I'm making a gravel restomod from a 90s MTB. My original idea was to paint the frame purple (see the paint cap) and leave the rear triangle black. This was to be combined with these black and gold vinyl stickers. But now I'm not so sure anymore. I kinda love the look of the stickers on black, leaving only the golden borders visible. On the other hand, an all-black bike (all the hardware will be black) would look boring af.
Now I'm leaning towards some sort of fade or dissolving effect and have some of the stickers overlap both colors. What would you do? Feel free to draw on the image.

Close-up of a sticker. The border is metallic gold.

/n/ here, but I went to art school and did gd for a year. lifetime cyclist.
I really like that shade of purple, but I don't think black would look good with it at all.
if you wanted to do a two tone, I'd probably go white. there's an anon who has that and it's nice.
according to color theory, your complimentary color is either an orange or yellow, but that always looks garrish imo. your analogous hues are blues and reds but other than pink I don't think they work, either. what would look neat with your color would be a deep dark purple or an indigo blue imo. I also like purple and green but I'm not seeing a good match with this shade of purple.
doing a decent fade with spray cans isn't hard. this anon did his /n/>>>2045380 but you can't see it well in the picture. but I'm sure he'll post it if you ask. you do the fade on a diagonal roughly parallel to the downtube.
I can't remember which way it goes but the fade looks better if you do dark over light or light over dark. you could look it up or try both ways on a flattened cardboard box or whatever.

The thing is I don't think of black and purple as "matching" colors, the black is just "no color" to me. I don't think they would clash at all, and don't like black and white bikes. So the colors are not really negotiable. I guess it's more a question of shapes.

this guy just recently painted his bike during a restomod. I don't think the pastel blue goes with the black, but he did a really nice job technically. your purple has about an equivalent tint to it, so the contrast will be similar. if you like it, then go for it. he's in the /pybt/ right near the bottom if you have questions.

Why, of course I know the guy!
I guess I have a certain type, I like neon contrasts.

Ah, that makes more sense. Still not quite right for me, though.
