Do you guys have a favorite Touhou artist? I feel like my favorites ones are the ones that explore Gensokyo and it’s characters.

For entirely different reasons it's these two.

This guy. Because his videos are just funny, but it really didn't have to be touhou.

And this guy. I'm not sure if this is translated anywhere but it's one of those hidden gems. I rarely see long stories like this outside of the official material itself or fan novels.

Well you posted him already. I used to like Chin but his current style is waaay too much 'greasy' looking. Still decent enough now and then. Diisuke and Amazon are also good, shame I don't see Hiroya too much often nowadays..

There are so many great 2hu artists that stopped doing it, or art altogether, or even perhaps they're dead
I think Chihiro is still my GOAT, but there are still good contenders that mostly unfortunately dropped off

Some of them became actual published authors, like totaku/Kashiki Takuto whose manga even got adapted to an animation - while not Bomber Grape or Tsukumizu in popularity, that's still a huge achievement

Some have had an artstyle change, sometimes related to switch to fully digital; Shou Hikawa's Aya is still definitive to me even though tle last one was drawn 5 years ago
(also a published author, did 9 volumes which isn't a bad score)

Action scenes by chado/Tohonifun are also very high on the scale, unfortunately it's also a case of Hololive takeover as the main interest

Honourable mention: carcharias, whose doujin got me into the Taoist squad (even it it takes Zounose-levels of liberties); charin, whom I conflated with Chihiro by mistake; Morino Hon for a wonderful Alice story, and Hashiya for giving me the biggest brainfuck a doujin has managed
Out of the still active ones shoutout to Ryuuichi, who I recognize is great at art and has some fun writing but I just cannot make myself like the style

I am so out of touch with drama that I don't even know who that is
>>
>>50607284
If you're out of touch then you should be familiar since it's a story from 12 years ago or about. To keep it relatively short: C*s was celebrated at the time 2hu artist with a unique sense of visual flair. One day, she suddenly jumped ship (heh) to Kancolle, leaving behind unfinished series and other artwork, and started pumping out bote doujins. Some time later the bote money spring dried up, so she tried to attend a Touhou event again. But, since she hadn't drawn anything Touhou in a long while, she went with an all-Kancolle line-up. To a Touhou-only event. Predictable backlash occurred.
Eventually she drew 2hu stuff again, but her style had deteriorated considerably from churning out bote trash for sales, and her series remain unfinished to this day.

oh okay, I thought it was about someone jumping ship which was so common there was little point in singling someone out - but having the balls to go to a Reitaisai with Kancolle would do it lmfao
oh well, at least the ending is obvious enough and there are others
>>

This has probably happened hundreds if not thousands of times, why do people care so much? Most artists only draw for money and attention, or to curry favor or clout with other people by drawing gift art. You can easily see what artists do this stuff, especially when they do trendy drawings or draw to try and get in with a specific group.
>>
>>
>>50607516
Yeah, they were doing what was most profitable for them. Many view art as little more than a way to get paid. I don't know how this isn't obvious to everyone. And yeah, artist worship is pretty damn bad, I don't personally understand that but it plays a huge part in this kind of drawma.
>>
>>50606288
I still want to buy all those old chihiro merch.
he had the most gorgeous style ever. I like when his 2hus can look eighter soft, or absolutely monstrous, like they can't maintain their human form.
people simply don't appreciate traditional media enough.
>>
>>50607569
>but it plays a huge part in this kind of drawma
Because it's a singularly stupid and brazenly greedy case. Did you read the post? Or do you believe all artists who jump ship are lazy and greedy to that degree?
>>
>>
>>50608537
What drama? It happened over a decade ago, the artist hasn't published anything relevant for over half that time. It's just an ancient (by internet standards) anecdote. Cool your jets. I mean, last I tried I couldn't even find the artist's social media, so where would I even begin trying to stir the drama?
>>
>>
>>50609006
I meant in general. Anytime in a thread someone would post a doujin page/ MMD gif/ whatever made by someone who doesn't make that content anymore, and get a reply along the lines of 'ew (artist)traitor...', no context added.
Granted it hasn't happened in a while, probably for the better.

Oh, those wish they'd fucked up as hard as Cis. Nah, it's just insipid shitposting. Cis's fall from grace was a genuine article. Immensely stupid, entirely preventable, fully fuelled by hubris. One of my favourite of such stories.

I don't have a singular favorite artist.
But I can say that Windart's Hatate doujin series has been one of my favorite.
Also Mirino's Suwako doujins were really nice.

I miss him too, I really liked how he would draw girls in an unconventionally attractive and sometimes very tomboyish way.

I absolutely adore BlackCat/Heran Hei Mao's artstyle, the dude behind the doujin Touhou Ace Showdown. I love the bold linework and the cartoonish yet gritty(?) artstyle that shines the best in the doujiin's fight scenes. The redesigns for the characters are really damn good too.
Some honorable mentions that I want to mention are Akimaki Yuu, the replacement artist for the Foul Detective Satori manga and Futa (Nabezoko) who has a surprisingly cute yet erotic artstyle.

I think about the way Blackcat draws Aya and Tenshi alot more than I really should. Akimaki Yuu's Flandre looks dangerous as hell but sometimes graceful at times. Futa's Rinnosuke is just really cute.

There's a lot of great artists, especially in the doujin manga scene.
Golden Pe Done, probably the ONLY author I've ever seen adapt a danmaku fight in a manga and do it justice. How he draws characters also fits Touhou very well, in the sense that it evokes a polished ZUN-ish rounded style.
Morino Hon, fashion 2hu. Probably consistently draws the best looking manga. Bonus that he still draws Touhou consistently today, too.
Akimaki Yuu. He's evolved a lot from his past works, CDS is arguably the best drawn manga official Touhou ever had.
Shimadoriru, just for the unique paneling and drawing colored manga alone deserves a special mention.
Warugaki, master of imitating artstyles of other artists. It's pretty funny to see 4 different character artstyles in one panel sometimes. His Kaiji x Touhou series is probably my favorite Touhou manga series of all time. Also still draws Touhou consistently.
Takatora, probably makes the most "beautiful" looking art of the bunch. Sadly just kinda disappeared.
Hitori de Dekirumon, makes pretty good art, but more of a shout out because the Ureter manga is probably the most I've ever laughed reading any manga ever.
Moyazou, great chibi art, and all in color. Another artist that still consistently makes Touhou stuff even today.
Imizu, draws incredibly impressive character styles and action in a more "realistic" and shaded manner. One of the most technically impressive artists of the lot.
Also a mention to Maikaze for possibly being the strongest autist Touhou has ever had. Musou Kakyou is fully animated by pretty much one guy, and its the best looking one out of all of them.
There's a lot more out there.
