I’ve been using the Basic-5 Size Brush in Krita for years, and honestly?
It’s still completely goated.
Sketching, lineart, shading, and rendering it handles everything.
No brush hopping, no gimmicks. Just change the opacity from time to time; this one brush has been carrying my art this whole time.

I'm a one brush kinda guy myself as well. The more brushes, the more complexity and indecision you add to the creation process of your work. So having an "ol' reliable" is much more preferable - and maybe a couple of situational dependent brushes, line one specifically for gravel textures, etc.
As for my brush of choice? A hard square brush.

I use only three consistently, Pencil-5 Tilted being my favourite. There are plenty of good brushes, but sometimes the hard round brush is hard to beat. If I do linework, Bristles-5 Flat is good enough for me. There are a few novelties, especially in regards to the specialty paint brushes that have texture and whatnot, the basics are the best and are plenty good.

God I want to love Krita but every time I have an issue and go to the forum for answers this motherfucker is always there to offer a solution that doesn't even do what was asked for. So I use photoshop instead.

That's called "Redditor Question Avoidance Syndrome"
They strawman your question by answering a question you never asked.

Krita still has "open source jank" disease but in a minor degree. It's a strong image editor too. Especially with all the non-destructive layers
