How effective are art classes or teachers when compared to self-teaching?

When you read about masters, you learn that many of them had teachers. Frank Frazetta is a close example, his father enrolled him to an art school. I was thinking about this because people often complain about not improving, or being a permabeg for many months or even years. In their case, "just draw" doesn't work. To improve, you need to realize what kind of mistake you're making and learn how to fix that, but sometimes you can't really figure it out on your own.

>How effective are art classes or teachers when compared to self-teaching?
I improved more in one month than in 3 years.

That's mostly it. I have good eye and can spot my mistakes, but it's a lot smoother when someone who knows better can instantly point things out and know exactly what step you need next. You can probably make as much progress on your own, but having a mentor fast tracks your progress like crazy.

Yes you improve 10x faster from a good teacher
Don't skip on art school if you're from a first world and can afford one

ARt school was a waste for me. But then again I suck so what does that mean? I don't know.

Never go to school, when AI is more than enough to educate you. The only reason you go to art school, is that you want to meet other elites, and you want to meet and hang out with them to rub shoulders. Or you are buying resident in the said country you are studying in, that how the globalists works.

Don't learn from someone who can't draw hands.

I'm highly skeptical that art school does much of anything "concrete" - meaning teaches you "hard" skills. Art is not math, science, or programming, as much as many people want it to be. Teachers can teach you a certain style, a certain technique or approach, but you need only look at CalArts or Gobelins entrants' admission portfolios to realize the good ones were already going to be good no matter what, and the shitters were shitters. In art it's a lot more important to take the craft seriously on your own time, and to be able to problem-solve and think creatively.
What a teacher/class environment could do is motivate you to work harder and put you in an environment of your peers, in theory. But you still have to do the work at the end of the day, so if it was already easy to self-motivate, you're just going for the social aspect. I just don't think it's worth it to spend thousands for a social club personally, unless you're rich.

Actual art schools suck, because they try to apply school teaching to something that can't be taught that way. Learning art is something very personal, you can't create a strict curriculum to be followed by all students.
Moreover, you'll be stuck in a class with 20 other retards, who will either hold back your progress by being retarded and making the teacher take longer, or the teacher and talented students will pull ahead and leave you behind without having grasped things.
What you want to look for is a small scale studio or atelier type shit, where you'll have either a very small group of students, or straight up direct mentoring. THAT is what works, and is a thousand times cheaper than art school.

you go to art school to take advantage of the fact you're one of two heterosexual males in a class of 40 people with women being 30 of them
>>
>>7872090
>with women being 30 of them
10 believe are lesbian
10 are theythems
and the other 10 are probably crazy goblinas

It depends on the person. All the information is in the books (if you pick the right ones) but what books can't give you is accountability and self-discipline. Some people can supply that for themselves. Frank Cho was self-taught (he went to school for nursing). But some people need a teacher to say, "Do this assignment and bring it to me in a week." Also, I've learned a lot of people nowadays are too stupid or attention-deficient to actually read books. They say, "I'm a visual learner," and only look at the pictures. Well, if there's text in an art instruction book, it probably contains important information. Some of the books from the 1800s have lots of text, and there's really great insight in there, but you have to read.

only 3 lesbians in my class and 1 ftm
the rest are normal quirky art hoes
>>

Oh no, art school is more about reading philosophy, art history, curation, art therapy, art marketing, art theory and expressing your conceptual art. Those requires reading, AI is more than capable of showing you what to read.

If you’re not a 10/10 guy, women will be put off by men who are into art. You are intruding into a space that isn’t meant for you. Art classes function less like professional training and more like social spaces for young women, aka adult daycare.

Because women often rely on somebody else to make money for them, be it father or boyfriend, they are not career-driven and also they often tend to favour the saccharine stylized SFW art-styles, which almost never bring money. To become a good artist you gotta get autistic about studying realism

In my first week of art school I was APPROACHED by 4 different women and by the next week I slept with one of them

compare
>scores of artschool grads stuck as permabeg
>every online artist who incessantly brags about being self taught and stuck in permabeg
>online artists who watched youtube videos and maybe a book and are actually good
became somewhat obvious to me when i was ~17 and on art discords, equal in skill or better than every 22-24 yo art schooler i talked to

depends on your motivation and mental state
depends on the course and the teacher
depends on your classroom environment and peers
depends on what kind of information is available to you
depends what you even want to do
it all just depends

classes can cost money but are a good way to help you assess your skills even if the teacher is mediocre. just being around peers around your level to compare yourself to are good. i would say plan a path of self teaching for yourself first, and go into classes once you've exhausted that and don't feel satisfied with your development

Every good artist has taken an art class at some point. No exceptions. And most good artists you heard of have gone to art school.

Art school teaches you drawing, the right kind of school. It's just Westoids like you grew so complacent and degenerate that you throw a fit if you receive criticism, so the Western schools adapted to the money-paying class and turned into adult daycare. Plenty of East Slavic and Chinese schools pump-out decent artists
>>

This needs to be updated for 2026.

Much more effective when you have a good teacher. Nowadays there are many teachers that cant draw or paint anyway so theyre kinda useless.
>>
>>7872310
I remember checking that school's website a couple years back to try and find that year's showcased works. There was an entire room decorated with shitty gigantic papier mache vaginas and penises

Ok. So how the fuck do you actually improve and crawl out of /beg/?
>>
>>7872334
You are actually expected to go to art school as a /int/ or a high beg. They go through the basic stuff really fast

>>
>>7872493
You, the observer.
>>
Dude just learn to observe what you see. Read books and seek criticism. 99% of the time you yourself can find the improvements. For the rest of 1% you will have to rely on others. Good art will make you appreciate life. If you can consistently do that then you got it!

How do I get a girlfriend like that being ugly?

Literally EVERYTHING is better learned with a teacher than self-taught. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying or deluded.
>>
>>7872039
Art schools are only worth it if they're free like in europe and even then you have to do a lot of research to make sure you'll learn anything of value there, but I can attest even one good professor can make it worthwhile
On the other hand even in the best case scenarios you'll still probably have to deal with one or two shitty abstract subjects that you'll probably hate
For me the main advantage is having access to advanced traditional and digital faculties and drawing pretty much every single day often towards a bigger project
Once again, if you do your research and find a school that has even one guy teaching something you're interested then go for it, otherwise, pay for some course or join atelier
