how do you enjoy drawing?
I can copy, follow courses, and learn.
But how do I actually find it fun in the same way I find playing a video game or watching a movie fun

what is your purpose for drawing my guy? Are you forcing yourself to draw because of some external factors?

I have fun drawing figures, It’s very fun when you get the proportions and the features right, and then you start shading and it starts to resemble the reference

I'm in the pre/beg/ stage where I can only copy art I like and study with free courses and videos.
When I try to draw a person for example, with just a reference, it feels hopeless and I feel frustrated and a sense of despair and I don't really like the finished piece. However, when I copy art I like, I feel a sense of accomplishment and it does feel nice to see how it turns out in real time. Studying isn't really fun but I think that's normal.
My purpose for drawing is both getting a skill that lets me be creative+use my brain, and being able to draw the same type of art I've found appealing for years sounds very nice. I am "forcing" myself to draw because I believe it will get better in terms of enjoyment and I am only in the unfun beginner stages, but I would still like any advice. After all, aren't the very beginner stages of every skill extremely tedious and overwhelming?

I think you already have your answer my frendo.
You'll learn to love the process in time, not just the finished product. Your frustration of not knowing what exactly to do wont disappear anytime soon, but it'll slowly transform into curiosity and the need to correct over time.
If it helps, you can balance learning sessions with "fun" session where you draw goofy stuff or copy/trace illustration just for the sake of having fun.

Takes about 10 years, very few people enjoy drawing because they aren't able to express what's in their mind until they master it

Yea but what do you want to actually draw? is it fantasy? environments? characters? comics? anime?
Try to start creating as soon as you can.
Since you're a pre-beg, here is an example of an sketch I did, I was scared of creating, so I just took a simple first step by changing the position of a thing I wanted to draw since it caught my attention. If you're feeling the same as me, try small steps at a time and celebrate your wins if you get it right.

But yea, what do you want to draw? that's important to have in mind, try to be specific since it is what you will be drawing if you like it.

You don't. Drawing is fun in the same way hiking, or exercising, or woodworking can be "fun" - it's the satisfaction of achieving something.
It's a different type of fun that doesn't provide enough dopamine for those brains rotted from tik-tok.

I just like it

The thing is modern video games are literally made to be so addictive and fun that drawing.. a task which is genuinely slow and takes a little effort and thinking.. is not as fun as it. It’s not your fault your brain is just being numbed by the hyper stimulation. But apart from that, are you doing what you actually want to draw?

i have the opposite problem i like drawing and know that i like drawing and i always feel better with myself when i manage to commit time to doodles and practice but i just can't seem to stop distracting myself

I find it fun to see my art coming along, when doing lineart and finally getting that line just how I want it, to color the empty spaces and add value... it's fun when you draw what you want to draw in the style you want to draw it into.

Bros, I feel like I lobotomized the part of my brain that creates ideas. On the rare occasion something sparks in my brain drawing is the best thing in the world but usually I sit to draw, doodle something, get frustrated and stop.

As soon as I got good enough to be able to doodle a pose quickly, I immediately stopped spending a long time on my drawings and instead started doing quick 30 min doodles that look barely good enough for me to be satisfied. It's fun to me, but don't fall into that trap, I'm stagnating because of this.
