Everything is already from China, but here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.
1st rule of /csg/: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I've seen that cute character in OP's pic a million times and I finally have to ask, because I cannot figure it out:
What are the two red orange things he is spinning around on his hands? To me they look like condoms (still in the wrapper). Obviously that isn't what they are, but what are they?

In a pinch the Apple USB-C one will work fine. You can probably find one for around that price locally along with an adapter if you need one. It has worked fine for me on Linux and Windows. Some minor complications on Android but you can work around them.

The most common complaint about the Gamecube digital video output to HDMI adapters is that they sag off the back of the console. This one looks like it might be fine compared to some of the others? At that kind of price I'm willing to take a chance on it.

Just me or are we running out of useless shit to buy? Can't think of an item that got everyone excited since the haute controller and earphones which was a few years ago.
I've been buying some dog toys like below

Well I am returning to the retro gaming well because it has become easier for me to acquire the hardware from Japan. I can get all the parts I need to make it useful from China and being able to buy directly from Taobao and get it shipped to my house changes the game. Before when I was buying there I used an agent.
I have also become more interested in hardware hacking. Dumping firmware from flash chips and shit like that. There's all kinds of products for that available from China. I might need to get some assistance sometimes because I'm shit at soldering but it's as if a new world is opening up for me.

Dicking around with original hardware is fun for me. I own a Vita which can run anything a PSP can and more with a nicer screen but the battery on it died 3 times so I stopped messing with it. Next on the list is putting an ODE in a PS1 and getting it HDMI modded.

I think I have a problem. I can't stop ordering shit on Taobao. Their algorithm is too good. Once I start scrolling on the app it shows me things I either find interesting or have wanted to purchase for years now. The prices are so good too. Just from me looking at a few things it has zeroed in on my exact interests and keeps finding me the perfect items. I don't have the money for all this shit but I want it all.

even then, chang has all the interest in sidestepping this. They didn't "build" (quotes cause they didn't really have anything to do with it, they just put out the lowest prices) this whole thing only to have it stripped away by some law. They WIRR find ways to not make customers pay fees, as it's literally their whole job to make sure people buy from them directly.

Uh, no. You know what thread you're in right? Take a deep breath. Think for a second. Use your brain. If the chinks were going to shill don't you think they would try to push you towards a platform built to accommodate you such as aliexpress? I'm blindly fumbling through a chink app for chinks where I can't read shit, screenshotting things so I can translate them with Google Lens, and asking LLMs questions about different parts of the process to understand what the fuck I'm doing. It's still cheaper for me to use than Lazada or Shopee and completely sidesteps the issue of almost every seller on Aliexpress wanting $17-30 to ship to my house. So of course I'm elated.

Get yourself one of these. Made of thin aluminum, light, fairly thin, cheap as shit. They're best if you have around 7 cards in there (that's what I'm currently having inside). Has a little plastic tab at the bottom that you can use to slide the cards out.
Many come with a little elastic fabric pouch you can glue to the backside (comes with 3M tape) that you can use to hold some cash bills, a few coins and/or a single key.
I had one for 4 years before it broke (just last week), got myself another immediately. If like me you're someone who carries keys/metal items in the same pocket you intend to have the wallet in, get it in silver. The other colors are a thin paint over a silver body, so when it scratches it'll eventually shine through silver (because of the aluminum). If the color is also silver you won't notice. Though before I had arguably the worst case (black) and even that wasn't too bad from scratches.
For 2€/2$ it's a steal.

never buy capacitors, resistors, etc from chinese business2consumer sites like aliexpress, you're getting the out of spec stuff
also it's been a while since i bought resistors (because i bought like 100 and don't use them often) but places like digikey/mouser/arrow/etc were basically just as cheap but 100x as reliable
>>
>>
>>108961624
There's not much point in even buying them if you're using them to repair something the quality is genuinely shit.
I bought a 2 sets of the same spec caps just a few months ago thinking if 1 was bad I could just use the other.
When they arrived one was completely different from the images and the legs were too short and the other had visible corrosion all over the legs.
They'd probably been sitting on chang's back porch for months before he sent them to me.
About the only time I would break from his suggestion is when ordering stuff like capacitor/resistor books which usually seem to come from an actual reel at least, rather than trash probably scooped out of the garbage.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108961861
it's been a long time but from what i remember some chinese resistors had like 2x or more the resistance than declared when the worst US tolerance i've seen is +-20%, didn't see the point in risking it to save pennies
but also back then arrow were doing free overnight shipping on all orders with no minimum for some insane reason so i was buying like $3 of shit and getting it overnighted to me

With electric toothbrushes you should go for an option with (safe, clean, and) locally available brushes. An actual Oral-B/Braun/Panasonic one might be more expensive, but do you want to risk getting mouth aids from improperly handled/created brushes?
>>
>>
>>108962322
>locally available brushes
online is fine, oral-b's brushes are like half the price of local for me
the bulk pack of brushes is entirely german-language though, i guess they sell them cheaper to krauts
>>
>>
>>
>>108962233
Glad it can be of help to someone. They're cheap, sturdy and convenient as long as you don't carry either very much (and need a trifold) or very little (if you're the kind of person to carry 2-3 cards a leaner option with an elastic might be better).
Check bundles for better deals on them.
The only thing that can break really is the mechanism to fan them out. Before this one I carried a fabric one with a pulltab and those broke within a year usually, so this one lasting this long is a big improvement to me. If you ever need a 3rd/6th for bundles for that discount, it's a good one to get.
>>
>>
Looking to buy a fabric sexdoll and realized the brand is available on Taobao too, cheaper than through any other vendor. Never used Taobao before, but it seems easier to buy through an agent, with how much gatekeeping Taobao does with their account system. Superbuy appears to be the most recommended agent, though if I'm using Superbuy, is it possible to ask for customization?

Hi, I own >basically nothing<, but moving with wife and baby to a new permanent place after hobomaxxing.
So far I have these questions:
1. If I buy towels, laundry bags, plates, forks, knives, etc. what do I need to worry/look out for so I'm not buying a health hazard. For example these foldable cups I used when hobomaxxing were really sus.
2. Is there any site that reviews temu products and is not paid or a scam?
3. Any must gets?
Budget is actually very large, since I have saved autistically.
Thanks /g

dont buy plastic anything for cookware you're buying from aliexpress.
Buy stainless steel (and throw it out if theres any tarnish or rust) and GLASS. Glass, can't go wrong with glass.
Btw plumbing stuff from Ebay is better and cheaper than most stores. I am in love with a cheap showerhead i got from ebay, fucking water-restriction regulations in ausfailia mean i can't buy a decent showerhead with good pressure locally.

go to an ikea and go all ceramic and glass for dishes and pay a premium for the pots. they will last you a lifetime.

>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108965379 >>108965392
depends on how much you're worrying. any use of plastics is going to leave microplastics in you.
there's BPA-free labels for example but that leaves all the other chemicals used in production to leech into your food and body when you heat it up or scrape it off onto your utensils when you're eating. so it's really your choice how far you're going to go with this.

>>

durability.
The original lasts longer but costs way more. If you don't mind generating a little bit more trash, go for the knock-off.
>>108965353
So is the original...
The most important things are the electric motor, gears (due to noise) and the charger (those are made in Germany), but the brushes are all chink.
If the company wants me to buy original stuff, they should not make in china.

Bad advice, no danger in it. All the resistors I got have been fine, the caps too, haven't measured them though. But we're not working on fancy audio projects here. It's not worth paying 10x more locally.
If you're in EU buy some cheap resistor kits now so you have them on hand if needed.

Oh that's no problem, just sign up. Taobao is actually the easiest foolproof way to get a alipay account which you can then use to pay in china and send money etc.
Never ordered for myself on there though, mostly just buying cute/hot outfits for girls that I wanted to see them wear
>>108965263
Health risks of chink stuff is very exaggerated but you're better off going local. This stuff is heavy and mostly cheap.
If you want to save money, first make your list, then go to a few thrift stores, they usually have tons of cheap stuff but won't have everything you need. Then go to Ikea. A glass is like $1, a 15 piece set of plats is like $40.
Good luck with your family anon!

Surprisingly cheaper than what I expected.
https://www.superbuy.com/en/page/buy/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fitem.taobao.co m%2Fitem.htm%3Fid%3D764324077208
Based on the dimensions of the box listed on the page and putting that into the shipping calculator, the lowest shipper will be ~$150 (~$140 with the sign up coupon). Comes out to about ~$600 total. Not too bad, with other vendors ranging between $700 and $1000 (shipping not including). Only downside is that, I don't know if I can request for customization when using an agent like Superbuy. If I can't, not the end of the world. Now if this was a TPE/silicone doll, yeah, shipping is gonna be much more.

wait, really? I thought foreigners were banned from using alipay or any of those chinese payment systems from abroad.
>mostly just buying cute/hot outfits for girls that I wanted to see them wear
simpmaxxing huh

all plastic utensils are trash and create microplastics when you use them because you're never going to avoid scraping a fork or a spoon against your plastic bowl
plastic bowls and plates that have been used for a long time are always scuffed up, guess where all those plastic bits went
>>
>>108962263
you want the spinny round headed one, not the "normal toothbrush that vibrates".
get a real brand. mine has a wireless waterproof charging stand. it also pulses every 30 seconds, so i do 1 quadrant at a time.
it's great. i used to get cavities all the time. i started using floss picks, electric toothbrush, and novamin toothpaste and i haven't had a cavity in like 7 years. i just wish i started sooner because all my molars have fillings.
>>
>>108968677
did a little look into this and if you want non-plastic toothbrush you can get horse or boar hair toothbrushes
or arabs apparently used a miswak, which is like stick fibres that you've chewed up
some places advertise bristles made from plant-based castor oil, but i imagine turning that oil into bristles involves some shit you don't really want in your mouth, and then it'll all be glued in which is probably not ideal too
you can get a 12 pack of horse hairs for 32 usd
https://www.amazon.com/Gaia-Guy-Natural-Bristle-Toothbrush/dp/B0DM4GCW P7
no plastic, no glue, made in china

Don't listen to this guy, the rotating ones are legacy tech which actually majorly sucked. The vibrating "ultrasonic" ones are much better in every way.
>>
>>108969479
Interesting. I wonder what kind of hairs on horses are hard enough for a toothbrush, horses don't feel that rough to the touch.
Still, I wasn't trying to say toothbrushes are bad for you, my point was that even toothbrushes from the store are going to make microplastics but it doesn't even matter anyway because you're supposed to rinse everything out in the first place.

>>108968729
>wait, really? I thought foreigners were banned from using alipay or any of those chinese payment systems from abroad.
Oh, we are not. After all it's needed in China. But they are cagy.
For Weixin (chat, video etc.) some people are randomly allowed to sign up, most require an invite (can be from another westerner). Weixin pay though, some claim they could just make it, but usually it's denied even with passport scans etc. With no proven workaround other than getting a chinese bank acc and phone number.
For alipay though if you have any problem signing up or adding a card in the app, taobao seems to always solve it.

Is there something like a netbook I can get from Ali? I'm looking for a netbook sized computer I can put Linux on and browse the web and watch videos. Thats it. I. Specifically looking for a netbook form factor, not thin n light or Chromebook style.
>>
>>108969623
apparently the horse hair is softer than boar hair, and would maybe be a medium firmness in plastic bristles. i guess boiled and then dried the hairs would lose anything that horses might produce to keep the hair soft. do horses produce oil like humans do?
i didn't think you thought toothbrushes were bad, i just posted cause there had been a bit of discussion around microplastics in the thread so i thought i'd look into alternatives for toothbrushes

anyone see something like this sold anywhere? you can buy this relatively cheap these days but you need to open it up and replace some part to "jailbreak" it

>Surprisingly cheaper than what I expected.
>Based on the dimensions of the box listed on the page and putting that into the shipping calculator, the lowest shipper will be ~$150 (~$140 with the sign up coupon)
Ok, that's good.
>Only downside is that, I don't know if I can request for customization when using an agent like Superbuy.
You can ask Superbuy to forward message to seller, and hope best it gets translated correctly.
Or you could take risk by ordering it buy yourself from Taobao, and just ship it to Superbuy's address.

Anyone has experience with the 6mo/1year chinese language programs? ? I am having a hard time to choose the city I want to go to. I don't think the uni quality matter as much I feel like no matter what I will have to do most of the heavy lifting

you can reprogram those
this is what i use to get the data from them, it stores a ton of datapoints, like one year?

>netbook form factor
You mean like those old eee pcs? I know GPD do really little pcs, but they're rather expensive and may be smaller or not quite what you want.
>>
>>108971298
>They’re almost certainly using the same molds/factory, right?
It varies from figure to figure. Some are obviously factory rejects with tiny imperfections, but some are complete bootlegs. I think some prize figures might actually be the real thing, but then they're usually pretty cheap already so you're not really saving that much.
Nowadays though 80-90% of the figures are worth it compared to the overpriced real versions, unless you really can't handle imperfections that usually aren't that noticeable from a few feet away. If you're unsure try finding listings with review pictures and decide for yourself if it's worth it.
>>
>>
>>108973058
Most of those language programs are scammy and shitty, but it will be an honest way for you to experience China from a ground up level without the glitz and glamor.
What are your choices and what will be the job?

those are bluetooth anon and they are emitting all the time, that is why the battery is kinda short.
if you reprogram, you can make them save way more by making them not speak at all or just every few minutes

I was thinking SCUT on guangdong (I know that they speak cantonese also) maybe chengdu. I want a inbetween between a lot of english speakers and no one speaks english.
No job I just want to live in China and try and get fluent in mandarim. I have been study for 2 years already.

How short is "short"?
My chinkmi lasts a year on default settings. I reduced the broadcast frequency so now it lasts two but even one is plenty.
Ironically I have an eink one that has no smarts at all and that one only lasts a year.

She looks well-proportioned. Probably not an issue.
>>108973627
My only concern is that if I decide to resell, collectors likely won't touch bootlegs. While I only sporadically buy figures now, it's partly why I stick to officials.
>>
>>108974152
guangzhou is bigger and more expensive. a lot more opportunities there because of the size and businesses built in it
cantonese isn't essential though a large percentage of the population speak it, so you may learn mandarin at some point in time but walking around casually you won't be able to understand so it'll feel like not-china to you
>>
>>
>>108974152
Guangzhou will have the English speakers but dominated by Cantonese. It's also pretty pricey to live, like a California of China.
Chengdu will be cheaper and allow you to learn Mandarin faster, but it also has less (still a lot but less) English speakers. It's the fag capital of China and more likely to accept outsiders in general. It's dominated by spicy cuisine though so if you can't take spicy food, stay away
Personally I would go with Chengdu

hours: practically forever. uses 2x AAA, i'd say 2 weeks to a month. the best thing is the utility connecting to android and pc, worst is comfort and size. too big and keys too far apart

Depends how much you originally purchased the official figure for and whether it's out of print and in demand etc. It can be profitable. If you plan to throw or give away your bootlegs, that's a loss no matter what.
>>
>>108983009
That's why I mean it's of doubtful usefulness. It won't really diagnose faults, it'll just tell you what you already know. The only time it came useful was when I wanted to figure out what amperage a pinecil was pulling, and even then I've both forgotten the number and it is probably present in the datasheet.
I had a kid's toy that wasn't charging, rather than plug this thing in I went in and charged the battery directly.
Once it was up to about 2.8v it started charging via its own circuitry.

Knowing the voltage it negotiates if any can be somewhat useful, but besides that? Battery not charging? It's going to need a new battery anyways. any other problem? this doesn't help either.
not to mention that it can't be used in a usb4 connection where there's both data and power going through it.
I have one. It's a nice to have but it's utility is vastly overrated. It sound like you want one, just get one. Pic unrelated.
>>
>>108985170
>somewhat useful, but besides that
you clearly don't fix laptops. it's impossible to tell the state of the PD controller or an EC chip without knowing the power details. And that's impossible to do without one of these things.
