I know my forms are sloppy, but is the lighting and color starting to come together? (haven't yet started on slim in the back corner there) I'm assuming that the CRT would add a pinkish rim light since that's the dominant color on the screen, but on the other hand it's not the only color, and it contradicts the convention I see of always having screens be a bluish light. Would like guidance here. The more I do this, the more I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Guess that's what learning is!
Other issues I see:
>N64 perspective might not line up with the rest of the objects
>bunny's shoulder might be too far forward
>ribcage shape is too spherical
>should probably add a baseboard to the wall
>maybe a bit of bloom around the light sources?

Hello fellow \FAG\s. This is my first time posting here. Also, this is my first ever illustration. Previously, I only grinded fundamentals without creating something I truly liked. After finishing this, I feel more inclined on creating more illustration instead of needlessly grinding out fundies. I need alot of work, but I'm getting there. I'll also going to try to responds to work posted here because I really loved every post on this thread. I'm not expecting you to do the same

Kinda sorta. A comic would be the ultimate goal, but I don’t think I have the patience for something like that just yet. I’ve just been writing stories, and there’s 11 of them as of five days ago, each being roughly 25 pages long. It’s set in a small midwestern town, and while there’s a noir-influenced overarching plot, it’s really more about character study. I can provide a link to them if you’d like.

I used to go super hard on art from 2016 to 2022-ish but then I started having fun (drawing pokemon on an online art tool) and stagnated some years. I want to come back to drawing furries and take art seriously again!!!
First time posting on /ic/ since ... several years? I didn't even know there was a furry thread. I'm back frens and I'm hyped. Wish me luck. (and good luck to you as well anon)

>Is this a horror piece?
Yup! I've been interested in the theme of a cute bunny enjoying himself while surrounded by horrors, but he's completely safe because the horrors are too lost in their own agonies to be any threat. The tight grip in this one is not meant to convey danger to the rabbit, but rather that gripping something soft makes it slightly easier to bear the excruciating pain. And the bunny's just smiling up at it :) It's an excuse to have fun practicing rendering (i.e. get quicker so I don't get bored). My ultimate vision is to animate this thing: https://rentry.co/fgd68rd2 but it's either krita's animation UI is clunky or I need to watch more tutorials, because my last attempt was unbearably frustrating.

Make your character but continue not talking to furries. Most of them are freaks, but they'll lie and try to convince you they're normal. If you ever talk to a furry who doesn't lie about it, there's a 50/50 chance you can trust them

Meanwhile, Mrs Understanding sleeping it all off while Mr Understanding is on the National Crossword Helpline
(I like how it hits that "animation cell art over rough bg" test run feel, I wonder if you could get whatchamacallit animation cell "frames" as layer effect or in-between layer to give it an animation still look? Anyway, it came out super cool. If live calms, or clams, down Im hoping to try out something like that myself for a half-finished look)

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of 70s Disney. Like 101 Dalmatians or The Aristocats. Funny enough, I actually did make a real animation cel once, which I shared here about a year ago. I’d be more enthusiastic about doing it again if it wasn’t such an undertaking. I don’t have the patience for waiting for paint to dry, but by bit. Not to mention what a pain it can be to photograph something with a reflective surface!

I used to work with soft metals and semi-precious stones a bit, getting photos to come out right was its own art skill yeah.
This does look super cool tho, so if you can find a half trad/half digital process that works for you I think it could turn out really nice.

>I can get the boxes down but I can't seem to equate them into limbs...
In my opinion boxes are great for learning up until a certain point but after a bit they start dragging you down due to how stiff they are.
Try working with fluid cylindrical shapes instead, everything turned out much better once I started learning that instead (thru analyzing art I like by drawing 3D cylinders on top of their anatomy).
Make sure to draw contour lines on your studies or else it won't be very efficient.
It sucks btw, it really fucking sucks to learn, for 1-2 years I struggled grinding studies and only started feeling like drawing anatomy from shapes got easy/fluid late 2025.

It's not the main figure in the piece, but I want it to look alright. Assuming anyone cares, it's the Buddha Amitabha (I chose a rhesus macaque since their skin color can be pretty reddish, and in Indo-Tibetan painting, Amitabha is generally depicted as being red in color).

The first two may cause the third. The fact that you're a gay furry posting on 4chan says you probably don't have healthy IRL relationships and invest a lot of time into the internet.
On a more mystical note, your desires are aligned with a world that does not exist, and as a result, you are also unable to have children. Most people in such a position would have joined a monastery, historically speaking.
>sigh, is there a worser combo than this?

From my perspective it’s perfectly fine. It follows all the basic rules of art. Good form, shading, etc. What is “wrong” with it ends up being subjective. Do you think maybe the style itself is uninteresting? Perhaps diversifying your influences and studying other artists may aid in making it stand out.

your work is serviceable, there's nothing obviously wrong with it. but, working off the single sketch that i've seen from you, my (highly subjective) opinion is that your style & subject matter might be holding you back.
simple front-view-of-anthro-woman-pinups are dime-a-dozen. draw anthros doing things, draw them in interesting perspective, draw them fucking, whatever. just not flat, simple pinups that so many other artists are content with pumping out.
style-wise, working in the monochrome with pencil-ish brushes is terrible if you want people to actually look at your work, as it's quite visually boring and very very easy for people to scroll right past (keep in mind, they're looking at a tiny thumbnail of your work for no more than half a second, first impressions are everything). i suspect that this is why you feel your work is "missing" something. study other artists who are popular and whose style you like, they're popular for a good reason; they know their shit. at the bare minimum. render your shit, color your shit. you can spend like 45 minutes on it if you cel-shade and it'll double or triple your engagement
as for getting commissions, it's more about popularity than anything else. post on X (this is the best social media for getting an audience), and E6 if you draw smut. keep your timeline clean and concise, draw fanart of both existing media & characters that other people have drawn, and collect rexeets from other artists (very fucking important, i've found this to be, by far, the most effective way to grow your audience). play the social media game, get big enough, and you'll be drowning in commission requests.
it's worth it to start up an X account and get the ball rolling if you haven't already, but gitting good is what you should be focusing most of your time on
or just get a job, commissions are terrible for making a living if you dont live in the third world

>working in the monochrome with pencil-ish brushes is terrible if you want people to actually look at your work, as it's quite visually boring and very very easy for people to scroll right past
Yeah, ill go ahead and dump that shit right now.
>study other artists who are popular and whose style you like, they're popular for a good reason; they know their shit.
I realize that i dont really look at peoples art. I made a pixiv account so I can start watching others, twitter just keeps giving me memes.
I made an art account, but its got like 10 followers. Ill aim for retweets by drawing their characters I suppose, but I don't know if directly tagging them is a good idea, and if I just reply the art in one of their threads, it can be missed very easily. I don't really know how else to get the retweets.
>commissions are terrible for making a living if you dont live in the third world
Im grinding an engineering degree, so I should be able to land a job once I graduate. For now, comms should be nice. I dont know how other artists are making their money, even if they have huge followings.
Thank you for this reply, it was actually very helpful.
>>
>>7866017
>I don't really know how else to get the retweets
it takes a bit of finesse, since you are a bit of a nobody who's trying to manipulate them into gassing your shit up. becoming mutuals with smaller artists and then working your way up to larger ones is a pretty typical strategy that i use, but a single retweet from a larger one can 10-20x your follower count overnight. posting in drawing generals and /trash/ (and actually advertising your account) is a decent way to get past the initial 100-200 follower pit, after which your twitter should start growing on its own. dont think about it too much though, the social media game, when you're starting from scratch, is like 50% luck 50% gitting gud, since the best artists get to bypass all of this bullshit and jump to 1000 followers as soon as they post their brand new twitter handle in this thread. IMO, your time is better spent improving your shit rather than worrying about gaming the system. your follower count will grow naturally if you draw well and sign your shit with your twitter handle
>i don't know if directly tagging them is a good idea
it's usually fine as long as you put a couple words before @ing them. never have an @ as the first word in a xeet, since it makes your xeet invisible when somebody scrolls your profile. dont expect shit if you're tagging big (1000+) follower artists if they dont already know you.
>I dont know how other artists are making their money
they dont lmao. if you're in the first world, you should not draw with the intention of getting paid. you'll be better off if you smash your tablet in half and get a part time job at a grocery store while you working on your degree, you'll make more for the hours you put in.
take your degree seriously, do extracurriculars, get internships, etc. doing that throughout my engineering undergrad was way easier than getting mediocre at drawing and has netted me more cash than drawing ever could

>Yea. But no one seems to really want this kind of art anyway. Where can I even find a place to sell my art in? I'm pretty broke atm so I'm just taking anything I can get.
Where do you post? (ideally 2+ places - a static image gallery + popular social place, for example FA & X/bsky)
Do you have galleries (place with at least 8 images. you dont have to name yourself but name places you post your art at, you must post work samples somewhere for people to see)
Do you have socials (don't name yourself but at least do tell what kind: chat software and social media with DMs/chat or at least an email)
^if you're broke and want to draw for money your best bet is doing a ton of social legwork and talking to people like anons says here >7865952 >7866109 & regular sketch posting for a month to show people you mean business and then doing a Initial Character Class Choice that will show people your style and the Things You Do:
- smut artist
- sfw cute/cool artist
Can't tell more without seeing more of your art but this anon >7866567 has the right idea how you can spice up your works with after effects.
Since you mentioned Pixiv you could probably do waifu bondage there? It always looks like it sells.

Thanks for the feedback anon. You were right. I didn’t realize that the ear was that high up. And it’s @ Jamilsart
>>
A dumb question but: how much do you judge other artists as people from their artstyle and skill level? How much of a first impression does it make?
I want to start posting art publicly (e.g. not on 4chan) even though it isn't good, partly for feedback and partly to stop putting off interacting with other people, but I'm neurotic about this sort of thing. You can tell by looking at my current work that I have some kind of autism, and I've got it into my head that a chunk of more skilled artists might be put off by that without me having to say a word. (When I say a word it will become clear I do have autism, but of a different and higher-functioning kind to that suggested by my art.)
>>
>>7866966
I personally don’t judge other artists by their art skills or lack of. If I don’t like it, I simply don’t interact and move on. Unless you’re opening yourself up for critique. Then I try to be as clear and constructive as I can be. Mind showing us an example of your work?

In the beginning, there wasn’t even a triangle. I just watched someone do contour drawing for 10 seconds and decided to do it too on a whim, and I got the general sillhouette of the figure on the right. It took no more than 30 seconds.
