it's not difficult at all to learn exactly how the multiply layer works and how to use it effectively and intentionally.

the multiply layer is always going to shade because it multiplies the base color by its pixel color, and that pixel color is measured from 0,0,0 to 1,1,1. so it will always reduce the value of the base color.

since those color values are red, blue, and green, you can do the math in your mind to calculate what color you use to shade with to get a desired result. use your brain. it's not hard.
