Was india's biggest mistake allying with the soviet union? Secular democries that allied with the US developed rapidly like south korea, singapore, israel, thailand, taiwan, etc. Soviet aligned countries ended up in the shitter. The soviets gave india very little diplomatic support in building nukes, which it had to do in secret, while the US would have likely openly supported india in doing so. The US ended up funding pakistani terrorism for decades to attack india, while the soviets did very little proportionally to help india. Besides, india's second greatest rival was china, a soviet aligned state.
Did india make the correct or wrong choice in it's alignment? Would it have been much richer today if it's alignment was switched?
