so far I've been on the server a while and I've found everyone on all skill levels gets somewhat intimidated by having other people watch you draw. Everyone is really welcoming and nice on the chat and there is zero pressure to draw, if you just want to talk or watch someone else draw, you are perfectly welcome to do so.

I honestly get fired up from watching people who are better at digital, and I like to doodle next to those who are less confident to make them feel motivated :) we all motivate each other, it's nice.

Draw on any layer you want just don't draw over other people's stuff (even if it's on a different layer). The software may take a quick minute to figure out but you'll find that it's not much different from most others. Enjoy!

I use paint2 brush for linework and pixel2 brush for shadows. didn't tinker with them much besides turning off line weight. what kinds of brushes do you guys use? do you ever fiddle with advanced brush settings? like stroke duration or uuh angular offsets adjustment?

Install Drawpile and see, its brush engine is far superior to what it was just a year or so. In fact, it has so many options with regards to brushes I'd say some are perhaps redundant. It's a very robust, modern program these days in either case and well worth experimenting with.
