chinks and poos running chinkrig frankencards made of recycled mining cards. Steam needs to add a filter by country function to just eliminate these irrelevant uses.

>I only went from 3060 12gb -> 9070xt
Well that's an obvious improvement even if you were to stick just to 1080p. The most used card in OP's chart, the 4060 also gets mogged even by most 6000 series cards, which are cheaper on average.
So what Nvidia truly excels at is the highest end of GPUs where AMD definitely loses. Anything below that, you can usually find an AMD alternative that does the job at a more affordable price. This is in the context of gaming obviously, if you're doing video editing then I'd sooner recommend Nvidia.

I use Windows and haven't had any major Radeon issues. I did experience shittier performance on the last Avatar game but that was fixed with the January 21st Adrenalin update.

my last long-term AMD card was a 7970 which had horrible freezing issues on the X79 + DX11 (ie https://www.twcenter.net/threads/my-report-on-shogun-2-vs-gigabyte-hd7970-3gb.556680/) that took them over a year to fix, then I put up with 3 months of an R9 280X before I gave up trying to fix its bullshit and swapped it for a GTX1080. I was on that 1080 til last year when I swapped it out for a 4000 series, Both of the nvidia cards I've used have been perfect and I have 3+ months of uptime at a time with zero crashes, freezes, or odd bugs. it literally just works.
>>
>>108061017
so you haven't touched an AMD product in over a decade and your experience is null, void and irrelevant?

I wouldn't buy a cpu made by AMD prior to Lisa Su taking over either, what stupid logic you have.

ROCm sucks dick

>>108060757
that looks more reasonable, it's crazy how many retards fell for the 4060

The last NVIDIA card I bought was a Fermi which self immolated and so I never bought another Nvidia card again. 390x, vega 56, 6800 xt, now 9070 xt. always much cheaper and more performant (in terms of perf per $) than the nvidia options at time of purchase. never had any of the issues you faggots are trying to bring up in windows or linux
>>
>>108061282
and yet all the issues I had with AMD back then are still an issue, as shown by forum threads on guru3d, techpowerup, and ocn. Funny how that works. the power consumption I showed in >>108060308 was the exact same issue my 7970 had, meaning they did nothing to solve it in all this time. remarkable work amd.

>sea of 50s and 60s
why is everyone so mega poor bros?

makes me wonder if they'll stop producing flagships one day.

Ngreedia is the household name for GPUs still so this is no surprise. Normies don't care about how awful a company is, or that they're the reason they can't afford to upgrade.
Plus half of those are getting to be quite old GPUs, probably people who haven't upgraded in 10 years and now never will thanks to their precious GPU maker.

>I admit I don't understand why AMD has failed to achieve a significant market share in GPUs.

This put this guy in charge of graphics for like 20 years.

Why is intel failing now? Why are boeing planes falling out of the sky? Why are people abandoning windows? The root cause is always the same.

>stop producing flagship
In a way, they already do. The most complete GB202 chip (still not full chip btw) is on a workstation card, 5090 is a lower binned card with leftover chips.

How does nvidia run on your machine, any issues?
I'm thinking of swapping eventually to have dlss for bibeogames/cuda for blender

>>108062125
It's so over
>>108062131
aside from having to manually rebuild initramfs after a kernel update to get external displays working at boot, no real issue (plus that's a Fedora issue not an Nvidia one).
I didn't do any benchmarks or anything but I've heard Nvidia takes a beating on Linux vs AMD. I have enough power that it doesn't really matter though.

Another reminder that through the 2010s, Nvidia manipulated SEO to hide their forum from Google search results while also sending out shills to all PC hardware sites to tell people to post all of their driver problems only on the official Nvidia forums. That's why when you would search "Nvidia Driver issues" you'd barely get anything, but when you searched "AMD driver issues" you got a flood of results from dozens of tech forums and blogs.

this reads like some the same retards complaining about 5G or EMF radiation or hollow earth or whatever the retards are fixated with at the moment, post the proof, i bet u wont.
>>
>>108063150
coping about a company that actively engages in online shilling doing something overt to protect its public image? lmao.

The sheer gall of indians in this general seething at people 'shilling' AMD products when there's blatant fanboyism from goyslaves like you on this level is stunning.

>>108054221
Overpriced
Aggressive marketing by Intel and Nvidia which more often than not have the inferior product on windows

You are an autistic retard if you think being loyal to some company will get you good goy points. Only thing you should be loyal to is the penguin.
