Why is there no ebay for trading things instead of selling things?

because then the government can't get tax 4 separate times.

In disputes it would be harder to return someone their item than refund their money. Monetisation would also be hard too; if you made someone pay per listing you'd be creating a high barrier to entry, plus generally low transaction values since the cost of the listing must be relatively low (meaning the cut the bank takes on transactions will likely be higher overall). You'd also be dealing with a much smaller number of users, since the platform would inherently conflate buyers (low effort) with sellers (high effort).

It would be very niche and require a lot of trust from users.

Well thats why youd also include a deposit for transactions that is returned upon receiving the items or something…

There is here, but most people still trade for money as it's so much easier

There are message boards for that kind of thing, r/HardwareSwap being a common one for PC parts, but most people still ask to "trade" for money. In general, coming up with an even trade where both sides are getting something they actually want, is inefficient.

Craigslist?

I was going to list an item up on eBay, and was just about finished with the listing, then I was informed I had to submit my SSN or some other piece of information (ITN, I think). You also have to fill out a 1099-K after making $600. Too many hoops to jump through just to sell of my old shit.

Local marketplaces are best, but the majority of morons on them are a pain in the ass to work with.

Seems like a viable option. I just don't like having to make a Reddit account--I don't like having to make an account in general desu, especially not when I need to provide an e-mail.

Being avoidant of being identifiable is going to make you appear untrustworthy. Scammers want a place where they cannot be identified so you wanting the same thing, even if you're 100% honest, is going to scare potential traders away.

Robbing people who meet to sell things irl is definetly a thing. Theres hardly anyone volunteering for that on localbitcoin or whatever anymore.

1. How are you setting equivalent value? How do you keep people from spamming 1 piece of fruit for a boat as an offer to someone with a boat? Run me through your imagined user experience.
2. How are you monetizing?
It could be that all users are paying for an account, yearly or something. But work it out, and your guess at a price point. Then we can start estimating your run costs to see how close you can actually get to a reasonable pricepoint

You guys are missing the point. For example you cant trade a penny into a pair of pants or something more valuable… But you can try a paper clip. Also computer components. Youd sell those to buy other computer components anyways.

Thered be a deposit thatd be reimbursed after both parties got their stuff. A small fee would be taken out that of that deposit. As for appraisal maybe categories ranging from lowest value (paper clips, rubberbands, plastic cups idk) to highest value (cars, bosts, maybe even houses)

Yeah, that happened to Trapcode. He got stabbed in a deal gone wrong. He's still recovering; it's not like in the movies.

Imagine trying to find the person who has exactly what you want and wants exactly what you have. This is literally why money was invented.
