What does unsold food mean?
Like is near the expiration date, or they must give food after an estimated amount of time?

After it expires, they are allowed to still sell it or have to give it away to a food bank, they aren't allowed to dispose of it, otherwise they get fined.
But mainly gypsys and other browns take advantage of it

after it expired probably, with modern packaging those dates don't mean anything once i found a solmon slice in my fridge that was expired for over a year i ate it and was fine afterwards

With a lot of food the packaging expires before the actual product. That's why salt and honey usually have an expiration date if they are packaged in plastic or something similar.
