You do know Khoi weren't defenseless lambs? They assimilated surrounding groups and also engaged in military movements and acquisition of horses and firearms. The mass decline of Khoi and San occurred in the colonial era after experiencing war, disease, mass enslavement and forced land removals.

I think some kind of real partition might've survived, but apartheid South Africa's leaders weren't willing to hand over much of anything valuable that'd make bantustans viable, or even give most of them coherent borders.
