02/04/26(Wed)00:29:56 No.108054628 It is kind of neat how you can store an entire linux in text in config files and save your os in a github repo.

the devs got overrun by trannies who purged 4/5 of the nix board members, then handed a resignation letter to Eelco Dolstra (founder of nix) demanding he resigns and leaves

The only serious init system is s6
It's correct, robust, and efficient.

tried it again
wasted a few hours without any meaningful progress tried both niri and mangowc. niri never managed to build just generated different kinds of errors each time and mangowc would start up with a blank config file and no keybinds so you cant do shit without quitting to tty.
the installation instructions for niri dont exist and for mangowc dont give you a working window manager after you run them. basically its a mess nothing is consistent and almost nothing works.
i suppose it has potential but you're relying on an additional layer of maintenance in addition to the underlying package/thing you're relying to to make sure all it's shit works and is configurable with home manager.
i get the appeal but spending hours in errors is simply not worth it when installing a working version of niri in arch is 1 command

just regenerate your system from your nix config, anon
it's exactly the same from installing from scratch

I don't think ansible deploys your distro from scratch like when you reinstall the distro.

It doesn't. You use it to configure a vm, and then you put the vm image on bare metal.
You use Packer to run the Ansible playbook.

Update: I won't even have to copy a disk image anywhere. I can use ansible and qemu to install an os directly to paravirtualized hardware.
