LEDs have already cut down light pollution tremendously.

What will be the next technological innovation to improve the night sky?

Wide adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles that don't dump gobs of smog into the air.

make sure all lights are shielded
street lights should be on a timer where appropriate (ie pretty much anywhere outside of NYC and other huge cities that are active 24/7
home/business lights and signage should also be on a timer

I always wondered why they paint the shields' innards black, wouldn't that just absorb half of the emission? why not a shinier paint?

How many hours can an electric bus run before it needs to recharge, and how long does it take to recharge? Electric buses means basically 1 bus driving while 1 recharges, you gotta double your whole fleet. Retarded idea if I ever saw one

There are chargers that can recharge the thing in 10-15 minutes
>>
>>108056937
how does electric battery fare in the cold? There was a city in northern sweden that switched to electric buses but then winter came, they got snowed in and nothing worked.
>>
>>108056908

You just put electric lines on the main routes and it charges while driving

who the fuck gives a shit about light pollution? if you care about astrophotography, you'll either live in the sticks, or make the 40 minute drive out to bumblegag, ohio in order to take a few pictures of stars
>>
>>108056965

They seem to be just fine. I live in Helsinki in Finland and we have a very big amount of Volvo, BYD and Yutong electric buses. Seems like only bugs are making commercially viable electric buses. Even with it being -10 to -20c here they seem to run fine, my understanding is they equip them with features that enable heating up that the base models don't have. I don't see any more breakdowns than what happened when most of the buses ran on diesel or natural gas even though those buses were from real manufacturers not chinese shit.

this is such a shame we could have skies where we could admire the milky way and so many stars.I've been able to enjoy looking at them in the countryside of turkey at 500/600 and it was wonderful. One night at around 2200 (before monte amaro) and same it looked so close ,so majestuous.People don't realise what they are missing because the jewish world is all they know.Khomeini is right ,the west is a slave factory.

Some cities have started going to warmer LEDs. I don't know if that's much better but it's a start.
>>
>>108056965
Electric vehicles actually work much better in extreme cold than ICE vehicles.
At most you need an electric heater when you park them for extended times, but you need that for ICE vehicles too.
>>
street lights need to be as ugly and uncomfortable as possible to scare away homeless people
>>
>>108060976
>#1 problem with vehicles in EXTREME cold weather is the battery draining and failing to start the engine
>in EXTREME COLD aka -20 to -50C environments like finland, they have heaters to keep the engine warm
>EVschizos actually, legitimately think having the entire vehicle be powered by batteries that LOSE CHARGE AND CAPABILITY IN THE COLD is a superior solution
>>
>>108056818
Most of the light hitting the ground gets reflected up anyways.
Can't shield against that.

>>108056881
You don't need reflectors for LED's because they're already directional, they're like little panels not like bulbs that shine in every direction.
>>
>>108060993
You're full of shit.
Block heaters heat the engine block, not the battery.
And batteries don't lose charge in the cold, only utter retards think that. - where would the charge go? do the magical cold fairies carry it away?
>>
>>108060963
yeah motion sensors are the dumbest shit ever. If I turn a corner and see a blacked out street then i'm not going down it. The lights are there to protect you and let you see ahead lmao. Not just to see what's in your immediate radius around you.
>>
>>108060869
>You walk out onto the street to look up at the night sky?
I do that during the day. Those cables don't magically disappear during the day, do they? I live in a beautiful european capital with great architecture and a gorgeous blue sky, and you want that view to be covered up by ugly cables like here?>>108056988
Tell me that sight wouldn't be much nicer without the ugly cables and ever uglier poles holding them up. If you disagree you're a fucking rat.
>>
japone as green leds? for some residential areas, seen on rambalac vids not sure the exact reason
>>
>>108061078
So you walk out, onto a street with cars just to look up at the sky? City dwellers are some of the lowest IQ ppl you can ever meet.
>>
>>108061078
I'll bet your "beautiful city" looks like this.
>>
>>108061058
>where would the charge go? do the magical cold fairies carry it away?
How can one person be so stupid? Do you just talk about shit you know nothing about, and assume whatever shit you make up is correct?

>Yes, batteries lose significant, albeit often temporary, charge and operating capacity in the cold. Freezing temperatures increase internal resistance and slow the chemical reactions needed to produce power, causing performance drops of up to 60% in car batteries and 10-15% in Lithium-ion,.
>Key Effects of Cold on Batteries:
>Reduced Capacity: Cold causes the electrolyte inside batteries to thicken, reducing the ability to hold and deliver a full charge.
>Increased Internal Resistance: Cold temperatures make it harder for electrons to flow, leading to lower voltage output and faster, temporary draining.

Nigga, I have a battery-powered vacuum cleaner and in the winter, when the house is slightly colder, that thing lasts about 10% of what it does when the house warms up. But if I leave it for some time next to a heater, guess what happens? The battery lasts longer!

How about you learn to fucking google basic shit before you open your mouth?
>>
>>108060968
It still doesn't provide the full color spectrum unlike sodium lights
>>
>>108061082
Here in The Netherlands we sometimes have green LED's in public parks.
Never on streets with vehicles but if you want to illuminate a footpath between grass/bushes why not make the lights green to match?

we've had motion sensor lights in a sequence where they light up in front of the person walking/driving for like 50 years. adapting that to street lights would be simple

>The lights are there to protect you and let you see ahead lmao

I just find it funny people complaining about cables for trams and trolleys but when it's for residential power and internet: crickets.
>>
>>108061139
>temporary
Mr bus driver, your bus has a 20-minute charge this winter due to it being really cold. Do not worry, everything is A-OK, because it is only *TEMPORARY*! In 6 months, when the sun comes out again, you will be back to having your regular battery charge. What to do until then with the passengers? I don't know, ask them to take a cab! Just not en EV cab, because you know...
>>
>>108061226
>people don't complain when the wires are the reason their homes have electricity and internet/telephone
What a startling fucking revelation, einstein.
>>
>>108061226
For one those are usually much closer to the homes and as such block a lot less of the sky than the tram ones in the middle of the streets, second people do complain about them still.
>>
>>108061207
The reason we have to have street lamps is because of non-whites, who wouldn't participate in a Borrow A Flashlight program without abuse and total destruction.

But a share a flashlight thing would work great, here.
>>
>>108061242
>those are usually much closer to the homes
Which makes them worse.
Imagine having to look at them from your window all day long.

Trams and trolleys usually only run on the main street.
The vast majority of people live on streets without public transport, even in busy cities.
