I hate the fags who connect brutalism with dehumanization. It is a beautiful style that is perfectly in tune with nature, connects really well with all sorts of greenery. British went so far to hide their rampant immigrant crime by claiming it was the beautiful brutalist buildings they inflicted those incompatibles with that were responsible for violence.

You're confusing monumental with authoritarian. No dictator would appreciate facades being stripped of jingoism. Not surprising, since you are a brainlet.
Also a common mistake to confuse brutalist architecture with commieblocks, which belies both your attention span and your aesthetic sense. You would probably miss a Stalinist skyscraper in the middle of Manhattan. They're all so tall after all!
Brutalism is the architecture of sprawling urban vistas, universities, utility buildings, dams, schools, factories. The style of progress that frightens recidivists scurrying away under their faux marble arches. I almost love it more than Art Nouveau and Streamline.

Well I'm talking to you and you're a fucking retard which I proved by debating your idiotic malformed nonsense of thoughts.
I won't even go into conflating primitivism with brutalism since you cannot discern between throwback and streamline. If I was younger I'd be curious how someone can confuse mud with concrete, as pliability direly affects the form.
Anyway you're a fucking retard.

nah, you are totally wrong.
I'm surrounded by beautiful architecture and plants.
And I still love brutal-ism.
You can like many different things and styles you know.

I've traveled all over, and Brutalism is everywhere....and it ALWAYS freaks me the fuck out. Some of it is intriguing, but some of it is Soviet Block shit, with minimal windows and reeks of depression.
But fuck me....it's fascinating.

Friendly Reminder: In the movie, The Brutalist, the character of Laszlo Toth, Hungarian architect and holocaust survivor, does not exist. It was a made up movie based on two architects, Marcel Lajos Breuer (Weimar Republic) and Walter Gropius (Weimar Republic). Today’s ugly modernism architecture, sometimes called Bauhaus, is based on these two architects. One of them is responsible for the ugly building structures we call, the housing projects. The movie was complete Oscar bait from the outset. Anyway, why name him Laszlo Toth? The real Laszlo Toth is famous for his vandalism of Michelangelo’s Pieta. It’s the statue of Mary holding Jesus’ body when he was taken down from the cross. Laszlo took a hammer and severed the left arm, nose, and chipped one of the eyelids of, Mary. The way they try to hide things.

Sorry but the pics of this thread aren’t brutal enough.
>>5073232
Not bad, almost there but not quite
>>5074669
There’s something there, not even as good as a WW2 bunker, plus I doubt it could actually serve as one, meaning it’s not functional but nonsensical artsy fluff, waste or space labour and good concrete.
>>5076881
This feels too warm and humane but I like the general direction it’s going
>>5077648
Oh yeah very nice
>>
>>5091168
This is great. Feels very homely and pleasant. Almost as confortable as the liminal space images.
Makes you feel like a slave of the state. Very anti civilian. It would probably crush the mind or any neurotypical too living there, which would just increase workplace productivity by weeding them out.
>>5092729
Classic. A beautiful display of industrial and technological might, practical and minimalist. The inside halls of the Death Star are also as /comfy/ as it gets. Nice, greyscale and filled with nazis.
>>5109066
Where is this?
Generally I would say most brutalist buildings consist of looking whacky for the sale of looking whacky. As if some architect cretin just played around with the dots and corners in his 3 d software to create nonsensical floating polygons. Very unpractical. I would say only the NYC server building comes close to doing brutalist well. Practical and elegant. Minimalist with no architectural fluff or artsy nonsense. No washed concrete. Just a collection of vents and exhaust ports, in a slender monolith.

I grew up here - a utopian, car free development, amazing concrete architecture. I miss it and long to live somewhere similar again, but where these used to be social housing, they are mostly privately owned now, and the unit I lived in sold for over £500,000 last time I checked, and is probably over £600,000 by now.
This photo shows it when construction must have just finished in 1979.
I'll post a more recent one showing how the building has aged over the following 40+ years

This is from the other end of the approximately 800 metre long building, the shop that was at the bottom right of the previous image is at the very end of the red brick walkway running up the middle of this image.
There were play parks and open green spaces between the blocks of this estate (Alexandra Estate) and the twin estate, Ainsworth.
There was an access road running beneath the taller of the two blocks, with garages and parking

Good thread. Been working on some renovations and uncovered a gray concrete wall. Somehow the gray and the rawness, honesty of the material just soothed me.
I then bought this random videogame called Control. It takes place in a supernatural government building where all the architetecture is (modern) brutalist. Telling you bros, this stuff did something with me.
https://www.archpaper.com/2021/08/brutalism-bolstered-control-success- why-is-the-movement-so-trendy/
Im about to start experimenting with concrete. Gonna make a melamine mould and pour some concrete in it. Im thinking a planter first and maybe garden walls next. Though im thinking of maybe pouring cubes like the ikea cabinet thing. Man this stuff is cool. But as always, it has to be clean, well designed and contrasted with for example some bright green plants. Then its super.

This is the kinda of brutalism I hate. To let the concrete get all filthy and decrepit. It needs to be kept clean. Concrete especially just looks ghastly when filthy and abandoned. Its the same with any material really, try finding a good looking piece of wood in old buildings. Unless carefully maintained it just looks horrible
>>5105666
Exactly, clean, so well contrasted with the wood. This makes me happy. It healthy to be in a clean environment. Its something in our dna to avoid filth.

Agree and it's mostly just a chud hivemind thing by people who have no idea what they are talking about and no interest in it.
Brutalism is about imposing monumental structures, it's basically the modern equivalent of the pyramids. It's the most Faustian style out there. You've got to be a pathetic faggot to be depressed and not amazed by big buildings.
Corbusier was a Nazi too.
